THE jubelle four, They had no idea that in the 21st century they would have a passionate fan base in Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, I'd like to get everything about them, especially MacFadden, one of the greatest basses I've ever heard, plus he doesn't have a biography on the internet.

Connie Haines. When you look and listen you can see that this woman has a lot of style and rhythm. She was the first white person signed to Motown Records. She recorded a lot of original songs, some that were re-recorded by other Motown artists... Including Stevie Wonder. It was one of his biggest records. Google her!

I just found a bunch of old photos of her and a friend vacationing on eBay. I googled the name to see what would come up and here to find she’s quite a name! Now to read what you’re saying- I’m mind blown! Thank you for sharing that 😊

I was able to find a professional copy on VHS format video tape about 30-sum-odd years ago, so I know it's been available at times through the years. Amazon currently advertises a manufactured-on-demand disk - and the reviews seem to be uniformly good. Happy hunting! You won't be disappointed.

Yeah, yeah - I know the song lyric talks about The Union Pacific - but that's a Chicago and Northwestern streamliner!

This is a lot better in its original aspect ratio of 4:3 instead of this nonsense stretch! The train they're on is the streamlined City of Portland, which in 1950, traveled on the Chicago and North Western (the train pictured at the start of the clip) to Omaha, where Union Pacific power took over to Pocatello and beyond to Portland, Oregon.

Please do not stretch Academy format to 16:9, because it LOOKS LIKE SHIT. Whoever cam up with this technology needs to be chastised weekly. Otherwise nice clip. Stop stretching!

I'd like to imagine that in the age before computers this would have been far more entertaining than the rather dull bluring scenery.

Purely subjective remarks notwithstanding, it's quite possible that Dick Layn's band would have been allocated a Pullman Club-Lounge Car (pictured) and one or more additional Pullman Sleeping Cars to accommodate their group. In turn, these cars would have then been handled as part of a regular train's consist (eliminating, for example, the need for a special diner). If this lounge space was exclusively assigned to the musicians for the duration of their trip, there wouldn't have been a problem with rehearsal time, etc. In addition, it would have been up to the group whether or not they wanted passengers from other parts of the train to join them (or, perhaps, even have access to or through the special cars). If we are to presume this was simply one of the train's regular lounge cars (after all, this is a Hollywood production!), then it should be noted that: 1. A Union Pacific Streamliner of that era would have offered at least three separate lounge spaces (in addition to food service areas) within its consist; therefore, if a passenger took exception to the presence of professional musicians practicing their craft, there would have been plenty of other places for them to go and get away from "the annoying distraction of fools." 2. Some lounge cars were equipped with pianos - and it would have been up to the train's Conductor whether or not to allow the other musicians to pull out their instruments and play. In fact, as long as a clear passageway was maintained through the car's interior (and it was during daylight hours), I'd be fairly surprised if such permission was not granted! 3. Big Band music was still en vogue at this time in history, so I doubt many people would have complained about the free concert! Besides, spontaneous musical entertainment is often appreciated in such an environment. As recently as the autumn of 2015, I've been riding a U.S. passenger train where something similar has happened. [In that instance, two traveling companions pulled out their acoustic guitars and began serenading fellow passengers. And, yes, there were places for people to retreat who did not wish to hear the music!] Finally, the reality of long distance travel by train presumes a certain level of camaraderie will develop amongst passengers. For example, it is quite unusual for single travelers to be seated alone in an Amtrak diner. Rather, tables tend to be filled for the sake of efficient service which, in turn, becomes a good way for people to get to know one another!

I'd like to imagine that you'd find the scenery between the midwest and Sun Valley to be anything but dull! Oh, well. To each his own.

I would like to note, among other things, I currently work on a railroad dinning car. I would like to think a far more proper railroad experience than amtrak offers. Silver, white linen, crystal, and bow ties. With a menu, albeit limited do to a kitchen that has around 50 sqft of floor space to serve upwards of 100 passengers in multiple cars, that would be at home in the the 20th century limited for nearly $2! On our common route there are several landmarks that we've come up with along the way, a national cemetery, a particularly far leaning house we affectionately call The Slanty Shanty, an old farm the railroad built up considerably to lay track that caused the rail to dip one way and then the other, and even an old original construction log cabin with wood shingles for siding. Jokingly the Lafayette International Airport. Its not uncommon for us to get to know passengers as well as strangers themselves sitting across the table from one another. Route has plenty to see, but the majority is walls of trees, particularly in the summer when everything is green.

@@garlboydlatham4295 What I have is 1955, but... Dome-Observation-Lounge (sleeping car passengers only) Streamlined Sleeping Cars Reclining Seat Leg-Rest Coaches Dome Coach Cafe Lounge Dome Dining (club and a la carte) These are cars in through service both eastbound and westbound. CNW might have had other cars available between Chicago and Omaha, for example, the tap-cafe-lounge, parlor, coaches, and sleepers for overnight for passengers departing at Omaha.
