Former dispensational here who now believes in preterist amill. I'm glad you didn't try to convince anyone of a position as this is a hot button topic. I know its an oldie but I still wanted to comment. I grew up in a Pentecostal church and reading all the Left Behind books. When I heard about positions other than dispensationalism (ironically from Mike Winger who still believes in it), I researched tthe topic, ACTUALLY read the books, and came to the.conclusion that preterism is the correct answer. And by preterism I don't mean "hyper" or "full" but that Revelation was John's olivet discourse, the evidence it was written after 70 AD are faulty, and the implication is that the 1000 years are the indefinite period of time before Jesus returns to Earth to make all things right, until then we'll have times of strife and times of peace, but humanity and the church will still be here when He returns.

I’m stuck between Realized and Inaugurated eschatology. When I read Jesus’s prophecies in the gospels, and when I read Revelations and study Roman history, picture that it already happened or some parts need to be completed.. but as a kid, growing up in church I had futurist eschatology shoved on my face. There was no different view. When I talk to my mom about how I differ she looks at me as if I’m a heretic lol..

If you wish you can see a lot of Revelation being fulfilled in 70 AD. But not all of it, esp. the last three chapters. There is more to come. This world will not go on as it is forever. Remember what Paul said in Athens - “He has fixed a day when he will judge the world in righteousness by a man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.” Acts 17:31. It seems to me that some of what Jesus and Revelation are saying has to do with events leading up to and following that “fixed day.” I do not hold a dogmatic position on the last days and I’m open to hearing and learning much more but I can’t escape that conclusion.

This video was was published more than two years ago and mine is the first comment? Hmmmm. OK. Well, for those few who might like to actually study eschatology (instead of just adopting one or another of the various eschatological systems because your friends have), here's a suggestion: Try to find as much information as you can about the HISTORY of eschatological thought. Try to trace to its source the theological premise (or premises) of each of the eschatological systems currently extant. Try to determine the historical setting where/when these systems originated and try to determine what doctrines these systems were designed to oppose. Are there biblical principles that are being ignored by some or all of the people who promote these eschatological systems?

I really need some more information on eschatology because it is huge topic which i have always wanted to learn but i have never been to bible school. I grew up with the view that the end is yet to come, when i started studying i realized that its like the book of revelation has been fulfilled and when Christ comes all will rise again because God is not in the business of burning people in hell because he loves all and want that all should come to the knowledge of who they are in Christ and be mature sons of God. My view is that looking at the other planets, man will inhabit all other planets with the immortal body when Christ appears again but i just need more studies. Please if there is more information i will to have and also recommendations of books to study and also as a scholar your own point of view. Many thanks Sirs.

Raymopnd IRay, I’m electronically challenged but I often get notices that someone has commented on one of the threads on which I have commented. I’m sorry I didn’t get a notice that you had posted a request. My parents subscribed to an historicist eschatology. They taught me about it themselves but they didn’t have college degrees. They paid people who had college degrees to teach me about it as well. What neither my parents nor my college-educated teachers ever taught me was a) that there are other methods of interpretation, b) what some of those methods are, c) how those other methods originated (and where and when and why). When I became aware that some people’s eschatology differed significantly from that of my parents, I started trying to understand why. That was in the early 1970s. It was another ten years before I knew enough about that history to discuss it intelligently. Access to the Internet should allow you to study the history of at least some of the methods of Bible interpretation that have been used and allow you to study which methods of interpretation are the most popular today and why. There are some good reasons to not simply learn about one eschatological system without considering alternatives. One of those reasons is that many people have been taught from only one perspective and just assume that no Christians have ever used other methods of interpretation or developed alternative concepts. Sir Isaac Newton wrote: “The folly of interpreters has been to foretell times and things by this prophecy (Revelation), as if God designed to make them prophets. By this rashness they have not only exposed themselves, but brought the prophecy also into contempt. The design of God was much otherwise. He gave this and the prophecies of the Old Testament, not to gratify men’s curiosities by enabling them to foreknow things, but that after they were fulfilled they might be interpreted by the event, and his own providence, not the interpreters’, be then manifested thereby to the world. For the event of things predicted many ages before will then be a convincing argument that the world is governed by Providence.” In addition to (or maybe even before) studying the history of the various methods of interpretation, let me suggest that you study the prophecies of the Hebrew Bible (aka old testament), especially those that can be interpreted as pertaining to the first advent of Jesus. A person who understands how Christians have usually interpreted THOSE prophecies is, I think, in a better position to evaluate other methods of interpretation. If you spend some time pursuing the above suggestions and then decide you would like to continue the conversation, you may email me at r.metzger44@gmail.com

Hey Raymond IRay, I believe the above advice is sound, that being said I know it can be difficult to navigate personal study and sort out truth and what may be someones own views being represented as truth throughout the internet. I might refer you to some free biblical studies offered through the Blue Letter Bible Institute they have several course options on different things but all of them are taught by reputable professors that have in different Seminaries or Universities and have made their course studies free through Blue Letter Bible Institute. All of the courses can be completely done at your own pace on line and the classes are accessed either by reading or audio mp3 you can either register just to audit the class course or for grade in the class course the difference being if you simply audit the course they will not keep track of your test grades but if you register for grade they will keep track of your test grades and upon completing the course will be awarded in a certificate of that area of study and if you ever decide to enter a biblical institution for study at a later date your student records may be transferable and credit given at the discretion of the institution you wish to enter. I have completed 2 courses so far and I can not tell you how much Ive learned and how they have helped me the courses I took where Christology and The History and Authenticity of the Bible both taught by Dr. David Hocking. In my Christology we covered some of Eschatology at least enough for me to understand what it was what the beliefs of the different views presented were and enough scripture to give me a descent basis of where I stood on the issue. I wont go into that as I dont want to influence your beliefs in that way but think you will be able to come to your own logic conclusion for where you stand based on my class reference. The specific classes im talking about are found in the Christology course through Blue Letter Bible institute and are titled The second coming of Christ part 1 and The second coming of Christ part 2 if you are looking for video classes my teacher Dr. David Hocking has several videos on the internet but I must tell you that you do have to sit and listen to what he is saying at first he may seem somewhat boring but once you get into what he is teaching you will find him to be super smart and actually quite funny but in a dry sense. Here is a brief description on his credentials i copied from one of his ministry sights Educational Background Bachelor of Arts in Bible, Greek and Ancient History Master of Divinity in Biblical Studies & Systematic Theology Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Studies and Languages Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Studies Doctor of Laws (honorary) Ministry Background Became a Christian in 1947 Teaching the Bible for over 56 years Planted and pastored churches in Ohio and California Radio Bible Teacher since 1970 Yearly Tours to Israel & Bible Lands for over 45 years Taught College and Graduate School courses in Bible, Theology, and Biblical Languages Author of over 50 books plus many booklets and Biblical studies So that should give you a good start into your studies like the guy below i will leave you my email address if you would like to discuss anything further or if you would like some kind of reference to anything . amberjo30@gmail.com Best of luck!

Let’s remind ourselves that nobody knows when the world will end. Because Jesus Christ explicitly said that no one knows. Only God knows. Read Matthew 24:36.

About Options? "Now, brothers and sisters, I want you to remember the Good News I told you. You received that Good News message, and you continue to base your life on it. 2 That Good News, the message you heard from me, is God’s way to save you. But you must continue believing it. If you don’t, you believed for nothing" (1 Cor. 15:1-2). "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!" (Gal. 1:8) "For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge" (Romans 10:2). Enough said.
