🚆 Escaping the fog with stunning views over Lake Zürich (Cab Ride Switzerland | S24 Zug - Zürich)

It's been a while since we have been on this route. Welcome aboard the S24 service from Zug to Zürich! It connects Zug with Zürich Main Station and then continues further to Winterthur, where the line is split in two: One terminus is Thayngen, the other is Weinfelden. These parts of the route run only hourly, while everything between Zug and Winterthur runs half-hourly. It is also one of the very few S-Bahn Zurich lines that serve the main hall in Zurich and the only one that continues further from there.
It is a relatively short ride through beautiful nature, the disused station of Sihlbrugg, two old single-track tunnels and stunning views over Lake Zurich and the city of Zurich while slowly descending into the city. Enjoy the ride!
If you would like to see the rides from and to Thayngen, you can do that here:

    On this line I particularly like the bit between the two long tunnels through the closed station of Sihlbrugg, where the river runs through the valley. It's like a little lost world

    The final 10 seconds or so and drawing into the station. Sunlight streaming in on the right side. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing but that ending was positively cinematic. Thank you once again. Vacations for my imagination.

    I have been watching many of these videos and have a few questions 1) I see very few of what I would call single family homes. Most appear to be multi-family dwellings. Is this normal? 2) Where I live electric power is supplied to houses and buildings via overhead power lines strung on poles. I don't see any such power lines. Are the all underground? 3) High voltage power lines; I see occasionally power towers and tall poles with groups of 3 wires. I presume these are 3 phase power lines. But I also see towers with 2 lines or groups of 2 lines. Are these special lines to supply power for the railroad? 4) I see very few if any cell (mobile) phone towers. Are they hiddened or disguised in some way?

  • @simonpoole2499

    1 yes, though there are a fair number of single family houses if you look closely. 2 yes. 3 hmm the SBB has its own grid, but no idea of the details. 4 no, there are plenty in the video for example at 14:00 in Overrieden on the right.

    Single-family homes aren't hugely common in Mainland Europe since they tend to be more expensive than townhouses. Terraced housing (Is that the same as a "townhouse"? damn Americano terms), medium-density apartment blocks (aka "Duplexes" and upto 4-6 floors high), Maisonettes (flats on 2 floors), etc. Most electricity in Europe is supplied underground from the nearest step-down transformer after being fed from multiple high-voltage power lines via pylons from the nearest power plant; most of Europe runs on 3 phase power at 220v-250v, for example in the UK, we use single-phase 230v-250v dependent on the machinery plugged in at 3A, 5A, 13A fuses while in Mainland European countries such as Germany, they use 3-phase 230v electrical grid; also overhead power lines are mostly only used in rural-settings or extemely low-density areas i.e. those that designed like they were built in the USA or Canada. Not sure about the SBBCFFFFS' own electrical grid but it is most likely connected to the main national European grid at some point, all of the SBBCFFFFS is 100% electric locomotion even on cross-border services in Germany, France, Italy, Austria plus Liechtenstien (their line is owned by the Austrian ÖBB) It is common in Urban environments to have cellular towers attached to the top of tall buildings, most European cities are made up of low-height buildings so a small cellular tower on the roof of a tower block is common, also Switzerland is very hilly so I would suspect that cellular towers are most often placed atop mountains and hills which may be out of view of this video, I would not expect them to be hidden since Swiss telecom companies aren't operated like a latin American criminal organisation sending drugs to the USA.

  • @RTSRafnex2

    @RTSRafnex2

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@wclifton968gameplaystutorials The grid is definitely not connected. There are neutral sections between them. You really don't want that connection, even the SBB grid in Switzerland is divided into dozens of sections, all fed by different substations. Getting them all in sync would be a nightmare. You can see one of these sections at 27:38, the beginning is marked with a yellow "smiley face" sign.

    Switzerlands limited space doesn‘t allow it to build that many single family homes. E.g. the city of Zürich is planning to house 500‘000 people by 2040, so they are building higher and denser, because there isn‘t any undeveloped land. They are more common in rural regions though.
