Welcome aboard the Siemens Doppelstock-Triebzug, DTZ in short. It is a very hot summer day and the air conditioning is doing a great job keeping our heads cool. We are located in the depot of Winterthur and will soon shunt our train to the platform, where our passengers can board the train and set off on our journey. The S8 connects Winterthur, the second largest city in the canton, with Pfäffikon SZ, right at the shores of Lake Zurich. It is among the longest lines in the ZVV S-Bahn network and spans almost the entire canton of Zurich, from the northeast to the southeast and even leaves into the neighbouring canton Schwyz, which is what the SZ stands for. On our trip, we will cross the city centre of Zurich through the most recent part of the main station, the cross-city link. Sit back, get yourself a refreshing drink and enjoy the ride!

It was good to see the route through the tunnels via Enge. It has been a while. For a few seconds at the start I thought you were being routed through the yard at Winterthur. 😀 That was an enjoyable hour.

I really love your videos! Watching them has made me want to visit 🇨🇭. While nature scenery is beautiful to look at (especially the Alps), my personal favorite is urban settings from a cab view. I'm from Los Angeles so I definitely understand adjusting to hot days, this summer has been feeling especially warm! Drinking chilled water from a temperature-controlled bottle, and taking advantage of shade when you see it (as well as a UV Ray-blocking umbrella) helps a lot more than you may think. It's the little things! ☀💛

I was in Zürich last week (19-25 Aug) it was super hot and warm btw :( I had a Swiss railway pass so i rode a lot of trains in east and central Switzerland. One of my rides was this S8 from HB to Horgen. Such a nice place along the waterfront. That RABe 514 was really smooth and comfortable ride 👍

I think this is the first trip I've seen going south from Zurich over the old line to Thalwil avoiding the great long tunnel in daytime. A very pretty ride right down to Rapperswil along the shore of the lake

Why names of Swiss villages end up in -ikon ?
For some reason this video is stuttering. In my case on both phone and TV. EDIT: It's the framerate. It looks like it's switching between 60 and 30 FPS.

I do agree there are slight stutters from time to time. The only thing I can imagine what happened is that my camera didn't like the really hot temperatures and direct sunlight for so long. It does have its effects on the hardware.

@@RailwayEmotions Yes, that would explain it. Phones have the same fail safe - if the camera gets too hot, it will lower the quality. One thing I can suggest that might help is to cover the body of the camera by something white.
