To all of you bashing Clapton. He has said that he feels it is his life's work to keep the blues alive in honor of those who came before. Which means men of color. They started it and people like Elvis heard them and they were hooked. Clapton does not have a prejudice bone in his body he wrote songs with Robert Cray and has worked with BB, Buddy and many more including Tracy Chapman. He has walked through the fires of hell and sold most all of his precious guitars to help fund the rehab he opened to save people who are fighting a fight he himself fought and won, He is a man of character and humbled in the presence of greatness. I have never seen him act like he was superior to anyone.

Gradgiated HS in '72. Brotherhood of all mankind. Clapton WAS GOD. Jimmy was immortal. The Delta was being Sainted. Followed by other Spirits that have been more than of this world. Some not here long. None long enough... Respect, Love, Gratitude to every single one of them. They each introduced us to an energy force we would never have known. To have lived and worshipped during their reign helped to define us and our universe. (Just sorry to hear about poor Pluto, who I guess never really was so...well, he's still kissin' the sky. --- I can see he had his fun.) Always remember and never forget... Can I get a witness...Trade all my tomorrows... God damn the Pusher Man. Dazed and Confused since 18, and I don't know what I want....What a A long strange trip its been... ((The foregoing was edited, for your entertainment. Just in case you didn't notice.)) Try try try to understand. Now go listen to some early Kenny Rogers and see what edition your condition could be in. If u'r still readin' give me a thumbs up, or down. Got to go round. Willy D. Lots of folks here especially my age who grew up with the "British Invasion" music don't realize THAT music was inspired by black musicians in the US. The Beatles, DC5, the Stones... it was all R&B and covered by those Brit bands. So hats off to ALL musicians who honor the roots.

If you play music you owe it to music to play whatever you play to the best of your ability. As for being a technical musician Eric Clapton has no superiors and almost as few equals. No musician has ever been more lyrical than Stevie Ray Vaugn. His instrument speaks to people. Playing a guitar is not what Stevie Ray does....its what he is. He only had problems when he would have a lapse of memory and forget the music. If you play music you may not be Stevie or Eric but you still owe it to music to play it your best. Talk about a peacemaker....music is a universal language. I can play with a trumpet player from Brasil. I can play with a man in Uganda playing on a thirty year old horn...and a Count in Europe on the finest instrument money can buy none of us may converse with each other....until we open the music then we can say things that we have always wanted to say.

Have you ever listened to “Life By The Drop?” One of my favorite songs. I used to sing a harmony with it... it’s the most lovely song from a brother to a brother. I get replies almost daily about my comments about Stevie Ray Vaughan. That’s never happened. It’s a testament to how important he was and is.

@marie s Except I believe Stevie Ray Vaughn wasn't at that live concert. These were most of the guys that played with Stevie on his final tour, the night before his helicopter crashed into that mountain, killing him. All the video footage of Stevie Ray? Was taken from his appearance on Austin City Limits. This was a tribute video, so it's obvious that Stevie Ray wasn't actually on that stage playing with all those blues legends. If you notice? He's never on the stage at the same time as everyone else, interacting with them. He had tragically already died by this point.

I was BLESSED to have seen STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN in Chapel Hill NC on April 17th 1988 at MEMORIAL HALL it only held a couple of thousand people. Right as Stevie Ray took the stage and started to play LOVE STRUCK BABY. A transformer blew out and there was NO POWER for a hour. By the time Stevie Ray got back on stage which was only Three Feet off the ground, alot of people had gone. Stevie Ray said, "FOR THOSE WHO STUCK AROUND WHY DON'T I PLAY A SPECIAL SHOW FOR YOU!" I was up front standing in front his microphone STEVIE RAY was sweating on me and I was able to put my hand on his SRV GUITAR! 👏 I'M TELLING YOU HE PLAYED (4 1/2 HRS) VOODOO CHILD WITH HIS TEETH AND BEHIND HIS HEAD! BY THE TIME STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN FINISHED PLAYING. HE SAID, "I BELIEVE I'VE PLAYED EVERYTHING I KNOW" /LAUGHING/ HE THANK THOSE FOR STICKING, TELL Y'ALL FRIEND'S WHAT THEY MISSED. ADIOS AMIGOS! I'VE SEEN LED ZEPPELIN AND HUNDREDS OF CONCERTS BUT I'LL NEVER EVER FORGET SEEING STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN! I LOVE HIM AND MISS HIM SO MUCH! R. I. P. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN 👏🙏⭐ ENOUGH SAID!!! ✌️

Stevie was FLAWLESS!!! He was the baddest cat to ever pick up a guitar. I've never had a musician that brought me to tears when I heard their music. Stevie had a gift that was unmatched. I truly believe that he didn't realize just how good he was. It was as if he was plugged into another universe. Loosing him was the single greatest tragedy the music world ever experienced. To say he was a legend didn't even begin to tell the truth of his genius!!! Those around him in this video knew what they were witnessing. He was an Angel sent from heaven. God I miss him so much!!!!!

IMHO SRV, Clapton and Buddy Guy played on the same level this time, the result was an epic ensemble. SRV was great, like Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman. All these greats were inspired by EC, perhaps even more than by B.B. King and Buddy Guy. And all these have always recognized how crucial Clapton has been for Blues and Rock history. Thanks for sharing this audio, it would be nice to see the real video.

Like I said I was patrolling the barracks on fire watch, as I passed by the Drrill sergeants quarters , I could hear Stevie Ray Vaughan music . Now let me tell you this DI was to be feared by God, a big man 6 ft + pushing 300 not an ounce of fat look like a bodybuilder, he noticed we walked by and said come here scumbag . He said you ever heard anything like this , I said yes drill sergeant thats SRV . When he told me what happened I tried hard to man up ,but I couldn't hold it back . He grabbed me by the shoulders, looked down and said I'm right there with you brother . From that day forward he never fucked with me again and never looked in my direction . When I completed basic 3 weeks later,, he took me to a blues bar in el paso they were still celebrating SRV with a live band playing his music . Best and worst moment of my life

Wish I could have been at this concert. So much talent on that stage and one gone forever now. Appreciate people while they're here, we never know when we're going to lose someone.

No pretence. No theatrics. No holding back. Every time he performed, SRV became a channeling conduit for the blues.
