Ercoupe Trip with Dad to Boonville, CA

A nice trip in the Ercoupe to Boonville with Dad. We depart Nevada County in the morning, fly over U-2's and T-38's at Beale, past the Sutter Buttes and over the Coastal Range to the picturesque town of Boonville in the Anderson Valley. A fuel stop at Colusa County airport on the way home. #Ercoupe #Boonville

One of my favorite little aircrafts it's a bubble canopy like a P-51 Mustang in an open cockpit like a Stearman it has the best of many worlds wrapped up all in one

Ahh, I noticed the Champ 7FC after your arrival @24:55. My dad and I restored and flew one back in the late 60's, early 70's. We hangared at KOAK. I did not realize how fortunate I was.

I had one of these, a 415c 1947 I think. I restored it and sold it before it flew. I polished it like this one however I painted some red accents and it had cloth wings. C85 and auto-fuel STC, rear spar AD, and no corrosion, I was worried about spar intergranular corrosion but none was found... This one in the video is beautiful, I really like the metal wing panels

I enjoy watching videos of new pilots enjoying their airplanes and exploring the their new found freedom in flying. From time to time I pass on friendly suggestions when I notice something that can be improved. I'm a retired pilot with a major airline and a flight instructor since 1969. I've noticed in almost all of your videos that with few exceptions you always touchdown to the left of centerline. This is a common issue with leisure pilots. With rare exceptions you should always touchdown on the centerline. This is a skill that will be useful down the road. It will also develop the habit pattern of intolerance to error in your flying - another important skill. Keep up the good work and enjoy your flying.

Sky King, thank you for the comment. I agree, my 'non centerline' is embarrassing to me, and I will fix it. My poor instructor, who kept on at me about it must be very upset! The next time I do an Oshkosh adventure, I hope you will be satisfied that I have fixed that problem.

I was startled to recognize Colusa County airport before you even said it in the video... I did my very first solo cross country flight there in 1978! There was absolutely nothing there but a gas pump and a small shack then...

There used to be a guy in Healdsburg that had Ercoupe’s. He had a hangar over at the little airport off Lipton Springs Road. There were extra wings, engines and miscellaneous stuff in that hangar. He was a large frame guy but a seasoned pilot. Last time I was in that hangar was about 1995?+/- Can’t remember his name..

I love the intro, especially with your dad. very sweet and charming. Doing the intro from the NC Airport Terminal should be the way forward. Consider ending each journey with footage of you walking back into the terminal. My instincts hue to familiarity and structure that creates comfort, but your soft ending works just as well. Oh, and the beard kinda freaked me out!

What is the useful Load of your Ercoupe ? I had thought that with 2 passengers that you couldn't carry a full fuel load. I might or must be mistake. ErCoupes are awesome little planes and your version is one the best I have ever seen.

Your bird is the appitemy of simple and easy flying. My health isn't all that good but if it were, I would love to fly such a machine as yours. Just don't let the purists talk you in to an aircraft, that would not be nearly as enjoyable. You are a lucky man.

If it would be ok for me to ask if you would give us a tour of your cockpit? I am about to start groundschool and after watching every video I have had the chance to watch your aircraft or various versions of the Ercoupe can be flown without having to use peddles to fly. I have had shattered bout of my ankles. I do believe that the Ercoupe can be operated by using the Yoke only. Thank you for your time.

  • @JamesGood

I can do a cockpit tour, yes. And yes, many Ercoupe's do not have rudder pedals. There is a mechanical mixer under the baggage compartment which mixes in the right amount of rudder when you turn the yoke. I have a view of that here kzread.info/dash/bejne/g3ZolMaxfZq-nrA.html

Hello Bradley. Well good luck in your Ercoupe adventure. Polished is not bad for me. I haven't polished mine in months, which you can get away with, IF you keep it in a nice dry hangar. I think it would be a LOT of work if you didn't have a hangar.

Excuse my ignorance but it seems that you were tense, ever monitoring every single detail of your flight. The scenery is beautiful but you never look and I realize the extreme need for safety in the air but it seems to me that you were so tense. Is that a common trait for all small aircraft pilots?

  • @JamesGood

    @JamesGood

    Жыл бұрын

I reviewed this video again, I didn't think I was super tense! Don't forget it's heavily edited as well, which removes some context. I don't include most of the quiet 'nothing happening' parts. It's actually very relaxing for me to fly, most of the time. You certainly have to pay attention, there are things that will kill you, literally.
