Lyrics:
I try to discover
A little something to make me sweeter
Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
Why you're making me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
And if I should falter
Would you open your arms out to me?
We can make love not war
And live at peace with our hearts
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
What religion or reason
Could drive a man to forsake his lover?
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Don't you tell me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
I'm so in love with you
I'll be forever blue
That you give me no reason
You know you make me work so hard
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
That you give me no
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me
Soul, I hear you calling
Oh baby please give a little respect to me

Erasure needs more respect! They are just as important and influential as Depeche Mode, New Order, and Pet Shop Boys. Vince Clarke, especially, needs to be recognized with a special lifetime achievement award for all that he's done for synthpop music and being the founder of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and Erasure.

may i share the feeling growing up to this song in the 80´s it elevates

Vince Clarke doesn't get enough credit for his contributions to being vitally instrumental to the monumental breakthrough of 3 different major music acts in the '80s with Depeche Mode, Yazoo and Erasure. He brings success wherever he goes.

Erasure are still together and selling out concepts 34 years later! A great British group to be proud of. This song and Erasure as a band always reminds me of my school time friend, Scott Wilks. He was in a wheelchair and we saw their concert in Milton Keynes and it allowed me to be closer than the performance than I should have been allowed to be. For this I will forever be thankful of my friend who I lost in 2016. Thinking of you Scott.

Andy Bell's voice is perfect to express the emotion in Vince Clarke's wonderful tunes.

We can make love not war And live at peace with our hearts I'm so in love with you I'll be forever blue What religion or reason Could drive a man to forsake his lover? Don't you tell me no Don't you tell me no Don't you tell me no Don't you tell me no Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me I'm so in love with you I'll be forever blue That you gimme no reason You know you make-a-me work so hard That you gimme no That you gimme no That you gimme no That you gimme no Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby, please, give a little respect to me Thank you

I went on Holiday in June 2023 to a well known party town in Spain. Throughout the 2 weeks there we saw loads of tribute acts/singers covering well known songs and some doing a terrific job. One afternoon we went to a packed bar and the lady starting singing this song and practically the packed bar sang along to most of the song. I got goosebumps. It was amazing. So many people male and female, young and old. Blew my mind and when I think about it now it makes me smile as I've seen loads of people sing live before but I've never seen so many people sing along to the song all the way through.
