    Did you have the cut the fabric at an angle do avoid “moire” of the image? Also, you have been reviewing 4K projectors - how well do they look on the screen? Do you get any bleed through the fabric. I’m expecting you to say the pictures is absolutely perfecto - based on the video’s I’ve watched of yours. Thanks in advance for the info and videos are always done very well.

  • @Youthman

    @Youthman

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Terry, I’m not sure if I had to but that’s what Seymour recommended so yes, I angled the fabric to prevent the possibility of moire. I love the actual quality and durability (thickness) of the fabric. I’m definitely very pleased with it. With an AT Screen some light does pass through the fabric but I’m not sure how much, if any, loss in brightness as a result. Seymour could likely give you statistics on that. When we were designing the cabinet, I was initially concerned that the Fabric would SAG when the screen was lifted but I will later found out during installation at the fabric really doesn’t stretch because it’s a weave. This worked out extremely well for my application. The screen does not sag even though it’s 12 foot across

  • @Youthman

    @Youthman

    5 жыл бұрын

    It’s meant for a home theater application but I don’t see why it would prevent it from being an out door projector as well. It just depends on how much ambient light you have outside. If you have a lot of street lights near your home the more washed out the image will be but that’s with pretty much any projector

    Thanks Terry. I believe I paid around $360 for my fabric. It’s a certain height and they price it per foot in length. Best thing is to call and give them the dimensions and they can help you calculate how many feet you will need. I bought extra length so I could angle it to prevent moire.

    I have personally owned two Epson projectors and have been extremely pleased with each one. Zero complaints. My current one is the last generation 5030UB and it looks spectacular. My take on your two options is to go with the Epson. I do not care for DLP technology in projectors. I am sensitive to the rainbow effect that DLP can cause, and DLP typically has more screen door effect than a LCD system like the Epson has. The picture on the Epson is phenomenal. BUT..... Both systems have "FAKE 4K" and I don't care for it. here's the fact. both are 1080P projectors and are using trickery to call themselves 4K. If the panel is not truly native 4K then I wouldn't bother. I think that if you cannot afford a true 4K projector, which start at around $5K, then you should either buy the last gen true 1080P model, 5030UB, or wait a couple years for the price to drop on the true 4K systems. A well done 1080P is still an amazing picture, and there is little to no 4K content even yet to bother with the format. I would not be an early adopter in this instance. you can save $500-$1000 on the projector alone if you stick with 1080, not to mention not upgrading all of your source boxes, disks, and even the damn HDMI cables.

    My Panasonic AE8000u has been great but keep in mind it is 6year old technology. I realize the 5040 is Faux 4K but I’m curious how much technology has changed in projectors over the past 6 years. I have always owned $2500 - $3000 projectors so paying $5000 or more isn’t on my radar.

  • @dlloyd6300

    @dlloyd6300

    I'm with you on that, $5K is just still too rich for my blood. It's very encouraging that true 4K projectors have essentially dropped from around $12K to $5K within the last 18-24 months. That should put one in my price range within the next year or 2. Your panasonic and my first Epson home cinema 8100 were the two titans of their time and were great value projectors. They still both hold up to this day. I'd be interested in a A/B comparison between that and the new one, but I worry about how much of a factor the old bulb vs the new unit would be a factor as opposed to the true image capability itself. I'd also REALLY be interested in an A/B of my newish 5030UB vs the 5040UB. Keep up the great video's and quality content!!!!

    I reached out to several projector manufacturers about reviewing their 4K projectors and Epson was the first to respond. I gave them the specs of my Panasonic AE8000u and said I was I was looking to upgrade to a 4K projector. They responded with “Given the current Panasonic projector you own, I do think that an Epson 5040UB would be a good fit.” I would like to check out JVC as well due to their incredible black levels. They are in the > $3000 price point. Looking forward to seeing how the 5040 compares to my Panasonic.

    Youthman Very good video and info...as usual. Love your take on aspect ratios. Being the crazy football fan that I am and we are heading into pad popping time, I'm curious to know how a projector and screen does with NFL football. I imagine the games are 1080 p at 16:9...and watching MNF has to be awesome. Any thoughts...?

    Thanks Oldskool. My friend in Alabama has an Epson Projector and his family watches as much college football as they do movies so a 16:9 screen is perfect for his setup. He built electric masking using the motor from an electric screen to hide the top and bottom grey bars. I’ll post links to his setup below.

    Maby you will find some time for the promised review of this projector . I have managed to see this one in a showroom (it was a light controlled room) and it has very nice contrast and good black levels.

    Youthman 3D is the bomb. Does it mess with eyes or make you nauseated?

    No it doesn’t mess with me, I just never liked watching film in 3D. Part of the problem may lie in the fact that it’s not comfortable wearing 3D glasses over my eyeglasses.
