Easy out should work, depending on why it broke. It wasn’t seized as in rusted in. There are a couple of types of easy outs, one type has left handed drills of the correct size in the kit. Run a correct tap in before putting the new bolt in to clean the thread out, a good practice every everywhere especially on old stuff. Make sure the bolt didn’t bottom out. Drill it when the cover is on, keep all that diff destroying swarf out. You are not the only one who has an oh shit moment like that. Remember if the thread is buggered re-coils work a treat every time. Another good Australian invention that were known as heli-coils. Jeff

Thanks Jeff, Yeah the book said 41 NM for the cover bolts which seemed to be pushing the friendship, the two top bolts have spaces on them as they hold the brake line on top, so not sure if they were meant to be torqued differently due to that. They are the same bolt but longer so i imagine it should be the same. Must of just been weak.

7 years, that takes the pressure off a little! It's extremely time consuming, yes I did that method getting it off, it worked pretty good! Thanks mate

Hi good to see you getting back into it. I'll be surprised if you don't stick with the 3,36 diff ratio. It will have more chance of holding together then a 3.08 with the power you will be putting through it, and it will give you the best of both worlds. more power down low and good highway cruising, pending on your cam you could be chugging a little at 100km with a 3.08.

Yeah I reckon your right, it did rev a bit on hwy but I won't be driving it nearly as much so I can put up with it for the benefits it would have at lower acceleration speeds.

How good is the wet test mate hey ! - it really does forecast what the top coat finish is gonna look like - gives you confidence that you’ve spotted every blemish possible before laying down the duco - only I think on your next build you’ll employ it a lot more during the previous layers so save going over your work again - ultimately you want to epoxy the metal after you’ve got it as straight as possible with the hammers/ dollies/ slappper - wet test - body filler - guide coat / wet test , high build -wet test , finishing putty / polyester - wet test again and then sealer ( thinned epoxy ) - duco . Nice even layers to reduce the risk of shrink back or delamination and the like . Keep em comin man !

Yeah the wet test really opened my eyes to how much work still needed to be done on th passenger side! so glad i caught it though, now i know it's spot on and won't show in paint. cheers

Stack the Timber up where the ride on mower is and parked, the ride on is easily moved if it’s in the way. 1/2 the width of the stairs is the easiest and quickest option, just prop stairs in the middle of the finished width, cut to width, remove the unwanted pieces and slip the stringer ( side rail of the stairs )back in place…job done.

  • @BarnesysBuilds

Yeah I reckon your right, any recommendations on cutting the stairs straight?

  • @Oddone64

Easiest would be a circular saw along the treads then a reciprocating saw ( a powered handsaw ) up the risers and in the tight spots. Screw a length of timber along the underside of the stringer up against the bottom of the treads and risers intersection this’ll help locate them easier when putting the stringer back in place.

Forgot to add. Use a string line stretched from the top to the bottom, mark the line on each tread and square across the treads then up the risers and cut slowly to maintain an accurate cut.

Welcome back mate, with your broken bolts if easy outs don’t work weld a nut on the end of the broken bolt, the heat from the weld will help then you can get a spanner onto the nut and the broken bolt will come out 👍🏽 keep up the good work mate

Thanks Snowy, I have been watching a few vids, I will try and easy out, was wondering if the welder will ruin the gasket but I guess it won't if your putting it straight on the bolt. Thanks mate

@@BarnesysBuilds Algood mate and yea they are the better option, welding a nut on would require pulling the cover plate off again so it would bugger the gasket because you’ve glued it, anyway good luck with it mate 👍🏽
