I just found your videos and love watching and knitting while you share your projects and knitting experiences. Your ranunculus is beautiful. The good thing about knitting is it’s instant gratification no matter how much or little progress you make. Happy 50th episode. Your first podcast was on my 60th birthday. I would love to spend the day with my mother again. She was the rock in our family and the one who taught me many things, but among those things at the age of 8 , was to knit and crochet. I’m just now getting back to knitting socks since it has been difficult to knit more complicated things since having lengthy rounds of chemo last year. Like your ranunculus everyday the progress moves forward and I’m one of the lucky ones that survived and my chemo brain will get back to normal soon. I now have some binge watching and knitting to do and can’t wait to get back to color work again. Be safe and well and thank you for the wonderful podcasts. 🌞🧶🧶🧶

I'm so happy that your mom is in a good place. If I am doing one at a time socks, I use the Finchley Method for grafting the toes. No "rabbit ears". 😄 If I could spend a day with someone, it would probably be my MIL. My parents were both very quiet, not talking much about growing up through such hard times, and my mother was all business anyway, not much chitchat at the best of times. My MIL was like a second mother to me. I would have loved to spend more one on one with her, she had so much to share and give. I still make her bean salad, and every Christmas I make her mini pecan tarts in the tart pans that she gave me one Christmas, after I told her how I loved her mini tarts. 💗 Congratulations on 50 episodes! I love every one! You inspire, its always so good to get a notification that your latest podcast is up!

Congratulations on your fifty episodes! Yhey have been a joy to watch. As soon as you started speaking about the question about spending the day with someone my maternal grandmother sprang into my mind. She passed away just before I wasborn, but everyone in the family always says that I resemble her inmany of the ways I think and do things. Since it is difficult to really “look” at oneself, I’d love to spend time with someone who many in my family say I resemble. Loved all your socks! That seems to be the only knitting projects I can wrap my head around these days. It has been a difficult June and first half of July. I’ve knit myself through these times with beautiful socks that are all being given to some wonderful people inmy life. Salam wa sa’aadah

Hi Dear Selma ! SOOOOO late to this 50th visit - yet... another terrific one. Selma, you are just a delight . GORGEOUS knitting - your Elton will be YUMMY ! Listening to you recall your childhood Jazz fond memories - (and the greats at that ) - reminds me of my Mothers love of Sarah Vaughn ' Poor Butterfly ' , heard that song so many times . For me , no competition , Jonas Kaufmann . He is darling, smart, kind, and the most GLORIOUS tenor voice. Impressively, still reigns strong in the Opera World at age 50 today ! He relishes a SUPERB cup of Espresso and is quite an accomplished chef as a hobby. To spend the day with him would be Heaven - he has to sing fo me though. Selma - I love your podcasts . So glad that you’re getting your mom settled and hopefully a reduced stress level for you - you are a terrific daughter. Really interested to hear about what it’s like working with the Lemieux yarn - it looks like it might be like the Briggs and Little yarn - rustic and not springy (hard on the hands to work on). Super interesting job - thank you for explaining what you do. I think your feelings about travel and the pandemic are shared - I can certainly relate. To answer your question - I would spend it with my mom - she died 5 years ago and since she’s been gone I’ve thought of so many things I wished I had asked her and now I’ll never know.

You were most unlucky with your King Cole Summer Sox yarn! I bought two balls, one the same colour as yours, and haven't had any knots at all. Out of curiosity I also picked up a ball of Berroco's Comfort Sock, which is a mix of super fine nylon and super fine acrylic. It knits like a charm; I'll be curious to see how it wears during the summer. Not expecting much breathability but you never know. Congrats on the 50th episode!

I knit two pairs of Regia TuttiFrutti in the Strawberry color way last year. They have worn really well and I’ve just tossed them in the washer and then they look all new again. Now I’ve made my first pair of shorties in the same color way that you have used now. And I’m on my second pair. I like the idea of using less stitches around the ankle, because the pairs that I knit last year I did in 64 stitches and they are slightly floppy around the ankles. Now I’ve realized that 60 stitches suits me better, so we’ll see how these wears. Otherwise I will need to find a new color way for next year!!

My grandmother on my dads side I would love to garden with again. My grandmother and grandfather taught me all about gardening from the time I could hold an old tablespoon and dig in the soil with her. We all would spend hours every summer gardening and watering during the day. In the evening we would sit outside, enjoy the scents and gaze at the gardens! I think about her, I don’t know how to find her. Women take their husband’s name and then we are lost to the old times. I have looked on social media tried school reunion lists . What a delight that might be

Wow! You have been very productive over the past 7 weeks! Beautiful socks with such a variety of colours, styles and content. That cardigan with the cables and bobbles down the sleeves is gorgeous. I love the colour and the colour of your latest Ranunculus too. I am glad your mother is feeling better and hope she enjoys her new home. I loved the pictures of the tulips. It reminded me of renting bikes with my youngest daughter to ride along the canal and visit the tulip festival a few years ago- a fun outing and spectacular floral display.

You mentioned AlleyCat Yarns so I checked it out. For a long time I have struggled with which yarn is good for which project. I found a sample group offered so I could look and feel. To my surprise she also has suggestions on what each one is good for. Then she sent a small gift that made me smile and feel good. I need to find a pattern and order some wool. Mohair would be a nice offer also. Thanks again for the great information.

went to the sight you mentioned and purchased some yarn as you really cannot beat the cost/quality of it in the large quantities. I hope they continue with the shipping discount past July 21st as the shipping costs are just outrageous.

I was very happy to see a new video from you. I am glad to hear that your mother is doing better and settled into her new place. I recently graduated out of a brace on my right wrist and am knitting a Rock It tee to help me continue my regard and improve my flexibility. I am enjoying it as it is a fairly straight forward pattern. I went through some of your old videos to get some inspiration so I also bought the Ranunculus pattern and hope to buy that yarn soon. I notice that Kay has not posted anything lately. Do you know if she is okay? I know she had cancer treatment a couple of years ago so her absence has me worried. Thank you for the continued knitting motivation!

I thoroughly enjoyed your 50th podcast! Congratulations! I would love to spend a day with my maternal grandma, "Grandma Mimi," who died when I was five. I have loving memories of her and cherish being "Mimi" to our 6-year-old grandson. My grandma emigrated from Germany to marry and become immediate mother to three daughters after their mom passed away. Then my mom was born, becoming the fourth daughter. She was "Mimi" to our sons, and I miss her so much. Stripes: I have recently finished making some stash striped socks and employed this method for jogless stripes that didn't involve moving the first stitch. Knit color A to the end of the round; slip the last st to the left needle and add the new color B by making a YO. Then replace the slipped stitch to the right needle and begin knitting with color B. When you reach the end of this round, knit the YO and the slipped st of color A together. You have to do a bit of gentle tugging to make the stripes be straight across, but it really does work! I learned this from Roxanne Richardson's podcast and am quite happy with it. Rambling on: a book I highly recommend is the audible version of "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. She is a Native American author who narrates and is so incredible poetic in her prose. I love love love this book! It's full of gentle and important wisdom.

I love your podcast, and I am so glad to have stumbled upon it. I hope that your mother continues to thrive in her new residence. Your question about who I would like to meet sat with me for a bit. I decided that I would like to meet my mother (again). While I grew up knowing her, and there were struggles, I don’t feel that I got to know her well. She died when I was 34, and I always felt that we were just beginning to know each other as women. I would love for her to see and, hopefully, be proud of the woman that she raised and nurtured. So, thank you to the listener for asking that question and to you for asking us. Looking forward to the next podcast. I am falling into the Ranunculus rabbit hole, especially using your cast on modification, as I am not a fan of the tubular cast on. Cheers! Dee

Ah .! This episode was one of my favorite because I really enjoyed knowing you better with these questions that you answered ! Merci beaucoup!👋💕🍀🌈

I understand about the situation with your mom as I've just been through the same with my mom- 3 months in hospital (rehab, PT, OT, etc), luckily she is able to return home but I'm in a caregiver role for awhile as she continues to recover. I couldn't knit at first as I was so stressed and busy, but within the last month I've started back up and enjoying the stress relief of it! I even made my first pair of socks! I enjoy your podcast- thank you!
