Episode 50 Much Ado About Nothing

Episode 50 Much Ado About Nothing - The Stratford upon Avon Canal part two
The southern section of the Stratford upon Avon Canal was built on the cheap, and si it becomes rather cranky. In this episode Andrew takes narrowboat Reverie from the wonderful Kingswood Junction to Bancroft Basin in Stratford upon Avon. Along the way we cruise over some weird and wonderful aqueducts, see what Wagan The Thane did for Wootton Wawen, thread nb Reverie through the thinnest of bridges, and take a tour of historic Stratford upon Avon.

I just cannot get over the quality of your photography, research and narration. It is shear joy to watch . . . more even, take-in your videos. Living vicariously through them is shear joy. I can't wait to retire in three years and hopefully live at least part time in England on a Narrowboat. Thank you so very much Andrew for sharing your time, talents and British Canal beauty with the rest of the world; I am most appreciative. May God bless you and yours, and cheers from Avondale, Arizona.

Many thanks Michael, so pleased you've enjoyed my efforts. Maybe one day we'll cross paths on the cut. I believe there is a company which does short-term leases on boats, so you could hire it for several months.

Even by your standards Andrew, this video was especially notable! Quality and Quantity rarely share the same space, particularly in videos, but you've done it again with this one. Thank You for the trouble and time you put into your productions. Stay Safe!!

Thanks Andrew lovely to see Stratford again, the last time I saw it was 17 years ago when I took my son then 16yrs over to see his Grandmother who was in hospital and it was pouring with rain all day the day we went with friends! It didn't stop Nic, my son though with his movie camera he had a field day with all the old buildings.

Hi Alison, I loved the buildings and the sculpture, pity I couldn't go to see a play. It was incredibly busy though, but mainly because it was a sunny bank holiday (yes, strange but true), and covid restrictions had been relaxed.

Lovely imagery…. A lot busier than when we were last there. We had to ask Japanese tourists to get off our boat more than once, I think they thought the boats ( and access to them) were part of the experience.

Haha yeah the Japanese and Chinese seem to have little understanding of privacy and boundaries. It was extremely busy because it was a sunny bank holiday and covid restrictions had recently been eased, but perhaps it's always like that now.

The canal system is a real feat of engineering, it's good to know that it's still being used. With some of the bridges being so narrow you would have to know if your boat would fit before you tootled that way. Thanks again, enjoyed the cruise. =-)

  • @talesfromtheswansneck

Hi Lorraine, the engineering never fails to intrigue me. Really clever stuff. The canals carry more traffic now than they did in their hey-day. Whilst I was in Wilmcote a woman approached me and asked how wide the bridges were as they were considering taking their GRP cruiser on the canal, but all narrowboats will fit through.

Very nice indeed. And as you say a quirky canal but with lovely scenery leading into the historic Stratford upon Avon. It's been years since the last time I was there and believe it or not it was less touristy than. Very nice nevertheless. Thank you Andrew I did enjoy that Vlog. All the best. Stephen.

Hi Andrew, you’re looking as fit as butchers dog! Good vid. The usual quality video and interesting commentary. No chance of coming down with “dogger bank itch” but you know the cure anyway. Just watched a vid on hybrid and all electric narrowboats and well worth a view on KZread “electric dreams”. Take care Hutchinson and head gardener Patricia.
