    this is super interesting. My doctor tested my test levels they came back pretty normal. They sent me to an rheumatologist and endocrinologist they ended up putting it down by inability to build much muscle was down to the fact that one of medications (Laxatives) preventing my body holding onto water and also causing sleep issues along with the damage to my Gi tract as (idopathic constipation and gastoparesis). +Jordan Feigenbaum Hi, I'm a month and a half into Starting Strength and I'm just curious, I have two 1.25 pound fractional plates, would it be beneficial to go up by 2.5 lbs on squats each time instead of 5 lbs in any way (i.e. delaying stalling and extending linear progression)? Or would that be too small of an increment for squats? I would greatly appreciate your reply. Thanks.

    Other than trans men, how often do people go on TRT who aren't trying to enhance performance? And in a sense, don't give a shit about long term health? I sort of figured most patients and doctors involved in TRT know the deal. Do you guys think the majority of the TRT clinics believe they're doing the best thing for the health of their patients? Or would they more accurately be described as legalized drug dealers? Not that there's anything wrong with that! As an aside: congratulations California, you are now on par with D.C.

    When I finally worked up enough gumption to ask my GP about this topic, he gave me a psych-evaluation to see if I was suicidal. All I did was ask...thanks for doing his job for him, LOL. I’m 52, married with three kids and a post-menopausal wife and he failed to see (dare I say?) the nuance between a man trying to improve his quality of existence and a thirty year old pursing max gaaaiiinzzzz and a different piece of tail every night. Frankly, I doubt if my health coverage (not healthcare) insurance would help pay for it so the entire topic is moot. Maybe if I eat enough hormone laden chicken, pork, and beef I can get the same effect? Or maybe grow a killer set of knockers?

    Without getting boringly specific, I was reviewing my middle age disinterest in all of the things I used to find interesting and a general lack of get up and go so yeah, he was going by the book I guess. He is also over sixty, nice, and settled in for the long goodbye. I think older doctors (males) have a general attitude of "hey, death is inevitable, so why why fight back?" I am changing to a younger dude who washes his hands after the hernia check. Just as a short but intense bit of brown nosing: the entire SS organization is an inspiration and a terrific achievement. I'm absolutely certain that the number of people you and the gang help physically and mentally far exceeds the number you imagine.

    Marco Notarnicola did you watch the podcast? If you did watch it again, and if they say concepts and words that are hard to understand, then do some googling because they covered your question very thoroughly. In short, An MD can’t say that a certain number is bad or not in absence of other signs and symptoms, and a more comprehensive work-up. The MD needs to rule out other diagnoses that could be causing a lower T level and associated symptoms like mood disorders since the presentation of low T is just like many other issues that are more common. Also, the range is so wide because the sensitivity of your cells to T could be very good, or very poor. For example, a T level of 300-400 for a person with high sensitivity could be normal because the body utilizes the T more efficiently that a person with a level of 1200 and low sensitivity. The body is producing more T in this second person because the cells need more of it to do the same job as the guy with 3-400. Finally, they said one number doesn’t really mean anything, and a second test with other labs needs to be performed.

    Would a person's natural testosterone production always come back after TRT? In the 3 months they're off how would you advise they train / eat? It sounds like they'd lose a lot of muscle. There's so much I don't know about this hormone. The idea of messing with it scares the hell out of me.

  • @grantdumas4076

    @grantdumas4076

    6 жыл бұрын

    I highly doubt they would lose much if any muscle as TRT is different than doing a steroid cycle. A person on test would normally be prescribed 100 to 200 mg of test per week were as steroid cycle is much higher. 500 to 1 gram of test per week. Test is not going to help you gain that much more muscle. If you stopped taking it you will probably just go back to your pre. TRT levels. That's what happend to me. I was on TRT then went off when my wife and I were trying for a baby. My test levels just went back to their baseline levels. Everyone is different though.

    I just read up on the effects of having too high a testosterone level. I had a chuckle: Examples of drawbacks or disadvantages of men having higher than average testosterone levels include the following: Men tend to consume more alcoholic beverages. Men are more likely to smoke. Men are more likely to get injured. According to some researchers, the higher the testosterone level, the more likely men are to participate in risk-taking behavior (sexual, injury risk, and even criminal activity). Sounds like men with higher test levels are drunken sociopaths.

    latpe it sounds like you are getting a proper work-up, so I would ask the physician that is going to be prescribing the medication any questions you have. Especially since every patient could be different in how they respond to treatment (diff medical/surgical history, symptoms, etc). The doc you are seeing has all of the knowledge about your particular case, but I would assume that once you start treatment the symptoms you are experiencing will improve over time. Also, it sounds like the B.B. Medicine Duo will be going over how they manage the different types of hypogonadism in part two.

    While this is old and I understand the information, I feel like you are completely missing the point. People don't seek trt because they really care about their actual testosterone level, they seek trt because they're dissatisfied with their performance at the gym and their results/lack of results. This is the disconnect between the clinical world and the performance world. I'm not sure what my T level is but I know after 3 solid years at the gym, 3-5 days a week, with several programs, I'm not happy with the lack of results from my hard work

    Feigenbaum, for an old person would TRT improve mental function? Say you have person in the 55-65 age range whose IQ falls two standard deviations above average (130+). That person has been experiencing forgetfulness and generally reduced mental ability. Say the person is physically active, but does not strength train. In this case would TRT be a good option to retain mental function?

    Marketing campaigns and our society have likely played a role in taking the TRT prescription rate in men 40+ from 0.81 to 3% in the period 2001-2011. That doesn't mean they were all low, however.

    Jordan Feigenbaum Thanks for the reply. Do you think this being seen as a panacea treatment? Do you think there will be an issue with unwanted effects of over prescribing in the future?

    Wow this podcast was great UNTIL I heard they would take someone off their trt for 3 months to see their baseline test levels. Absolute non sense! Anyone in need of information on trt go to TRT and hormone optimization channel on youtube or Facebook. They have many qualified medical doctors with a wealth of knowledge.
