Epic Star Wars Sandcrawler Scale Model Build!

Ғылым және технология

We're back in Louisville for the annual WonderFest scale modelmaking convention, where we meet Chris Benware, the maker of this epic Star Wars Sandcrawler model and diorama. Not only has Chris painstaking recreated the studio scale Sandcrawler model using hand-cut styrene and accurate sourced model kit parts, he's also filled out the interior with a highly-detailed scene complete with lights and easter eggs!

Hope we get to see it finished. In 1978 I built a 1/64 scale Jawa Sand Crawler. I only had the SW movie program and a few Starlog magazine photos. It is far from 100% accurate but for the info I had pretty close. It is still today one of my all time favorite builds!! Thx

Nerf Herder's Worksop member here. We have lots going on with our builds over there! You can lurk and see what we do for studio & commercial kit models there, and maybe you can start taking those steps into building your own studio scale model yourself. The TIE Bomber and Imperial Probe Droid Pod are great first scratch build studio models to start with!

I absolutely LOVED this video! Last month, I started building my first model since age 14; I went “big” and chose the Polar Lights 1/350 USS Enterprise w/lights. Though I’m 65, I think I can do this. I had to retire in ‘08 with PTSD after responding as a paramedic to the Pentagon on 9/11; my MD thought trying modeling again would be helpful- and it is! 😊 Chris is so impressive and has motivated me even more. Mr. Savage, thank you very much for these type of videos and all the hard work you do producing them. Norm- you do a great job yourself, Sir! God Bless- J. ‘Doc’ Lykins, former USN Hospital Corpsman and Paramedic (Ret.)

Wow, the detail of the Sandcrawler is truly awe inspiring. 😀 I'd love to do that with a Imperial Star Destroyer, but I don't think I have a large enough building to even try to build it in... For the full set of all the badges, some naming suggestions: "Destruction Functions", " The 'I swear it', Demerit Bundle", or perhaps the "The Learning Curve Collection"?

@7:14 the Jawa on the left is looking into what seems to be the entrance to the Kenner Ewok's Treehouse playset. On the middle rear wall, it appears to be the Drive Sprockets, and Wheel Bogies from a Tank kit. The red lighted section also looks like a Lower Hull and the Exhaust Deck from a Tank. I love the ingenuity in making "other stuff" look like it belongs there! Fantastic build. The Force is truly strong with this one. 😃

I’ve always wondered if a sand crawler inspired gold wash plant would be efficient for Parker on Gold Rush. He seems to have found that using a conveyor to lift the pay material to the plant directly from the cut is more efficient than trucking the material all the way up to the plant so the wash plant ends up getting moved often for each new cut and looks very difficult to move.
