I really enjoy watching these videos, those buses are so basic and mechanical but built to last 💪🏻 it’s a real shame things aren’t built the same anymore. Keep up the good work everyone 👍🏻

I welded a bolt on a large ball bearing to use for a hole punch when making gaskets, cleaner cut than a hammer. Making gaskets is a dying art.

when making gaskets easest way to do the bolt holes is a dome nut on a bolt place dome ocer bolt hole and tap bolt with a hammer makes a nice smooth hole , the way we did it on my apprenticeship back in the early 70s

I've drawn crude diagrams to guide me on reassembly without which, I'd have been lost. I rebuilt a carburettor by listing each step of disassembly in detail.

When I finally left the bus industry in 2004, I took all my old RM/RT tools with me. (Ended up giving them away) I also had an RT gearbox 'Bucket' that fitted inside the Wilson pre-select gearbox. I should think that those gearbox buckets, are like 'hens teeth' today. Hopefully Tim will be able to source one as a backup spare. Should you break a gearbox bucket on the road, it's definitely a tow job, unless you have one to hand. Great film as always lads cheers Jonnie.👍

Love watching these videos, you guys are much better engineers than I am but watching you make the holes in the gaskets is painful, try using a ball bearing instead, it normally cut through first hit.

That is awesome viewers donated Whitworth tools, not a good time having to fix something without the proper tools. And I'm not trying to be Mr health and safety but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE wear safety glasses, I had a shock absorber come apart and blast hydraulic oil in my face, that stuff burns like hell, I had to feel my way to a wash basin to flush my eyes, thankfully it didn't damage my eyes, working alone and having to remember where the basin is and feel your way while your eyes are on fire is frightening, you only have two eyes.

I've travelled many miles sitting in the back of one of these buses and we took them for granted then, except I always liked the sound of the engines on tickover. One thing I always wanted to do was have a go on the conductor's ticket machine but once again, I think it was about the sound they made when the ticket was cranked out. I remember riding on London Transport's double decker trolley buses too and it just occurred to me, with modern lithium batteries, couldn't we ride those around again with a box of batteries in the back? Has anybody done this?
