    @@FourPriestsBrewery I am convalescing and am unable to brew (or work :-) ) for a few weeks and your playlist hit the spot at the right time. But the story, technical solutioning and of course the beer element kept me engaged. I am not interested in editing quality tbh - content is king. But yes, editing has got better over time. Personally, I am not a fan of too much music, I want to hear the crash and bang of the brewery. Your brewery is on the to do list once I get back up to your neighborhood. Keep telling us the story

    Congratulations Andy, You should feel very proud at doing your first brew. Shame you were alone as a a bit of moral support would have been nice + an extra pair of hands to hold the transfer pipe in the top of the fermenter when you needed it. Job well done. p.s. thanks for saying Alexa & setting my bloody thing off. 👍👍👍

Real good decision doing the "dry" run on the friday, just think what the day would have been like if you had gone for it on the friday without it! Nice work. Brewfather 'strike temp calculator' is your friend. I always use it to work out my strike temp the day before brewing. Also the 'gravity correction/boil off' is a useful tool for liquoring back to hit your target gravity.

    Actually props to you for videoing the first brew too! I know what pressure that is, new kit and everything! Another hint, calibrate your pH meter just before, you may have actually done this and not shown it but its worthwhile. I ended up investing in a ETI pH meter.

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching this mate, it's been a long time coming! I've been brewing professionally for a couple months now, in my career change! My brewhouse is similar in capacity and age to yours, I work in a Brewpub, you probably could guess the pub group. As such I have to tussle with misplacing my spanners too! Makes me really wish I had new kit with tri clamp fittings. In regards to your beerstone issue. When I CIP fermenters and wash my casks, I use Caustic and Proxalate. Proxalate is a a sequestrant for use as descalant or an additive to Caustic. It does a fantastic job at cleaning and removing beerstone. It's a unique blend of alkaline polycarboxylate sequestrants.

  • @SuperRS2008

    @SuperRS2008

    Also the Caustic & Proxalate mixture I use works best at higher temps, I've found 50c to be fantastic!

  • @FourPriestsBrewery

    @FourPriestsBrewery

    Hi Elliott. Great name, and nice career change. I found that the caustic does zero for the stone on it's own. Sequestrants are good to keep the stone away, but once you have it it's a bugger to shift. Phosgel and Nitracid seem to be the products most used to shift it, and that first treatment definitely did some work. Will do it again once the tank is empty. Cheers!

  • @SuperRS2008

    @SuperRS2008

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, you're right. If the beerstone has been say there for a while it'll be a bugger to use. I forgot that I have the benefit of having all my fermenters in rotation, and hence the cleaning is kept on top of. 😅 Look forward to seeing your journey continue!

    Congrats on the brew day! I remember my first commercial brew amd being as stressed as you youl learn your kit and how to speed the process up along the way. One thing id recomend is once you paa your fv and its sterile keep that lid closed we dumped 3000l recentley due to an infection and its not fun. We hook our lines up to the fv with sight glasses and use hot water above 80c for 20 minutes to sterilize our transfer lines Grain can contain bacteria on it and the dust in air can get into your open lid on the fv especially with waiting until the next day to pitch yeast Im not trying to talk you down either im sure you know all this its just ive been there and done it and it happens Overall awesome 1st brew

  • @FourPriestsBrewery

    Hi Chris, thanks for sticking with us! The tanks are designed around English firkin casks. They will produce 7 casks/brew. A firkin is 9 UK gallons or just under 41 litres each - so hopefully 285 litres of finished beer. There is headspace in them as there are losses as you go from vessel to vessel and they are, I think, about 330 litres to the brim. I really need to check this so I can max out the capacity, soon...another job on my list :)

    yep, I got the keys Dec 1st and have really only spent Saturdays and a bit of Sunday in there. So it’s been busy! I want to get the beer out there before we get merchandise but T-shirts would be very nice 👌

    Well alot of things went right for a first run I think. Gotta have room to improve eh? Maybe get an apron like Harry's got going on. Cheers

    Cheers Ben. Well there's beer in the tank so it must have gone right :) An apron is a good shout. And waterproof socks.

    My wife is my business partner in this and our son will get more involved soon. Although she’s seldom seen she’s taking up the slack with all the other stuff that i should be doing at home. She’ll be taking on more of the ridiculous paperwork we need to keep HMRC happy. And collecting invoices, paying suppliers etc . I hope to concentrate on the brewing!

    @@FourPriestsBrewery Great news, keep it in the family. I brew 10 lts BiaB and that's hard enough for me so I can't comprehend how difficult it is to start up a little brewery like yours. Good luck with all you do, it's fun to watch as you progress :)
