    Story 2 struck a nerve. My grandfather had a stroke in 2005 and my father had power of attorney over his health care while my uncle had power of attorney over everything else. My grandfather was my favorite person and my hero. He served in the army during WWII and Korea. He was a very successful business owner and had made himself a good living. My uncle very quickly moved all my grandfather's money out of my grandfather's account and into his. I remember having a talk with my grandfather about his wishes about a year before his stroke where he told me the contents of his will. His money was to be split between my two cousins and myself and I was to get a rifle that belonged to his dad as well as the sword he brought back from his time in WWII. Everything was stolen by my uncle and when my uncle died my cousins got everything and I couldn't afford an attorney to fight this.

    Story 1: A classic case of why you should NEVER loan out money to anybody, unless you have some kind of agreement in writing, or you can kiss that cash goodbye forever. I laughed pretty good when the OP got out of the tow truck while the "friends" tried to make excuses to the tow truck driver and he called them out on it. Those "friends" absolutely deserved to lose their car. Story 2: If the OP is still making very good money working PT as opposed to FT, and his quality of life is way better, then i really dont see what her problem is. It almost sounds like all she cares about it more money/income, and not the OP's happiness, health and well-being. If she is unwilling to compromise or be at least somewhat understanding, then the OP should really reconsider his relationship, because this will only get worse. Story 3: Stuff like this is why people contest wills. Something tells me that either the step-grandmother or one of the step-daughters did something to the will to intentionally cut everyone else out. The grandmother was probably originally with the grandfather just to eventually get his money, and the step-daughters probably did something to the will to make sure things like this happened.... especially if the executor utterly refused to discuss it. Sounds like something shady really went down there. I know in some states/provinces, you can get legal action just to be able to see/hear the will. Story 4: You know, all the gf had to say was something like "this guy and i used to be FWB before we met, but it was over before we met" and pretty much ALL of this could've been avoided. The OP has more then enough reason to feel insecure or suspicious. The gf is clearly hiding something here. While he may have not found something on her old texts or something, but the way the gf was acting around that Chris, and not wanting to introduce him... i think she's scared that the Chris guy will spill the beans on everything. It's totally fine to have friends of the opposite gender, along with former FWB's or something like that, but the way it was handled by the gf was flat-out wrong.

She might be thinking about future proofing - retirement savings, stocks, that kind of thing. If she is putting large chunks of money towards that and he is is not, then it feels to her like he plans to live off hers should they decide to get married. She would have to learn to be okay with that imbalance, which is incredibly difficult. His lifestyle is great and kudos to him for being skilled enough to do that - as an American that seems unreal.

    ^This^ The OP of that story was pretty much saying "How dare the person I love and care for have ambitions when I want to sit around." Like, shouldn't a permanent house be a goal? Why would you willingly raise children in a small city apartment when you could afford something more with just a bit more work? It seems like the OP doesn't understand that their mental health isn't the only thing holding the world together

  • @justinterested5819

    @justinterested5819

    @@ethanh9275 1) I think you underestimate how much he makes. A City Appartement in a demanded neighborhood is not cheap. A Part time job often pays worse than a full time Job per hour. Taxes in Germany are very high. 2) "Ambition" is something you have to do yourself, not telling others to do more. 3) "Sit around" He says he does voluntarily work and exercise in his free time as well. 4) No. Not everyone wants a house. A house not only costs money, but also makes a ton of work that has to be done, and there is also the risk of loosing it. Land is very expensive if you want to live even close to city, so on top of the additional hours, there is the travel time as well (at least 5 Hours/Week) that is unpaid. On top of that, there is the need to drive and to own a car (additional cost, stress and risk). 5) Because of 2), 3) (He can care for kids, do the household his wife would have to do), and 4). And its totally possible. A kid can totally live in a small house, especially in a city. They can also spend the money of the expensive trips on more cheaper trips. Additionally, a Flat doesnt need to be small. There are also bigger flats. 6)"Little bit more". At least 10 Hours more work/week excluding driving. 7) He can afford a flat, and his life including 2 trips to abroad/year and can save money. He has a stable life, and probably a good social life. What else do you need?

    1) He saves money. 2) Thats not necessary. If they want a house, they need to take a loan anyway. And when they decide to do it, he can use the money from saved rent to pay his part, what would make them equal. She wants to life of HIS work as it seems.

  • @divepup1

    @divepup1

    Point taken that he says he is saving money. That would make the money thing a little bit more bearable. But if they have been together 3 years the thought of marriage would be there and she would be looking at habits. His habits would fold should he lose that job. And if he is part-time that might be higher chance of layoff. In the US it seems to be. And honestly if you plan to have kids you should NOT have the renter mentality. You should be working to get actual property. You should want to have a homestead for your children to hopefully inherit. That shift is happening for her and not him.

  • @hellbadvid

    @hellbadvid

    6 ай бұрын

    This is a tricky question. Sounds like they are living together inn a situation that sounds "close to marriage". It makes no sense to me that he would willingly give up 40% of his income when they are renting. When they retire the rent will still be the same but the income will drop. Work when you have the time before the kids come. If he increases his income by 40% he could spend so much more time with the children by taking time off. And have a comfortable life when they retire. If you still need the time off for mental health. Start working 75% and let the wife do the same.

    Story 3: The same thing happened in my family with my great-grand father step mom. My great-great-grand father was a WWI vet who lived in France on an island really close to the continent which wasn't much of a deal at the time but is now a popular tourist spot. He had my great-grand father and his siblings with his first wife who died in 1926. He later remarried his second wife who already had kids from a first marriage and never had any with my gg-grand father. Everyone in my family despised them. He died in 1932 from an old wound he never treated after his second wife asked him to treat it. But he didn't leave a will behind, so the 2 family went to court to decide on the inheritance. The thing is that at the time the laws around inheritance greatly favorised the current wife of the dead and so we lost all of my gg-grand father properties to them. It consisted of around 15 houses including the biggest hotel of the island (it still is to this day) and 2 commerces.

    I would do this to family as well. Heck, I even have done it to family. I only allow honest people in my life. If someone is dishonest they will be told soon enough to run far away. I am not a vindictive person, however I have better things to do than to make an appearance in the soap opera of douchebags.

    Story 2 - Clearly your partner is the problem. Tell her to get over it and stop complaining or leave. You are not doing anything wrong. Story 4 - For me, I'd tell her to either Stay away the hell from him or stay away from me. No conversation needed.

    That’s totally missing the point - he values the free time because it’s his time, to devote to genuinely life affirming activities, with no pressure to earn money like a drone 24/7. It’s sad to see the whole of society so brainwashed into wasting their life breaking their backs to feed a few billionaire parasites.

    2nd Story - better to just leave the GF. Women are rarely ever satisfied about anything - the key is finding one that doesn't feel the need to complain about it all the time. If you are already going through this now, it will only get worse the longer you stay with her. THROW HER OUT. A woman cannot stand a man being happy - they will inevitably find some way complicate things or interject what they want (not need) to ruin the man's happiness. Better to find someone else that is comfortable minding their own business or remain single, but don't dare give in!

    Story 2- I don't quite agree with him. you have to understand that, yes, it's ok to want to do less work for your mental health, but you also have to understand that your girlfriend is working possibly three times as hard right now , just to make the same income. So from her pov, she probably just sees that you aren't trying at all to ease any of her pain while you sit back enjoying the sweet life in your apartment. It's good to work on your own mental health, but you should also probably think about her as well. I bet you would be a little upset if she suddenly decided to reduce her hours as much as you just to have some free time. Edit- also, if you have no goals, and plan to just live in a shitty apartment your whole life- in which could up prices, then your possibly future kids aren't gonna have a fun life either. And kids are expensive!

    For story 3 I don't understand why people feel some sort of entitlement to what other people choose to do with their money and belongings there is no reason for her to give anybody anything when the person states this money could be life-changing it's like you're asking for a handout so I think they need a reality check and to put their grown-up pants on and get over it

    If both are long since over, and are 100 honest about it all, then there's no reason why you couldnt have a relationship with someone like that. If they aren't, or suggest opening the relationship up after, then yes, run and fast.

    @@QuickManEXE no habuma is right. Individuals that have had friends with benefits or open relationships are less likely to pair bond and are more likely to bring these topics up again or cheat. Also, there is no way an individual would know they are telling the truth. It is safer, easier, and much more effective to avoid people that have engaged in these activities.

    Is it just me or does the narrator call anything and everything "toxic" all of a sudden? Like yes, some behaviors/people ARE toxic, just observing that it's kinda being thrown around in these videos a lot lately (vs any other descriptor)
