James Theus it would be hard for me to fathom any student not having at least 1 teacher that has the level of compassion that these colleagues exhibit. Most teachers are there not because of the money or fame, but because they feel they can make a difference. I'm sure there's at least 1 teacher who you've had who has been instrumental in motivating, encouraging, enlightening and even rubbing you the wrong way to get the right thing out of you for positive results. If you have had one that will fit any of those adjectives (or any others that can amount to your personal growth and development), then you've seen a teacher that really does care. Hope this enlightens you. If so, you know I care, too!

I had just this week thanked one of my teachers that I had in middle school. I saw that it was her birthday on Facebook and I was thinking about teachers that had inspired me and were amazing role models. I wrote her what I was up to and thanked her. I told a time when she would drive to my house to deliver my homework. How she would help me after school. I also went back to thank another teacher that I had in high school. This wonderful woman had bought me an outfit for a job interview, helped me make a resume, made sure I had resources like food in my house. I was lucky to had meet these wonderful individuals. They made a big change in my life. I just wish that other people also get lucky with meeting wonderful teachers like these.

I live in a tourist town, and there have been times when there was a new teacher every year. Some of them were great, others less so, but most would try to joke often and really connect with us, knowing we thought they would soon be gone. I don't know why, but this video made me think of that. I still think of some of those teachers and the impact they had on us after only one year, my friends and I still talk about them once in a while. Luckily we know someone who hangs out with one of the coolest all the time and can relay our messages to him!

In my 21 years i can think of 3 teachers who actually made a difference in me. In 3 or 2 grade i remember we had block schedule (a, b, c, d) we were all off differently in summer. The teacher we had who was bilingual, and for some reason the other students would pick and bully us from her class because (we had accents, basically we were the mix kids, African american, Hispanics, and about 2 or 3 white kids.) We told her about it and she comfort us made US feel better and after that the kids didn't pick on us anymore. We all had our backs in that class. She would help EVERY SINGLE one of us and didn't seem to even mind repeating herself individually. ❤❤

My favorite teacher wasn’t even a teacher I had. It was my XC/Track coach. He was a really fun/funny guy and everything about him was awesome. My first year running I just clicked with him and we always had fun. We never really talk too much. But usually whenever we saw each other we’d make a joke or just say something and then laugh about it. And he was a really good and strict coach. The kind that I really like. He knew what was needed to be put in in order to win and he knew when things were being pushed too far. There was one season where we did running workouts every single practice for a month because we weren’t doing too well and we wanted to win. And through that he could see who actually wanted to be there and who actually wanted to win. That’s another time when him and I connected because he saw that even though it was extremely tough and at times painful, I was always fighting through it. I remember being sick for a week during it and during a workout he told me specifically to cut it short because I wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t perform as well. But I kept going and did the whole workout with the team and he was really proud and impressed by it. Throughout the years he’s really shown me that I am capable of doing so much more than I ever thought I was, and that you don’t get to great heights by not working hard. You need to be dedicated and work hard to get what you want. I plan on writing out a speech to say to him during the banquet this year. I’m really going to miss him when I graduate

The great moments in teaching definitely outweigh those frustrating days. I love my students and I am hard on them because they have to be successful. They have no choice. And just when I ask myself am I being too tough, I get emails during breaks saying, “Thank you Ms. Martin for being my teacher” or “I miss and love you Ms. Martin...hope you’re enjoying your break” and in that moment, I wouldn’t trade this career path for anything in this world, including money.
