What Brian Shaw did to come back at almost forty and nearly win against all the young monsters is incredible. I think it's been a bit underrated as an achievement. He'd suffered nagging injuries and accumulated a ton of outside business/personal interests...and yet he almost bagged his fifth WSM title. Only a prime Tom Stoltman beat him...

Time will tell if Tom is in his prime. He’s just 26 years old here, strongmen on average don’t hit their best years until their early 30’s. Will be interesting to see if he can progress beyond his current limits.

@@cantilever Not at all, Big Z, Pud, Shaw, Kaz all won their first WSM before their prime years and lifted much heavier years after their first win. Tom won but look who wasn’t there, Thor, Hall, Licis, Novikov the reigning champion didn’t even make the final, all the heavy hitters from previous few years not competing in the final. I’m a Scotsman, proud of what Tom achieved, but the reality is it was a weak field compared to previous years and as I stated the prime/heaviest lifting years for strongmen is in their early 30’s. Time will tell.

@@jimsim8736 No. Z was absolutely in his prime when he won his first title in 2009 at age 34, as was Shaw in 2011, as was Kaz in 1980, as was Mariusz in 2002. Last year was a stacked field compared to previous years. Non-prime Tom would not have beaten past-his-prime-but-100%-focused Brian. I watched non-prime Tom in 2019 live and knew what his future betokened. Tom put it all together and is in his prime right now...

Tom isnt at his prime yet and will win a few more times for sure. I would also love to see Konstantine and JF place high on the Podium. Luke aswell, also because he seems to be such a lovely dude. Bobby, Trey and Eythor are still kinda new to the Sport and will have their success for sure. Maxime surprised me for such a ''small'' guy compared to the others in the field. Interesting, I think that finishing first here gives you a really give advantage. Not only because it is better time than your opponent, but also the specific cheer of the crowd when someone finishes most likely affects the opponents performance. In all of them, one the other finished, the opponent instantly knew because of the crowd and quickly lost their tempo.
