For me as a 7w8, I REALLY struggle with denial. I will deny everything to the point of it being unhealthy. I will also ignore physical and emotional pain. I will make myself busy and pack my schedule to the point of convincing myself I don’t have time to deal with this. But I definitely agree about the evading pain thing I specifically use denial and businesses as a tactic. I also reframe a lot of things from a negative to positive perspective. And I am painfully logical. I have like no emotions and the ones I do I run full force from. But I really struggle not to be brutally honest and I tend to be oblivious to or annoyed by sensitive and emotional people. I’m also just motivated by having fun. The only way I do anything productive is by finding something fun to look forward to as a goal or incorporating small things that I enjoy into things that I hate which are mundane.

I am a blunt, bold, totally edgy 7w8 indeed! :D Although I am determined and persistent when I truly want something, I experience a different problem as a young adult. Namely, it is SO HARD to decide what I want; I like a lot of things and do not want to commit to a career because I am scared that I would not enjoy it as much or that I would not get paid enough to fulfill my other desires like traveling and trying out new things. The fear of missing out is oftentimes nerve-wracking. And as a true 7w8 I'll stop being all emotional and go out get myself a nice cold beer!

Fellow 7 here. I find that I've shifted from a 7w6 to a 7w8 gradually from when i was child/teen/young adult to being in my 30's. I care less and less if people like me or not. If they do, great, if not, too bad. Lol

Wow. This was extremely helpful. It was definitely difficult to listen to, but I persevered. I am a type 7w8 and I am currently dealing with something painful. My immediate reaction is to cut ties with the people who are bringing me pain. Listening to this helped me realize that I won’t be my best self unless I grow in this area instead of running from it and chasing happiness.

So accurate!! You described me perfectly. I’m a 7w6 and I always felt like the “party animal” description of the 7 didn’t really match. Now I realize it’s the wing 6 connection to my family is what keeps me rational :) even down to my very tiny tattoo of the number 4 representing my family of 4. Not the baby footprint per se, but still “family” related. Amazing video! Wish my husband the 1 would listen haha

This is EXCELLENT. My daughter seems to be a 7w6/ESFP.. we got divorced when she was 1 1/2. Shes the most thoughtful, emotionally volatile.. the fomo, boredom, always the experience shes JUST had or is _currently_ having she fears is not enough.. incontent, dissatisfied.. I cant GIVE her enough experiences, entertainment, joy.. She's always moving triple movement.. looking at what everyone else has/is doing and wants it/to do it too. Shes a freedom based creator, material-oriented, explorer. Loves nature.. Shes amazing. Brilliant mind.. shes amazingly natural, the least clumsy. Shes amazing at math, and has a flair for EVERYTHING 🤣 driven for friendship, and for sharing anything she has.. asked me to buy her friend this little stuffed animal bc she lost hers, and saw hers. 🤣 But I see that fear of pain right through it. The enneagram, ive just stumbled onto understanding recently.. the description of the 7, desires and fears totally sums up Im a 3w4?, ENTJ. Almost the worst compatibility.. but ive been studying and studying.. and im not natural at mothering her at all.. but I want to be. 😕 I can't believe how lucky i am to have finally found a 7w6/ESFP producing KZread videos. She's so hard to get words out of but the way you've described your thoughts and motivations perfectly matches her actions. Thank you so so so much for this video. I'm bouta binge your videos 😁 Side note.. 7w8s are super ESTPs 👌

I have a 7 w 8 daughter. I call her Wednesday Adams. That's her level of emotion most times.😂 She's an extremely high achieving girl (very 3ish) with a need for adrenaline and tasty foods and snacks. You would think she was a 3 if you met her but she doesn't much care what people think, she has the worst time making choices and fun is really her core driver. She's sarcastic but viewed as nice by everyone. She's very physical and just unreal smart. Very dynamic person.

@@DiamondsRexpensive When we are born, the ego (the enneagram type) isn't there yet. Each center (mental, emotionnal and instinctive) is used equally. We are in the essence. The ego forms itself around 0-2 YO as a way to survive in the world, by doing this, a center is sacrificed by the top one like a scapegoat and gets repressed, and another center supports the top one. Thats where the ego forms, its basicly a lot of hypnotic trances stacked together. We only have 1 type (each type is the 2 types next to it "in a shacker" btw, you can easily see that for the triangle, harder for the rest) and parents are supposed to help you develop so you dont need a second type to survive basicly. When you "get into the real World", around 18-22, you develop another ego (another type next to your type), its like you "lean" to one side and reject the other, developping another type is a way of compensating your type. Its very rare to develop another second wing, only happens after 40 YO and a lot of work on yourself, most people die without a second wing. Idk if that answers or if im even understandable xD What im saying isn't fully correct, its just to give the Idea, take what i say with a grain of salt

37:58 a couple of years ago my friend confronted me with the fact that I don’t feel my feelings, but I think my feelings. And that I need to learn to feel them because then I can not be so stuck when it came to all the bad stuff that has happened that I could not run away from. It’s been such a long journey but now I can sit with myself, and yes sometimes I have to have music in the background, but I can be in the moment in my feelings and cry it out, let it out and just feel. It has genuinely helped me reach happiness in a way that I never thought was possible. It’s still not my preferred thing to do but I can be present in the moment even when it sucks. I’m so much more confident in my ability to handle the bad stuff now and it speaks to the people around me. I’m no longer just a shallow optimistic person that I was before. But the hope I feel deep down in my bones is now a testimony to those around me of real joy and happiness. I finally feel like I’m tapping into my calling to be the joy.

This helped me become clear that I am a 7w6. I find it interesting that most of my "growing up" has come through integrating loss, grief,...breathing through, accepting and experiencing negative states. I feel strongly led to work with the dying at this time of my life. Up to this point though, I have taught dance out of a desire for people to experience well being. I think these high positive states are the best place to create from. I have experienced quite a few significant deaths since I was young. I feel that part of a gift of the 7 is knowing that life is precious. If I can experience that preciousness and share that with someone, I feel deeply connected to why we are here and all of what it is to be human.

I feel like we work together incredibly well, as my empath instincts help my partner feel things he may not want to while he becomes a person I can tell my feelings to and help learn that they don't have to control me. Sure, we still don't always face the problem, but that's an issue we still work out, little by little. We have each other to hold on to when the tide gets rough.

I'd dare to say that we're one of the most misunderstood (and precisely difficult to understand) eneatypes.. bc usually our characterizations are so shallow, just like how the 7ven itself is considered to be.. But it takes a real 7ven to accurately convey the complexity of our type and not stay only with the always 'high, hyperactive, euphoric, soul-of-the-party, clownsy' definition of a 7. Here a twin (social) 7w6. Love your work, Dr Lahue!!!

Now that I know I have a 6 Wing I can totally get it. Thanks for explaining all of this to us in an easy-to-understand way! I am loving learning about the Enneagram and so are my two daughters. My husband not so much. I think he's a three or at 1. 🤷

Thanks for sharing Tom. Awesome input, full of richness & depth. This is so valuable. So in mbti terms, which I understand don't necesserily go hand in hand with the enneastyles, the (Ne-Fi) Doms are more likely 7s w6, & the (Se-Fi) Doms are more likely 7s w8. Both have a tertiary (Te), which makes total sense, because all types have a natural disposition towards their tertiary cognitive function & show that function in its most genuine & its rawest form. Nice concluding ending. My genuine appreciation. Tarik (INFJ 6w7)

I am a 4 and have a 7 in my life and I see that it could do SO good for him to learn to embrace the darker side of the life also, like we fours do (and yeah, we're damn good at it). But it's awesome to have a seven in your life, especially I think so as a four, otherwise I would be just there in the darkest pit weeping on my own all the time. 😂

This video really helped with my identification as a 7w6, so thank you for that! However, one small thing that still is causing me a bit of doubt with this is how I can get apathetic towards things when I am dissatisfied, or feel that the grass could be greener elsewhere... Does apathy as a response still fit with a 7w6 type?

I feel my feelings constantly and escape is fleeting although I do try of course. ;) Gratitude and contentment, (I've been there before) eludes me right now. I am in the place we fear most. I love these and they are so informative. I'm not sure the designation of 7 subtypes as "child", "adolescent", & "adult" work to well as metaphors. While I get the gist of them (you discussed them in a different video on 7s...), there's also a kind of pejorative connotation to all of them except the adult. I do think they could be a useful way of understanding the evolution of a 7 from younger to older and growing towards health. Also, I (I'm laughing at myself right now...) I have found myself go back and forth from the so-called innocent or naive "child" type to more of the "adult" type. I've never really got into the "adolescent" type, though. Anyway, just throwing that out there. I am learning so much listening to your in depth analysis on 7s and look forward to learning about the other types too!

It protects my freedom. By learning how to attend to the needs of the 6 i have shifted my attachment style from avoidant withholding toward healthy confident. I find that in studying the enneagram i keep gaining more and more freedom to access the strengths of the different strategies 7w8-joe rogan, danny devito, rhea perlman, bill burr, all mediterrenean cultures.

ENFP type 7 here (+ADHD) 🙋‍♂️ I type dual wing 6/8….a lot here made *a lot* of sense LOL. I do go through the best and worst of both worlds. I’d say that I most often speak “7w8 things” with a “7w6 filter” so it’s less blunt and I just search for a more cordial way to convey it…unless my goal is to shock and get your attention or if I’m feeling spicy 🌶 As if my brain is mostly an 8 and my mouth is mostly 6. 😆 The two of them talk a lot - it’s often like the 6 is sitting on my left shoulder 😇 and 8 sits on my right 😈.

I flow between both wings. I tap into 8 when I have to defend or cuss someone out. Watch out! It's shocking how tough I can become. I use the 5 arrow in how I solve problems. When I'm solving problems and finding solutions I totally look like a 5. I use the 1 arrow to get things done that have to be done and also to cut someone down to there flaws and faults when I feel threatened or crossed. That 7 sunny demeanor goes to the background if I feel threatened, disrespected or mistaken for weak. Otherwise I'm really pleasant and fun most of the time.😂 I'm a 7 w 6.

I'm Riso-Hudson certified and have studied the Enneagram almost 20 years, but the wing information always seems either scant or confusing, since I definitely see some 8 influence in me. I think I may be a 7 but I’m not sure because I used to have a MAJOR desire not to miss out on any fun. Then I started having kids and haven’t stopped for 19 years! Ha! I have 10 now and have learned to be very content being home and caring for the home and my children. I still love to be spontaneous and have fun but my husband isn’t so much the spontaneous type so I don’t usually get to do things like that. Is it possible for a 7 to not look or feel much like a 7 anymore maybe because I’ve been stifled? It’s very confusing. I’ve thought maybe I’m a 9 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’m new to this.

Im an ENTP and i suspect im a 7w8 but i could also be a 4w3. I have a streak some would call perfectionistic, but i consider myself to be an optimalist. Nothing fills me up with a greater sense of freedom than to discover a new approach to a standard situation. I am HIGHLY competitive and hard on myself. But also am a firm believer in discovery and anti conventiality. When i need to escape i try to imagine the life i always wanted to earn. Realistically, i just got fired after grinding for 4 years to find a job. They didnt even want to fire me. I had a bad day and made a mistake that got me fired. The past 5 days have been VERY Turbulent. Because it was a good job, i had made some big plans really quick.

infp 7 w 8 here, thank you for info ,i always had this fire to go get what i passionate about, and when its start to get hard in a way that where i found my strength ,to stand for what i believe and to stand for the peoples i love ,some may think that kindness and compassion is something they can exploit that when the wing 8 comes out to rampage, you can be kind and emphatic and loving and compassionate but if others think they can bully you or exploit your good nature you just gona demolish them if they get in your way, there is always this rotation like a butterfly be gentle and sensitive and emotional and if threaten the phoenix comes out or when you have certain challenge you face or dream that ignite that spark ,almost if the passion or inspiration and happiness give you life,to do everyday something a bit new never get stuck in same routine have it modified a bit so the passion won't fade away.

Great. I found a fellow INFP 7w8. I'm kind of pissed at people generalizing INFPs idealistic and too emotional when actually Fi is all about internalizing and hiding emotions. I guess INFPs with 7w8 had developed their Te and Ne. Truth is, being type 7 you try to exhaust yourself with ideas and work (Ne) so you can get out of the Fi-Si loop. I don't want to keep remembering my past mistakes and guilt so in order to move forward I use Ne. We're the most practical idealist. Lol.
