Thanks Dave for another great video and for highlighting this great filter. My usual workflow is to do all optical corrections with DxO PhotoLab then into Photoshop to 'set myself up for success' and work with the TX9 panel and then finally tweak the image, if required, with NIK Collection filters. This is one I will certainly use.

Thanks Dave. I love this filter. I usually apply it with a darks 3 TK9 mask.

Thanks again. Ive used this a bit and it's so easy to go too far. Seeing you use the lumisocopy is helpful. I have some presets from an airplane photographer that combines different contrasts filters with other stuff including detail. have to look more carefully next time i use. - tim

So Cool! Thanks Dave - Question I assume the Detail Extractor is adding a certain amount of sharpening and or contrast in order to bring out the detail. Do you know what the filter is actually doing. I usually like to leave my master files as is and only add sharpening when I decide how I am going to output the file (e.g. on the web or for print). But since you can save this as a Smart Object and as a separate layer, I really don’t see this as a concern as you can still make any adjustments you want. Any thoughts on this Dave? Thanks

Mario, The Detail Extractor filter in NIK Color Efex enhances image details without sharpening. It brightens shadows, darkens highlights, and exaggerates existing details. You can adjust its strength to bring out texture and depth in your photos. Think of it as a simple HDR effect that allows subtle adjustments to be quite effective.

Sometimes this edit function works a treat and other times it doesn't, I think it all depends on the type of scene it is, in my view it is not for every pic edit.

It’s always worth a try. I agree it is not for every image.

Good tutorial Dave, I’ll think I’ll try this on one of my landscapes. Then do a watercolor or oil painting effect on it I think it’s worth a try

Thanks for another fine tutorial video Dave. If I go to Nik 7 from version 6 does Nik 7 keep version 6 by default or do I have to do some extra pushups?
