I keep wondering why his eyes were different from the form he'd taken. But based on other comments, here are my thoughts: She doesn't mean eyes physically. Not color, not shape. Another commenter suggested her previous partner was abusive. Because he treats her so well, I believe she means his eyes are different in the sense of being kind and soft towards her, rather than hard and cruel.

Bakeneko are sort of a subspecies of Nekomata. The thing about Nekomata is that they're known to kill and eat people, particularly those who have hurt them. True, Bakeneko aren't as malevolent as Nekomata are but there's an interesting story I heard about their shapeshifting. If I remember correctly, both Bakeneko and Nekomata (in this story) are only able to shapeshift into people that they have killed and eaten. So, assuming those rules are followed in this story, perhaps Len's guilt is a bit more than "I took on the role of your dead lover" but instead "I killed him, ate him and now I'm taking on his form." I could be wrong, but it would be interesting!

If that's the case, then "after all the wrong I've done to you, please tell me that you hate me too" would make perfect since. But if bakeneko eat the people who harmed them I wonder what the girl's boyfriend/husband did to him? But I agree with some of the other people, it would make a good anime. Maybe not quite as a series but as a movie.

Actually, the do not *have* to eat the person. It can also just be a recently deceased one.

Hi! So, what's going on is that Len is a bakeneko, a monster-cat who can shape-shift (you can google this.) We then have Lady-san whose lover passed away, and Len, wanting to cheer her up, turns into her lover, pretending that he lost his memory and saying things like "I'll never leave" Well, turns out that Lady-san knew all along he was fake, but "It's alright." Len, however, feels horrible. The curse is undone, but Len hates himself for manipulating Lady-san's feelings. Hope this helps! (:

i don't really understand this. so, if a bakeneko can only turn into a human they ate, does that mean that len ate her lover? but why is she not upset? i'll guess that her original lover was abusive or something, and len ate him only to be with her, unbeknownst to him. perhaps thats why she isn't sad, because he has different eyes she knows that its somebody else-- and len treats her better. that might be why she was not sad at the end, but rather said "thank you".
