[ENG subtitles] Changgeuk Simcheongga "The story of Sim-Bongsa's regaining his eyesight"
Музыка
Changgeuk (Korean classical opera) is a variation of Pansori. Unlike a Pansori singer who plays multiple roles, each Changgeuk singer plays only one character in a story.
And have you heard about the story of Sim Cheong? The story of her father's regaining eyesight shown in this clip is the climax of the whole story. It is very touching, so I couldn't but shed some tears while watching it...
I hope you like it, too!

Most of the time, I'd be bored if such a short plotline was stretched out for 10 minutes. It's incredible how pansori is capable of taking a simple plot and turning it into something with so much emotion and meaning. Love it.
all pansori performances bring tears to my eyes. regardless if i know the story they tell. i feel the emotions.
This is my first time watching a Korean classic opera. I think this is a really heart warming story & full of pure emotion. It's awesome

Basically Korean opera. ❤️
Her acting is so good! It's hard to pretend to be crying and to pretend to sing like you are crying. She's very incredible.
I first heard part of Simcheongga on the National Singing Contest back in 1983 while stationed at Osan. It was performed by a young girl and I could not understand a word of it. It sounded strange and discordant, but still managed to touch me in some way that I could not understand. My then girlfriend, now wife, is of the Cheongsong Sim clan and so she delighted in telling me a bit about the story. Now more than 30 years later I find this and get to follow along with English subtitles and it does not sound strange or discordant, it sounds like pure emotion. It touched me in a way that I now can understand and I broke down in tears. Thank you so much for putting this out; it is just so incredible!

1smallstep I really appreciate your sincere comment! and also thank you for serving my country Korea! As a local Korean, I also shed some tears when I watched this play... so I decided to translate the words and make English subtitles... Now you've made me feel rewarded! Haha thanks for that! :)

kjkj927 I am so grateful that you put in the tremendous effort to translate this; my Korean is limited, but it is good enough to know how different it is from English and how hard it is to render the subtleties into English. You've done a great job here and I am not going to be greedy and wonder if you are going to translate more pansori. If you do, I will be eternally grateful, but that you have done this much is something awesome.

ERic Guerrero Ah you mean you visited Korea House in Chungmuro, right? I also saw the Korea Sim Cheong performance, and I found it really amusing haha

This. This and Isolde's Liebestod. As sung by Jessye Norman. Just these two pieces of art among all the music in the universe. 😭😭😭😭😭

PANSORI get deeeeeep into ones heart and soul
I love this - happy endings are the best
감사합니다. For the English subtitle.... Although I understand that the nuances ( meaning )of the Korean language are not brought out in the English translation.. Still it was very moving.
Sou brasileiro e não falo nenhuma palavra em coreano mas as emoções são universais. Décima vez que vejo!

I was sat here realy disappointed I'm not at the level with my Korean where I could understand this, luckily I looked in the comments to try to find what the story was about and discovered there are subtitles !!!! but from the small part, I have seen already I am very intrigued, I wish my acting was this incredible that people could understand even if they don't understand my language!!
Amazing! Agonisingly amazing! Then, joyfully interesting. Roller coaster of emotions. Amazing.
Love pansori
Thank you for the explanation of Changgeuk
So emotional 😄 it's beautiful
I'm watching this at a cafeteria and I'm holding my tears...
Wow! I love 京劇 and traditional arts from all over the world, this short pansori moved me to tears , even if there would have not been a translation in the video I would have been moved o tears.... I wonder why I got to know about pansori so late ....
Interesting, thanks for sharing
This made me cry wtf
Oooo my God that was 😥😥
Very emotional.. superb performance.. thank you for this!
My dad lost his sight completely due to type 2 diabetes. I wished everyday he could regain his vision to see his granddaughter and me, this song brought me to tears..
Beautifully, intense :)
The english language cannot possibly express the nuance and elegance of the Korean Language, especially since it's more of an older Korean style. I mean, it's with all languages really.

Not only older style - it's an older regional style from the Jeollado region (there are some linguistic traits that betray its Jeollado origins), where the cities of Jeonju and Naju are situated.
