Morse is Morse and what an amazing portrayal in the most incredible actor in Shaun Evans. I so miss the series!

Just watched the final episode of season 8. It felt so dark and scary-and for the most part, I had no Inspector Morse to turn to for answers. Every character's demons were chasing them--hard. Thanks, PBS and Masterpiece for bringing Endeavour to us.

Never thought they could find an actor as good as Thaw to play Morse, but they did with Evans.

From what I have read Thaw had quite a history of alcoholism. A tragedy as such an excellent along side Evans.

neil pearson played morse on the radio a couple of times not half bad i thought and john sharpenl played him on the radio too i thought he was okay

It's sadly what killed him in the end, heart finally gave out due to severe effects of alcoholism.

Endeavor losing his mother and then living with his father and awful step mum impacted his personality. As a grandmother, that touches me deeply.

But I don't know if either she or Thursday were aware of how much he loved Joan, and she him. Incredibly sad how it worked out, but now feel maybe it had to be like that to keep their love so strong and in the heart, and their souls.

Jamas he visto unos actores tan maravillosos e impecables en su interpretacion, sus gestos, expresiones, actitudes, miradas, silencios... hablan por si solos. Lo expresan todo. Una serie absolutamente Maravillosa, Excelente, inteligente, sagaz, espectaculares su luz, fotografia, encuadres, paisajes, argumentos, impactantes dialogos, con algunas frases inolvidables, y, la musica maravillosamente seleccionada y creada que tiene el sabor de la epoca, y la belleza de la musica clasica, tan bien seleccionada en cada imagen. Los personajes son increiblemente maravillosos, la fuerza que transmiten, su evolucion capitulo a capitulo. A veces me dejan impactada sus dialogos y actitudes. Termina el capitulo y me quedo sobrecogida, por todo lo que transmiten, Valor, Honor, Companerismo, Incorruptibilidad, Profundidad...tantos valores que se van perdiendo... la puesta en escena es absolutamente increible, la ambientacion. Asi era la vida en los anos 70. El entorno familiar, serio, adusto, se hablaba poco, poca comunicacion. Asi crecimos, silenciosos, solitarios, independientes y maduros intentando cambiar el mundo a mejor. Refleja tan bien la vida de aquella epoca! Adoro los personajes de Morse taciturno y solitario pero tremendamente inteligente y luchador, y la Gran interpretacion de Roger Allam, el Inspector sabio, protector, realista, asi como el Leal Strange, y el incorruptible Jefe Brigth, sin olvidar al Agudo Forense y demas companeros de reparto. Un Equipo de primera!!👏👏👏 Es una serie Epica, de Culto y tremendamente Bella, Romantica, llena de sutileza, de silencios, de ambiente...Belleza en las imagenes, delicadeza...a pesar de la dureza de sus argumentos, existe el decoro, de no mostrar imagenes desagradables de los asesinatos, y eso, es muy encomiable. Estamos viendola en Espana, los ultimos capitulos. Es la primera vez que veo la Serie y estoy deseando vuelvan a reponerla. Dia tras dia, espero con ansia la hora de ver el capitulo No quiero que termine. Por favor, sigan con ella, y con estos maravillosos Actores, impecables y profundos. Es un placer increible ver su trabajo, y escucharles en ingles, con esa maravillosa diccion y voces, sus gestos y expresiones, es un Regalo🎁 Por favor, sigan con ella, hay demasiada basura televisiva. Thank you for the beautiful comment 👏👍! It's a perfect description of everyone on the show and that includes the wonderful Russell Lewis who wrote every episode and everyone else behind the scenes. I know it's 11 months after your comment so I hope you get this. If you haven't watched "Inspector Morse" or "Inspector Lewis" I encourage you to. "Endeavour" is my favourite, the Lewis then Morse. If you don't already know, John Thaw plays Morse and he died 18 months after the show went off of the air which was in 2000. His daughter, Abigail, plays Dorothea Feazil in "Endeavour"and she looks just like him. Not everyone likes Morse, but I do and loved Thaw as the older Morse. If you read this and you want to let me know if you've seen them and what you think I would appreciate it. I always like discussing these series and am reading my first "Inspector Morse" book entitled "Last Bus to Woodstock" and am enjoying it. Take care ✌️

Preach. "Dallas" scrapped the canon, "Newhart" scrapped the canon.

I recently saw a picture of Sean Rigby with a beard and WOW! He looks hot! I've recently watched all of the "Inspector Morse" episodes and I don't think Sean gets enough credit for portraying the young 'Jim Strange' as well as he does. I can tell that Sean studied the late actor, James Grout's portrayal of the older Jim a lot and he even sounds like him occasionally and mimics his movements and his responses so well. If you've never noticed then check James' performance in Morse and you'll be able to tell.

Season 8 only 3 episodes. So glad I started watching Korean dramas where most seasons are at least 16-20 episodes with beautiful clothes and furnishings and elaborate settings

Endeavor, Sherlock, Inspector Lewis ... sadly there are no characters, no writing, no shows that can compare. Without them, tv is pure drivel.

if morse ever worked in midsomer and worked with tom barnaby he would probably call cully "miss barnaby" like he does with joan calling her "miss thursday".

I’ve watched every episode - some twice but I think I’ll have to watch episode 3 at least four rimes to make heads or tails of it! I have low vision problems & everything was so dark - it was so confusing for me. I have an iPad so I can brighten up the screen somewhat & lighten it up a little, but the plot eluded me. I’m a big fan but thought the third one was “strange”. No pun intended. Anyone else?

I thought it was dreadful, with cliches such as the band of “strangers” trapped in a snowstorm in an abandoned house, the unbelievable discovery of a generator which starts right up, the frightening costumes and on and on. I love this series but this episode was not up to standard. All of this was done better and with charm in Murder on the Orient Express.

@@dsquared1950 this was so bad it was laughable. Hotel closed for 6 yrs complete with table decorations, fully stocked bar, etc etc........Inspector Morse would be embarrassed!

It's where he is crossing over into his older self, the light has gone from him, and alcohol is beginning to win

It's gonna have to be Joan to drag him outta that dark place he's in and he's gonna hate it and maybe even hate her.

In the books Morse was born in 1930, 47 in the first book, and passed away in 2000 at age 70, as Colin Dexter stated. On television Morse was 47 and born in 1938. John Thaw was 45 in 1987 when the series started. Morse being 47 meant that the (1987) series took place in 1979. So, on television, Morse died in 2000 at the age of 62. He "outlived" John Thaw who died in 2002 at age 60.

They put the subtitles in English for us who are hard of hearing or deaf. I agree they should also be available in Spanish and a variety of other languages.

Endeavour felt a real passion for Violeta. So glad they didn’t do the cliche hook up with Joan. Joan and Endeavour are more like sister and brother. Endeavour, like Morse, is socially awkward even though he keeps trying. But he never married and he has personal regrets

Not really. Joan and Morse want each other.

i think joan being killed off seems to carry more weight than her marrying strange to be honest and it would tie in properly with the reason why neither fred or joan are mentioned in the old show

Yes, but it wouldn't tie in with "Inspector Morse" because in that show Jim Strange is now Chief Superintendent over Morse and Joan is mentioned a couple of times, but never seen. They weren't able to kill her off even if they wanted to.

@@peterburke3944 he appeared in quite a few episodes and no they didn't say her name, but they did mention a "Mrs. Strange" a couple of times and Morse asked about her at those moments.
