The "What If" Fantasy scene between Morse and Joan at the wedding reception sums up his true feelings for her and was touching. From the "Inspector Morse" series with John Thaw we already knew that they would not have married. "Endeavour" was a phenomenal success and a Masterpiece!

I saw the series finale on Sunday night and I'm still thinking about it, three days later. I even started re-watching Endeavour from the pilot onward.

I've watched Endeavour 3 times, twice this year. It seems to get better with each watching.

Endeavour. Just as everything has a beginning and an end. All that remains is to say "Thank you for the opportunity to experience you".

Simply put, this was a brilliant series. Every aspect (writing, acting, directing, the beauty of Oxford….). As Americans, we were unfamiliar with the Inspector Morse series. We are grateful for this marvelous introduction.

Love this series and all the actors, I will miss it terribly...

One of my absolute favorites! So sad to see it come to a close but I'm sure the actors want to pursue other opportunities; top notch cast, filming and music (sigh....will miss Endeavaor)

i know i feel there was so much of morse's story that wasnt told such as him working with mcnutt and his niece maralyn being born

Problem was we all already know he never married 😢.

Joan and Morse, sad and whenever there is a chance for them, something comes up ,and they always never get that moment . Missing Morse, and the gang . I am re.watching the last series again.🎉

Morse would never have been good for Joan in the end. This has been lovely and it is a reflection of all the hard work and just absolute class of all the players… but especially Sean. Thank you. Xxxxx

Joanie looks beautiful. Since Morse is single . . . I'm available and love traveling back in time.

all that will they wont they crap didnt help either and that bloody dream sequence to me felt like a cheap shot i'm surprised they didnt use that in earlier episodes

In nine years, Morse and Joan have never done anything significant together to get to know each other. So they have no way of knowing whether a viable, lasting relationship would have been possible. In any case, from my point of view, a woman like Joan (nice, pretty, extroverted, superficial, dominant) would not have been a suitable partner for the intelligent, sensitive, introverted Morse. In any case, she would not have been able to free him from his extreme inner loneliness.

i'll have to disagree with you a bit on that introverts do marry extroverts they seem unlikely at first but opposites do attract the writers could have and should of made more of an effort with morse and joan by giving them a try as a couple or write an alternate universe episode showing morse marrying joan it sounds like a stretch i know but parallel episodes in tv shows and films have been done before

Great skill from those who subsumed their normal accents. An excellent programme but unfortunately all good things end eventually.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to accept that the brilliant young Inspector Morse from the Endeavour series ended up becoming the pathetic Inspector Morse, in his fifties, obsessed with crossword puzzles, drinking beer and begging for the love of the women he meets in the cases he investigates. I hope that, in a few years, someone decide to produce a new series, halfway between Endeavour and Inspector Morse, where we can see a new Endeavour a little more mature, but still young and bright. And although they can create new characters, in that new series there must also be present the character of Joan Thursday. And for Joan to have an extramarital affair with Morse. They owe it to me and to the thousands of fans who have followed this magnificent series.

i think they should have made this wedding morse's sister joyce's wedding instead of joan and jim coz i feel the show should have done a storyline on joyce marrying

the wedding was beautiful but im still not 100% bought by strange and joan together. i always saw them more as buddies, almost brother and sister. Plus it seems even more painful that it's to be morse's best friend marrying the love of morse's life. russell lewis really punched us in the guts with that one. 💔
