End The War On Trans People

Enough. As the Tory government shuts down the democratic decision of the Scottish Parliament to expand trans rights, it's time to wake up to a gruesome reality. One of the most vulnerable minorities is being subjected to the exact same hate campaign gay and bi people faced in the 1980s and 1990s. You either have the courage to be on the right side of history - or you can stand back and allow an oppressed community to suffer unnecessary pain and fear. Here's the argument for trans rights - and why the opponents are going to be judged just as harshly as homophobes were.

Utter rubbish. As Trans is obviously something that exists Cis must exist. Even were there not a quarter century of biological science showing that Trans is a biological phenomenon and 112 years of medical research it would exist as a cultural phenomenon which would make Cis exist. Cis as a prefix is thousands of years old predating the English language. NASA sent Astronauts across Cislunar Space into Cislunar and Translunar Orbits during the moon missions, Cis is a standard part of Latin-derived English used in scientific terminology. It’s literally impossible for Cis not to exist unless you get a Time Machine and go back and stop either Magnus Hirschfeld from coining then terminology regarding Trans and it’s acceptance by the medical world last century or go back further and stop Latin from becoming used in science across the western civilisations or go back further yet and stop Cis and Trans from being opposite in the development of Latin. But even if you did all that there would still be development of terms for being Trans and being Cis they’d just be different words. Anyone not Trans is automatically Cis just like anyone not Intersex is automatically Endosex and anyone not Autistic is automatically Allistic. That’s how language and logic works. Cope.

The fact that you are self-conscious and able to make statements about yourself proves you have a self-image, or sense of self. Otherwise you'd be an inanimate object. Mind you, it's hard to tell the difference between anti-trans bots and inanimate objects as they show similar degrees of self-awareness. As far as birth certificates are concerned, and in colloquial English, sex and gender mean pretty much the same thing, so that's a totally bogus argument. I don't believe you're gay, though. If you really were gay, you'd accept trans folk simply because you would understand where they're coming from - their sexuality is between their ears, like yours. Owen, I follow your videos and articles closely, and have done so for a long time. I occasionally disagree with you (eg. on republicanism) but that's rare. This is, in my opinion, your most important and compelling contribution to the cause of social justice and equality for all in the face of hateful prejudice. It is also a stark lesson in how our current "government" abuses its democratic powers to satisfy the whim of a powerful minority of ignorant bigots. Evil bigots, infact, because their prejudices are rooted in the horrors of the past, including the persecution of innocent victims forced to wear pink triangles. And as you say, these inhumane people will, as sure as night follows day, lose their horrific argument, and decent fair minded people will eventually walk straight past their graves without mourning their loss. So, Dr Owen, thank you for this brilliant and eloquent exposition. I implore everyone to share it as widely as possible, and hope that you publish its essence in one of your excellent articles. Outstanding. 👏

I grew up a bit earlier than you. I am straight, was born into and moved in mainstream middle class. And I grew up with same sex couples in the wider social circle of my parents and absolutely nobody raised an eyebrow when they held hands or kissed in public. In retrospect and looking back the difference of today and those same sex couples I grew up with when my parents had parties or dinner invitations or spontaneous visits... They didn't make it their one and only identity trait. It was one aspect of their lives and not the only thing they talked about. It just was how they were born and didn't require a discussion. It was just like you see a heterosexual couple kissing or holding hands. I am sorry you didn't grow up that way. I have zero issues with gay people. Transgender is different. I am fed up with this whole public discussion. To my understanding transition was possible and done decades ago. To my understanding there always was and always will be a very small percentage of people who feel like they are the opposite sex. There are old people now who transitioned in their youth. I am fed up though that minors have access to these procedures and treatments. Minors can't consent. I am fed up that a small minority tries to tell the majority of society what language can be used. I am fed up with playing charade that they really are the opposite sex only because they went through the transition. I will always treat an individual with respect but I expect that individual to be aware that there are biological differences, still. Like, a transman won't have an inflamed prostate, ever. A transwoman will never have period cramps. It follows that no, transwomen can't play on women sports teams. Sorry not sorry. There are realities that can't be denied and climate right now denies these realities. I am fed up with playing pretend. There is no war on transgender. You do you. I do me. We can get along just fine if we can agree on reality. But please back off a little. In my country we have universal healthcare and I gladly see my financial contributions directed towards transitions and the resulting life long medical treatment of someone who needs it. That's what a society is about. But a society demands integration. Stop trying to force the whole society at large to deny biological facts, use specific language, give you access to spaces where you don't compete on fair grounds, like sports. Instead of asking what a society should do for you start asking what you can do for society.

For reference, other males in prison are significantly less likely (18%) to be sex offenders." A male is not an adult human female, which is the definition of "woman". "Trans women" are not a subcategory of women, they are a subcategory of men, as every single "trans woman" is MALE. It's not about stereotypes? Then what are these essential "womanly feelings" that men can have by which they "know they are women"? You must be able to articulate something that isn't simultaneously a sexist stereotype if it's so obvious. A woman doesn't need to wear a dress to "be a woman", so why do so many male "trans women" emphasise their desire to wear dresses and cite their excitement with wearing women's clothes as one of the core reasons they "knew they were trans"? The use of puberty blockers is ethical (they are used on early onset puberty after all) and as the vast vast majority go on to transition in adulthood regardless (as shown in all the studies once Steensma’s methodological error was fixed) means that hormonal transition at puberty would not be immoral. The post-pubertal transition is effective, reducing suicide (don’t fall for McHugh’s misrepresentation of Dhejne’s study!) and while retaining some degree of androgyny that’s found in women with PCOS and Intersex people anyway. The sky is falling routine might have been reasonable more than 30 years ago before any part of the world tried this, after more than 30 years to claim the sky fell elsewhere and nothing bad happened but if it falls in the UK all the bad things that never happened anywhere else will suddenly happen is ludicrous. As for safety Trans women face 2-3 times the rate of sexual assault that Cis women face. In the USA a study of over 3,000 teens showed that Trans teens in schools with Trans-inclusive policies face a rate of being sexually assaulted of 26% almost double Cis girls 15% but with the anti-Trans amenities you want the Trans teens rate leaps up to 36% and that’s assaults in a 12 month period. 1 in 3 sexually assaulted in one single year! Being male or female is not about psychology, it’s about biological physical reality! This is the crux of this issue. Women are at a distinct physical disadvantage to men. That is why this issue provokes a much stronger response from women. Trans men are no threat to cis men - not in sports not in public bathrooms not in prisons not anywhere. But men, cis or trans are always a potential threat to women. I guess most men and trans women just can’t understand that threat. But that is why the current push for trans women to be accepted in all Women’s spaces can never be justified. Look at criminal statistics. They are real life. Women and children are at risk from people born male. Reality matters!

Trans women are therefore biologically different to men. Particularly when the genes involve the androgen receptor and androgen production reducing masculinisation at a cellular and endocrinological level reducing muscle strength and muscle mass and bone density compared to men even before hormone treatment or surgery. So the biological science argument goes against your conclusion. That Trans women face 2-3 times the rate of being sexually assaulted than Cis women do further goes against your conclusion. Thanks for this. And it’s great to hear your story about how you wished you were desperate not to be gay. My two gay sons haven’t really had to go through that as they’re both in their twenties and a lot of this has gone away - not all but a lot of it. A wonderful message towards the end Owen. I sadly expect this level of hatred from conservatives but Sir Keir Starmers pathetic weak response of the SNP using transgender rights as a political football. My dad was a Union shop steward I can get used to a Sir leading the Labour party. Scots call Labour the red Tories for a reason. I also want to make a point MP's of the Alba party who supposedly want Scottish independence cheered the Westminster government blocking the Scottish parliament decision on the GRA. Joanna Cherry lesbian SNP MP is very Anti Transgender I can't get my head round that. I am a member of the SNP. Assuming that your absurd picture of society reflects reality, do you went transgender men being put in women's shelters? Since they're apparently "biological women" according to you, even though they are on testosterone which alters the physiology of their body. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about that, since nothing about this amendment in Scotland has anything to do with women's shelters at all. It just makes it easier to change the M to an F and vice versa on your legal certificates. If you are early in your transition, women's spaces will make a determination on a case-by-case basis as they have done for decades, and which has nothing to do with the law or gender recognition act. Same goes for things like bathrooms, which trans women have been using without incident for decades also. So spare the "Won't someone think of the women and the children!" moral panic rhetorical since its a false conflict set up to turn people against each other to distract us all from how the tories keep eroding our living standards day by day. Most women are supportive of human rights for trans people.

A woman, is an adult human female, it is not an "identity" or a feeling, dress, attitude etc., that whole line of thinking is regressive in the extreme. Claiming there is some "essence" to "womanhood" that also males can access, but the reality is that women do not have to look or act any certain way, or act out some ludicrously sexist idea of the “social role of a woman”, all females who reach adulthood are women regardless of how they feel or look, and the one thing they ALL have in common, the one experience they ALL share, is that they are FEMALE, they do not have to "identify" as anything, they physically ARE women because they are female. Why should MALES be allowed access to SINGLE-SEX spaces reserved for FEMALES based on their "gender identity"? If sex and gender are separate, then a male announcing his "gender identity" is "trans woman" does nothing to change their sex, they are still MALE - so why should they be afforded rights reserved for the opposite SEX? The movement is regressively sexist, and misogynistic. Why do you believe females do not deserve any spaces free of males? What is hateful about upholding female sex-based rights that were fought long and hard for? Believing sexist stereotypes define men and women, instead of their biological sex, is unquestionably sexist to the core, because you are saying men and women are not actually free to behave however they want but need to conform to these sexist stereotypes in order to be men or women - if you say no they don't have to act any sort of way as a man or woman, and being a man or woman has nothing to do with biology - then what are you describing by calling someone a man or woman? If you think it doesn't describe biology, and doesn't describe anything about their looks or behaviour, then what on earth are you basing defining anyone as a man or woman on??? Why would a man need to become a "trans woman" in order to be their "authentic selves", why can't they just be a very feminine man and dress/act however they want? If trans ideology isn't sexist, then why would a man ever need to "transition" if either sex is completely free to act however they want? How can you claim to be opposing sexism when the whole basis for anyone feeling the need to transition, literally is sexism? How is gender identity" any different from what sexist stereotypes a person feels drawn to? Or simply their PERSONALITY? And, if sex and gender are separate, then why should "transitioning gender" allow MALES into FEMALE-ONLY spaces, they never changed, nor can they change, their sex. Pretending you're a heterosexual member of the sex you were assigned at birth to escape bigotry is understandable. Pretending to be trans to escape bigotry makes no sense whatsoever.
