One thing I'm also noticing, is that Felix never tells her to 'calm down'; He will say things like 'you're ruining the flowers' or 'you'll get Antonio wet'. But unlike the Grandmother, he's not telling her not to feel these emotion's. He's just highlighting the effects her emotions are having to the things and people around her. This way's she could maybe decide if she'd like to continue ranting...but possibly go outside instead of doing it in the house or so close to their son. Felix is such a good husband/dad

Pepa is such an interesting character in the movie because her “gift” is the only one that truly seems more like a curse. While it can be useful, it just seems to cause issues most of the time and is something she literally can’t turn off (even Bruno can just choose to not use his gift again). She’s miserable from having to constantly bottle up her emotions and while all seems well at the end, realistically her keeping her gift seems like a lot worse of a fate then losing it. If I was Mirabel I would have been happy to not have a gift as opposed to getting Pepa’s.

I feel like Dolores gift is just as bad, only difference being peppas gift can affect other people. She can hear EVERYTHING. ALWAYS. She hears Luisa’s eye twitch on the other side of town which means SHE CAN HEAR EYE MOVEMENTS….from everyone in town. She can hear what anyone and everyone in town is doing at any time and she cant turn it off, sounds that are just ‘loud’ to people cause her physical pain. She could hear Bruno in the walls, conversations in the house, ANYTHING. Her gift is kinda awful except in niche scenarios

I'd imagine that the tempestuousness of her cloud is as a direct result of supressing it, though. It's -- like how clouds work in real life, right? They get heavy until they reach a breaking point, then there's a downpour. I think if she's expressing her emotions, they'll become more manageable over time and the weather she makes more mild. There'll still be storms and scorching days, for sure, but that's a part of nature.

Can we talk about how good and cute husband Felix is? He is always with Pepa, trying to calm her down or make her happy, and not speaking directly that she has a cloud on her head, which seems to get worse and is often said by the Abuela. But he talks to her calmly or tries to help her however he is, he is very cute.

Saw a comment that Julietta and Augustin also are a perfect match cause he is accident prone and she heals and that's probably how they met. @@peppocket7683 I would say it's the tie between the two but in different ways. Luisa had all the physical, palpable pressure. But if she is grumpy, or sad, nothing will happen. I mean, she might feel like she is letting people down if she is grumpy about the responsibilities put upon her but, let's say that something random happens. Like, she spills something and gets annoyed. I don't think anyone would have a negative reaction to this. On the other hand, Pepa CAN'T get annoyed when she spills something because, oh, well, now it's raining inside!

Everyone relies on her to do tasks and the idea of failing others would make her feel like a failure. However, Pepa have to constantly struggle controlling how she feels for the sake of not affecting the weather would could affect everyone around her. In addition, Bruno was shunned for his gift as they associated him and his future readings as bad to the point he hid away just to make others happy. In addition, Mirabel does everything she can without a power to help her family and town to be cast aside in the beginning of the movie. I feel like so many is going through their own struggles and it's hard to try to say this person is going through more than the other.

Most of this is because Abuela had no one to ask her if she was alright, especially after losing her husband and being left alone to raise 3 babies all on her own. With no support, other than the miracle. This affected her and is why she is super stubborn and a little hard on her children.

Even though all of their gifts are metaphors for something, Abuela telling Pepa to calm down isn't bad. Her mood swings are dangerous and affect everyone. I like you’re interpretation of it, but she was actually covering her ears because the walls and floors of the house were cracking and it was hurting her ears. I’m sure the thunder didn’t help though!

I feel like Pepa is the only one who would've definitely been better off losing her powers for good. She could be a great protector for the family if she gained more control but there's no villains in this movie so she's only an emotionally repressed and neurotic woman whose condition is only made worse by her abilities. Imagine being upset and always getting rained on or being in the center of a hurricane. And it seems her powers are *only* tied to her emotions, so pulling an Elsa probably would do more harm than good in the long run and even if she had to protect her family from someone, she'd have to be in a horrible mental state to do it. Pepa is one of the most tragic characters in this film, if not the most. Imagine endangering your family and/or village because you stubbed your toe.

Maybe the downside to Julieta’s gift is is that her food can’t save everyone and she struggles with guilt over the “patients” she loses? She might berate herself for not getting to a gravely injured person in time to heal them, or for not being able to cure serious diseases with her cooking.

@@katm8128 I was just trying to understand the process... when she's calm it's clear skies and sunny. When she's worried she rains, when she's scared she is thundery, and when she's scared and anxious she gets to the point of being snowy... so what does it mean that she was haily all happy? Edit: nevermind. It's obvious that by the end of the movie, she's in a state of mind where she's able to control her powers and her powers are not controlling her. So that fact that she's hailing doesn't reflect her emotions, just that she is able to do it.

I love how much emotion she has in her voice even as she tries to keep her emotions to a minimum: the way she goes ‘shoo shoo!’ as she literally pushes her negative emotions away. Also Felix is so amazing, trying to help her feel better so she can naturally remove the cloud and supporting her. I love her emotion ‘I’M DOING MY BEST YOU’RE LUCKY IT ISN’T A HURRICANE!’

I think there's a big distinction from Pepa "controlling" the weather, Mira says "her mood affects the weather", so it's probable she probably won't ever be able to control it. She can try to repress it, sure, but if she feels an emotion, something will happen.

Fun Fact: Pepa was always told that rain and thunder was bad and that sunny meant happy, so at her wedding, Bruno told her that it was going to rain. But that didn’t have to mean it was bad or anything. He was trying to teach her that it wasn’t a bad thing. So she’s hailing at the end of the movie because she learned that storms don't *have* to mean negative emotions. :)

Pepa surely has bad luck with such a gift but it's an amazing effect to show the audience how very emotional people struggle with themselves, especially when they're forced to bottle everything up and only being allowed to express happiness. Respect to Felix for being such an empathetic and patient husband. And you have to give Pepa credit that she isn't afraid to talk back to Abuela and doesn't lash out on innocent family members.

When everybody lost their powers I bet pepa was probably happy xD

I say Pepa is tied with Dolores for worst gift. Dolores hears everything and has to keep it all to herself. You can see anytime there is a loud sound such as cheering, shouting, fireworks etc she covers her ears as imagine being able to hear a pin drop and then imagine how painful fireworks or cheering or loud noises would be. I'm surprised she is as chill and calm as she is

I love Pepa, above all when she argues with the cloud. 😂

Let’s talk about how Isabela’s flowers calmed Pepa down. It’s like the flowers that bloom after rain lol. Pepa stresses about having perfect events and what makes an event more perfect than a bunch of flowers as decoration? And these might be one of the reasons why Isabela is Abuela’s favorite. It’s her job to keep everyone in the town happy. P.s. It must be stressful for Pepa to always suppress her emotions and I know some people complain about the frozen reference but it’s a good parallel. She needs to allow herself to let go and be a little emotional sometimes.

I honestly think Pepa is ONE of the most or if not, the most powerful Madrigal.

I love how happy Felix is when Pepa finally expresses her emotions and gains control over her gift. His little "yeah!" when she creates a hail storm under her own agency, always brings a smile to my face.

I know it’s subtle, it’s so sweet seeing how Felix not only takes care of Pepa, but also how he tries to help her relax but not force it, and stands up for her when she feels judged by how she feels

It kinda sucks abuela was like "you have a cloud!" As if she isn't always stressing that she's ruining the day with her power. Like she most definitely knows she can hinder the people around her and she's probably super self conscious of it because everyone is technically in her business

Pepa it's a clearly "all my anxious fellas out there let me hear you say HELL YEAHH" character, and i'm living for her 👏

I don't think anyone talks about how good Pepas voice is in we don't talk about Bruno. Poor girl deserves justice😔😔

I love how she's dancing in the hail at the end. It shows that she's still a bit hurt, but, is happy that she's free to feel it. No more constant "clear skys".

I just noticed that Felix and Augustin married into the family and took their wives' last names. True Kings indeed.💛💙💚💜

since her gift is "emotions affecting the weather" id like to think that the cloud is usually just above her because shes keeping it (her emotions) to herself unlike during the dinner she lost control and made a big cloud ,, shows that shes actually calm on her standards

She low-key reminds me of Raven from the teen titans who also has to control her emotions. They're kind of opposites though since Raven adapted by becoming basically emotionless while Pepa just represses everything.

One of the embodiments of toxic perfectionism. It can be anyone, male or female, that does everything to make sure everything else is perfect, which is unreachable and unrealistic. Such behavior is sadly pushed by others. In this character's case, her mother. Proof that these magical gifts are actually curses and Mirabel is the truly lucky one.

Ok, fr I feel so bad for this poor woman. Just LOOK at those bags under her eyes! The poor thing is under constant pressure to stay calm otherwise BOOM! Storm or hurricane. As someone who also struggles with stress I feel your pain Pepa. I feel your pain.

@@rein9e eyelids are not under your eyes... During 0:40 - 0:50 you can see the bags under her eyes, and since she controls the weather I dont think makeup is recommended for her(she gets emotional outburst easily, shell easily get her makeup ruined if she wasnt feeling okay)

I feel awful for her because she probably wasn't allow to feel anything but happy and peaceful or else she would be made to feel ashamed and guilty of the 'bad weather' she would bring, while also bieng told to stand out in fields and be sad so they get rain, like her emotions weren't hers, she had to change how she was feeling at any given time to suit the needs of those around her.

I like that Pepa is giving Abuela flack for telling her to calm down long before the rest are fed up with her expectations.

WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT FELIX GOING "YEAH AMOR" AT THE END WHEN PEPA CAN FINALLY FEEL WHATEVER SHE WANTS!? I FIND THAT SO BEAUTIFUL LIKE- WHERE DO I GET MYSELF A MAN LIKE HIM?!

Anyone else notice how PERFECT the couples/parents are? Like- Felix always calms down Pepa when she is stressed/not happy. And Agustin is always getting hurt or sumn and then Julieta just heals him with her gift

well, I think it was to be expected, you cannot marry someone and their gift if you are not willing to expect the worst of their gift

Pepa is so relatable for me, especially with my DID and anxiety like trying to keep it all together and having a caring husband who grounds me like how Felix does for Pepa, it's refreshing seeing emotions being presented like this, especially for a children's standpoint because they can relate also to the cloud being anger or stress, rain as being upset or hurt, clear skies as calm and rainbows as happiness

Ah! I just watched this and thought about how she was relatable to me and you got it-! I personally feel a lot of the Madrigals are symbolic of something else, like I feel Dolores represents sensory issues, and Camilo could be- open to interpretation, but thats what I love about this movie

What really gets me is that they blamed Mirabel when they ALL literally played telephone passing the message down like Felix did not have to tell Pepa until afterwards

1:20 I love that felix is whacking the cloud, he always lets poor pepa feel her emotions while trying to help deal with the weather instead of soured sing the emotions themselves

Can we appreciate Felix for never gaslighting her negative emotion like everyone else (mostly alma) do? We can particularly see it in the last song all of you when Bruno says "Let it in, let it out, let it rain, let it snow, let it go" and felix reply "that's what I'm always saying". Felix doesn't want her to suppress her feelings just because they cause bad weather she wants her to let it all out and he wants to be there with her while she does that. He doesn't care about the wedding being "ruined" by the hurricane because in his opinion it wasn't ruined at all because it still was a "joyous day" since they still got to marry even if it wasn't in normal conditions he probably thinks that day was the best day of his life (maybe just after the birthday of his kids but I'm not sure) because he got to be with the person he loves, even if at her worst. Felix LOVES so much Pepa even knowing what her emotions causes and she wants her to express them just like everyone else! She loves her at her best but most importantly she loves her at her worst. They're dinamic it's cute. The only problem about Pepa constant need of reassurance is that sometimes hers kid has to reassure her (like we see in the scene with Camilo trying to reassure her and getting shook by her) it's not healthy for a kid to be the "parent's therapist" I'm not a psychologist and i do not study psychology so i could be wrong but i saw a few people talking about it, I'm not going to go into the details because I don't wanna cause misinformation but i think y'all understand my point

I’m really interested in the triplets childhoods. Bruno and Pepa seem to have it rough judging by their anxiety and the way they cope. Julieta had a gift that didn’t seem to make her so anxious compare to her siblings. I really wanna know what they endure as a kid because I can imagine a lot of pressure and bullying. (Side note: I headcannon Pepa is autistic and kind of on board with the OCD Bruno thing.) One month later edit: I don't like OCD Headcanon anymore

i think with Julieta she really wanted to help others and since anything she cooks heals people, she didn't really need to perfect her powers unlike pepa or bruno. So most likely that took the heat off of her. the only thing is she probably still just perfected her cooking skills over time (yes she can heal with anything she cooks but i would assume that she at least wanted things to still taste good since it is still food)

I feel like the temporary lost of her gift was the best she ever felt as she was able to express how she felt without worrying about those around her

I also love how at the end of the movie pepa is hailing. Meaning her happy ending isn’t “clear skies” forever, but that she can finally accept and experience her own emotions without fear of consequence.

Felix needs more attention. His interaction with Pepa is too cute to look at.

Her eyes always looks so tired. It's probably because the only emotion she's only allowed to show is happiness, because if she were to feel anything else they tell her to immediately calm down. Which is so unfair that she can't fully express how she feels as long as it doesn't (literally) rain on other peoples parades. You can see her crack throughout the film, she's progressively getting tired being told to put her rain cloud away. Pepa is just tired of always getting rid of her clouds and only making rainbows.

the last scene when she’s hailing and Félix is encouraging/hyping her up to continue showing her true feelings without worrying if she has a cloud or not 😭💖

She probably had Delores roughly after she got married (assuming that she was in her late 20's-early 30's when she got married at the time and Delores was her eldest,so..?),although a few months AFTER her sister Julieta had her daughter/her niece Isabella,though-Let's say,29-30 years old,approx.,by the time Delores came around.... Camilo,her second-eldest,on the other hand-Going by Delores' and camilo's respective ages (22 and 15,respectively-so.),Camilo would've been born by the time Delores was 7,whereas Pepa was probably 34-35 years old,tops,by that time,approximately-so.. Give or take-Delores/Pepa age difference: 28 years,while Camilo/Pepa age difference: 35 years,respectfully.. And to-on by this age differentiation/surprise of the main commenter above of how Antonio is 5 years old,while pepa is fifty/50 years old,assuming that she was 45 when she had him,so...?

That's a sweet thing to notice! I think that for all her unhappiness, she's a genuinely caring wife and mother, and I'm glad they have each other.

People are saying Felix is always trying to calm her down but that's not true. Whenever he mentions the fact that she's making the weather act up it's never "stop making it rain" it's "You're making it rain, please be careful" Like when Antonio is preparing to walk to his door, he's not trying to get her to stop making it rain, but just to stand back so she doesn't get Antonio wet. That's also why he agrees with Bruno during "All of you" that Pepa should just let her emotions be emotions, instead of trying to be happy all of the time

Pepa's power matches her personality perfectly. Bless her, she is often caught in a storm within her own mind. I love the anxiety representation here, it's so accurate.

I love how one family wears Yellowish coloured clothes while the other one eats purple-pinkish ones. That helps to differentiate between different families and it’s such a cool design detail.

Felix is literally perfect ❤️❤️❤️ They make such a great couple! I think they weren’t naturally set up together and instead fell in love the normal way.

I love how Felix comforts her. You really know he accepts her for who she is and that's really sweet. ❤️

Pepa dancing in the granizada is the absolute best. She's finally able to express her emotions freely even if they're uncomfortable.

I love how Felix is always there by her side and being the most supportive one whenever she’s being emotional. I think we can all agree that Felix and Agustin are the best husbands here

When they've restored the miracle and they're reclaiming their gifts I noticed Papa made it rain but no thunder while she has no reason to be upset. Now that Bruno told her to embrace her emotions in his return, she now has full control over her abilities again. I love this film.

I love how in the end there is a hail cloud while she's happy, because she does't feel like she has to constrain it anymore:)

Something not everyone would know: the Spanish suffix -ito, or -ita means the subject is either tiny and cute or precious to the speaker so when Pepa says Tonito she's basically saying, "my sweet, precious little Tony," same with Casita.
