If they love the craft, they are probably happy to get a role where they can act freely. But let's be honest, this movie was obviously going to be a sucess from the get go so they were free to do whatever the fck they wanted anyway. And this is ryan gosling, pretty much the most handsome dude in theatre right now and if he was somehow unaware of that fact, he realised it when he was cast as ken, the literal prototype of the "perfect man".

yes but if i rememeber correctly, it was because it was nominated for best song or something similar. ...in the Barbie movie .... while the main song didn't get mentioned... they picked the song about Ken... So that's probably why Ryan looked shellshocked.

It is girl power, but it also refuses the traditional roles of power for both genders. The Kens find that they have to find their masculinity somewhere else other than patriarchy, and Barbie also rejects the artificial world where women are rulers to go into the real, mortal, flawed world where she can embrace her womanhood.

I was prepared for the song but not the context! I’m 30 year old single dude and I never imagined in a million years I would be a fan of a Barbie movie! It was the multiple Barbie’s/Kens, Margot Robbie’s first look at the 2022 CinemaCon, Ryan as Ken and the creativity behind the camera that sealed the deal for me. But when the Kens take over Barbieland, the plot thickens. I’ll give Greta Gerwig credit for subverting expectations with her direction and script!

I've realised this film has alot of similarities with RRR, it has an oppressed minority rising up, it has strong ho yay vibes between the two male leads, and a good song and dance number in it.
