It genuinely brings a tear to my eye that the trains of my childhood are disappearing. The EC sets have served us so well but all good things must come to an end. Glad you got a ride on one before they're gone.

Great vlog G! The HSTs are great. I've seen a few in cross country livery but not in EMR, so first for me. Love the interior of them as well as the slamming doors, the small toilet and of course the noise that they make. Looks like you had a cracking time, haha. What a way to send them off in style. 😀

Another excellent video, G 👍 I was on that HST working the following day, and then travelled on the other HST set back to St Pancras 2:29 I may have been on that class 700, as my going home train after an early shift was often overtaken by the HST in the Kentish Town area

Hi again Glovestrains. Great video!!!!!! I loved the HST's they were my dream loco when I first started train spotting in my younger days. 😀 As I'm 40 I've seen all the paint jobs the HST's have had in there day's, I especially loved the blue/yellow livery the best. I'm really going to miss the HST's 😭😭 they were the best!!!!!😀 But at least companies like, Cross Country, GWR, and ScotRail have still got a few at the moment, but for how long no-one knows. On another note, next time you visit Nottingham, take the bus up to a railway book/dvd shop called Booklaw (have a look online if you want first) it's an amazing little shop with a good selection of railway books and dvds for sale, it's a bit like the old Ian Allen bookshop that used to be in Manchester if you remember it? It was just five minutes walk out of Man Picc railway station. I used to spend hours in that shop, sadly it's now closed 😭 that's why I now go to Booklaw in Nottingham now. Anyway sorry for yet another ramble as usual lol 😂 Chat again soon my lovely, all the best from. Devon Boy Mike.

The HST is my favourite old train. They certainly are clean and comfy 🙂👍! The CrossCountry, Scotrail and GWR Castle HST's have powered electric doors and all DDA compliant 🙂.

Great presentation and editing, really enjoyed that. Mk3 stock offer the best ride comfort and interior space IMHO, and the newer plastic units will never come close.

I am going to miss the Class 43 Mk3s on East Midlands Railway. As well the Class 180 Adelante and Class 222 Meridian diesel units as EMR have ordered new Class 810 Aurora AT300 IETs. Plus they are also inheriting the Class 360/1s from Greater Anglia to be used on St. Pancras-Kettering and Corby and have been upgraded to 110mph (177km/h). Lovely video GlovesTrains. One thing to say -RIP EMR “Intercity 125”.

I love the video, I fancy trying that myself

Been on one of those when it was East Midlands Trains back in the day - add to that GWR and XC HSTs too, thankfully. LNER *might* be bringing them back temporarily whilst the Azumas get checked over, so you may be able to do Leeds-London on one. Keep an eye out!

Great video. I also made a special trip to have one last ride. My gps app showed the train hit 130mph on the way up (another passenger also recorded the same speed). Well impressed!!

first of all im going to take my hat off to you for making the trip south to London to ride on the most iconic train from my childhood i have tones of memories of those trains my first long distance ride on one was back in the 90s in intercity days in 1996 from Preston to Reading when i was still very young and still in school but within the last 10 years i used those trains in my local patch (GWR or First great western) mainly travelling from Reading to Swindon and Oxford and some journeys into London in 2014 i even spent a day in Cardiff as i rode from Reading to Cardiff central on a gwr hst and in 2016 i did my first proper staycation on a hst i travelled from Newbury (My home station) to Plymouth in devon 3 hours on a hst i remember the noise of those trains nosy on the outside and a nice smooth quiet ride on the inside and i do miss leaning out of the window to open the door to open the door im glad you enjoyed your first ever ride on a hst fantastic job on this vlog well done

Ive been on the Celebrity EMR 43274 & 43102 The Journey Shrinker when i went to the East Midlands on the last Thursday

The last HST I went on was back in 2018 and it was the first GWR set to be withdrawn from service.

You were in Nottingham! Aww man!

I remember my first HST from Padd to Reading back in 1982, one thing that stood out for me was when they braked the MK3 vestibules smelt like rotten eggs, MML...I did an HST from Derby to Kettering swapping from a Peak... would love to go back to the early 80's and get a 45 and MK2F's. Lovely to see the girlies enjoying the hobby, you should check out the 720's and 745's on the GEML London to Norwich line, get quite a bit of freight at Ipswich too.

Absolutely Brilliant Vlog GLovesTrains they are such a iconic train and will certainly be missed I’m hoping to see them pass though the London Area next week fingers crossed you certainly made me chuckle and cheered me up I remember them well hang on I wasn’t even born 😂😂 keep up the good work and until next time stay safe

I recommend you test the HSTs with the sliding doors instead of the slam doors, on Crosscountry or GWR. ScotRail has these also but I doubt you’d wanna travel all the way to Scotland.

6:55 i burst out laughing at the eruption 'squishy boobies' from the door window though ive never been on a HST train its probrably 1 old earas worth of locomotive traction i dont mind eventhough im more of a dirty steam person

Glad you got an HST in the book! True icons of the network and will be much missed, especially as some of their replacements aren't as comfortable! You'll love London, though given your experiences in Liverpool, you might find the Underground a bit unnerving!

By the way Cross Country, Great Western Railway and ScotRail still run HSTs, just sadly they don't have slidey windows and slammy doors. Plus the HSTs do go up to 125mph, not 110. There are speed boards on the line that say 110/HST 125. I went on an HST from Leicester to Nottingham and I'm sure we did 125 mph. It did the journey really quickly.

Awesome video wasn’t expecting that. It’s a shame it’s becoming rare to see them now. I want to go on cross country’s Hst. Hsts are one of my favourite trains but never been on one. They’ve probably got another 50 years inside them yet.

@@si002 Yes, Cross Country have a few 2+7 sets and GWR have sixteen 2+4 sets although both have sliding doors. Scot Rail also has some shorter sets but I am not too sure about their formations.

Scot rail, Arriva Cross Country and Great Western Railway are still running 125 High Speed Trains and they are going to remain in Service for a long time.

The Slamming Doors on these HSTs have now been replaced by electric plug door but they are still fun trains to travel on. I enjoy travelling on the HSTs.

They are very good trains Georgia, I'll probably be dispatching my last ever one soon 😂 not been on one for a while, must try to travel on one by the 15th, fingers crossed 🤞 🍀

Unfortunately Scotrail HST's don't have the slam doors they've been turn to the automatic doors

The funny thing is they actually look much younger than the Class 91, MK4 and DVT set even tho the class 43 is older. However nothing beats ye olde class 158.
