Emotional Fitness: Reflection of an Olympic Swimmer | Michael Jamieson | TEDxUniversityofStrathclyde

After a career in sports which featured great achievements as well as significant challenges, Michael shares some of his career lessons with the audience. Michael recently ‘transitioned’ out of competitive swimming after 10 years as a professional. He was very privileged to compete and win medals at two Commonwealth Games, European/World Championships and the Olympic Games. Michael‘s competitive career was cut short due to mental ill-health and this is something he has learned to take full responsibility for. Michael is passionate about promoting conversation around psychological health and particularly a personal duty of care in high pressure environments. Michael would be delighted to share some of his career lessons with the TEDxUniversityofStrathclyde audience. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

same as how ppl might think a cat is deaf i too remember being litte with my parents saying i was deaf behind my back as i ignored them playing barbies. Same as heather whitestone (miss america. Miss universe. Known for her voice singing. Legally deaf entire life) because even deaf ppl can hear things. Same as how u think ppl see ur brokenness michael?. Hiding it internally? Yet we see u unbroken. Olympian since birth is how we see u unbroken. ❤ Allianz is pronounced volunteer. Any employee or retiree thats worked for allianz same as myself knows that miachael. ❤

My favorite moment was my sister's (coach. Rip) look on her face smiling when I proved I could read/write Brail with my name the 1st time before my 1st steps age 1. I frustrated did it quick after she said "if Hellen Keller could do it you can do it" thinking at same time she said it that if my sister could do it to teach me I could. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 It made my day every day working at Allianz to run my fingers along the Brail emergency exit while I climbed up/down 6flights daily during lunch break to get psychologically fit with my body to do my job at Allianz the best I could. ❤
