Best country rock musicians ever, and at their exact prime. Lee is incredible. But one thing everyone should know, this was Gram Parson's would-have-been band if he had lived. He wrote this song. He and Emmy Lou could have been the greatest duo, but really-really tragically he OD'ed right before this. Emmy Lou took over like Dickie Betts taking over for Duane Allman, they were both equally great. They probably would have gotten married too if Gram had kicked the habit and lived. Heroin killed both Duane and Gram plus many others. Stay away from it. But thank God for for Emmy Lou, and Dickie Betts too.

I love your comment….your insight is spot on. Gram was on the cusp of greatness when he passed away. Watching this makes one think of how fabulous it would have been if he didn’t die in 1973. Emmy Lou was by far the best person to carry on and share his legacy. X

This was jaw dropping, life changing stuff back in 77 and it still is today! the reason that ELH always has such super human musicians is that she herself is a relentless force of nature. its only natural that they would want to be in on this. Emmylou didnt hire no bums. I also read that she used to pay these guys out of her own pocket when Warner Brothers was too cheap to pick up the tab in the early days. what a righteous, stand up thing to do! Art wins out over greed1 OH HELL YES!!! ROCK ON!

I've been a fan of Albert Lee since the way back in the Heads Hands and Feet days (and of course, always a big fan of Emmylou's) and I STILL can't get used to how stunning his playing is. Every time I see him I am left speechless all over again. It's like I can't trust my memory of the last time I saw him, and start to think that his playing can't POSSIBLY be as amazing as I remember... but it is. And perhaps, if possible, even better each time. What an incredible talent.

Na-aah - she realized that there was(Gasp!) too many guitars goin', and she wisely got out of the way. This is an example of why she's consistently had the best musicians in her band - she serves the song while putting on a good show. After a long time, she put the Hot Band behind her and went with a smaller group. But she's always got a great band. She knows that people expect it from her; she's worked hard for her reputation for always putting on a good show. But THAT'S what she's after, even more than applause. This is why she always seems uninterested in adulation or compliments on her looks - that's not why she's there. And so she always works hard, and her band works hard to back her up the best that they can, and everyone wins. It's too bad that it's unlikely that any young singer will come along with her values(even if the singer could match her gifts) - the world has just changed too much, and people are all so different today. Time does, as the song says, go past like a hurricane. At least we've got these cool old videos; Albert is just great on this one, one of Gram's that's always been a song for the band to stretch out on.

Not so sure about the miming; there was plenty of that. Not this excerpt of course but many of the "live" acts which did a couple of numbers on an episode were often suspiciously over-instrumentated (such as rod clements of lindisfarne playing a violin solo whilst the bass round his neck which he's taken his hands off continues to pump it out - and many more) It was a good show overall but not quite always what it seemed.

I do have the album and the CD.. I remember when I first got the cassette tape and was playing it super loud in my old Rambler( the Golden Eagle) I had the cassette player on a slide in and out, floor mount with an equalizer!! And man it rocked!!

Albert Lee is the Oscar Peterson of the guitar. I think if the gods would put Mr. Lee on the same stage with Glen Campbell, Jerry Reed, Billy Gibbons, Stevie Ray Vaughan - all the greats, that they would share the same jaw-dropping reaction with most of us.

Speaking of luxury, what a luxury it was for Emmylou to have Albert Lee on lead guitar. Just set your guitar down baby, pick up a tambourine and let Albert take over

+Jeremy Husmann Your right she's definitely no Stacy Partridge but then you shouldn't compare Legends they both have their Good and bad. BUT in her defense have you ever performed on stage and I don't see any head gear on her you CAN'T HEAR and it sucks you can't really hear what's coming from where , sometimes it's just all LOUD.NOISE doesn't sound like what the audience is hearing to those on stage.

+Jeremy Husmann I love Emmylou to death, but she's always a little rhythmically challenged. Watch her try to dance on Little Feat's Dixie Chicken!

+CJ carp Yes I have actually. I've been drummer in a rockabilly band. But you're right, the monitors aren't always well adjusted. So, good point!

My first introduction to Albert Lee was a cassette an Irish friend gave me just before I left for Canada. It was called "Gagged, But Not Bound," and it was like a master class in tier 1 guitar chops. I learned a great deal from listening to and studying that tape, and I don't even play country!😉
