This emergency meal was adapted from this recipe: www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/c...
Cheesy Chicken & Wild Rice Soup
Place in Bag:
-1 box Uncle Ben’s long grain & wild rice mix
-quart box of shelf stable 2% milk
-2 cans cream of potato soup
-lg can of chicken
-2 4 oz blocks Velveeta (from a 20 oz pkg of Fresh Packs)
-1 bottle of water (16.9 oz)
-2.5 oz pkg bacon bits
-freeze dried chives
-oyster crackers
To prepare the meal, first cook the rice package using the bottle of water and the broth drained off the chicken. Then add the milk, canned soups, and velveeta. Heat until the cheese is completely melted. Add the chicken and heat through. Serve garnished with bacon, chives and crackers. Add a can of fruit to the bag to serve alongside if desired.

The “expiration” **Best BY** dates on canned and jarred foods are simply the manufacturer’s best guess how long the food will taste fresh, but they have >NOTHING< to do with the safety of the food.

Your soup looks good! 👍🏽 Yes! We have young adult children, and they will often come over and shop mama and dad’s pantry & freezer. If you like thick, creamier soups, I have a good shelf stable one I came up with the other day, it’s a creamy chicken gnocchi, I started by boiling the gnocchi, set aside, in the same pot, add cream of chicken soup, as many cans as you need, canned chicken gravy, 1 can of water, evaporated milk or media crema, garlic powder, onion powder, canned chicken, add gnocchi, simmer lightly ten minutes, salt and pepper to taste, then serve. It was very good.

🍵🥄 I like this idea of packed meals that gives more planning for some of the food in the prepper pantry! I am a one person household sooo I cant open a big bunch of cans at the same time to make a huge meal unless I invite my neighbours one day and then get invited by them other days. I can have the same food some days in row if I have a cold place to store it in between... I will watch some more and then pack a few for the first days of a crises when one is in chock.

I'm glad to see the Butane stove can be used indoors. I saw another video that said that you can't use a camping stove in the house.

Hi Teresa, only as a precaution, please do your own research, but I might offer a caution to NOT use a pot or pan that extends beyond the actual burner portion of the stove itself. As I understand it, you don't want to reflect too much heat upon the butane canister on the side!

I do this but use walmart bags and because of space I box the meal categories like chili/goilash garbage(its a non tomato base goulash) etc. But I never yhought to add the spices , water or milk.

Have you checked the sodium content in the Campbell's soups & Velveeta cheese? Campbell's is notorious for salt overload. Some of us oldies must reduce salt intake.

  • @wickedprepared

    @wickedprepared

    Жыл бұрын

Yes you are right Diane. We don't have to worry about sodium too much in our household, but it's definitely worth a mention that folks who do have to watch their sodium intake could make some changes- perhaps use the lower sodium versions of the soups, using less of the seasoning packets, things like that. Unfortunately it can be hard to get away from some of those things when putting together shelf stable meals like this. You might want to check out the meals in a jar I do (there's a playlist). The freeze dried ingredients we use are mostly single ingredients with nothing added, not even salt. So it's a lot easier to control things like sodium in those meals. In fact single ingredient freeze dried foods are really the best choice for anyone really concerned about nutrition in their preps! Thank you for your comments!❤️

I stretch creamed soups by adding fresh celery and milk or cream, oatmilk, etc. Add a cup of diced celery, a small potato or carrot, peas etc. Add fresh mushrooms to cream of mushroom soup, milk, portabellas, potato, etc. Don't add salt, stretch the recipes or make cream homemade soups.
