Elvis Presley - Trouble/Raised on Rock (medley) 6 August 1973 OS (Only Time Performed Live)
An Elvis Presley Las Vegas opening night was usually the time where Elvis would introduce new songs to his setlist, usually because the only rehearsals that Elvis and the band undertook, particularly in later years, was in preparation for a new Las Vegas engagement.
In this regard Elvis' ninth Las Vegas engagement was no different as on opening night, 6 August 1973, Elvis introduced three new songs that evening, Trouble, Raised On Rock and My Boy.
The latter of the three, My Boy, had yet to be recorded in the studio by Elvis and this first live performance can be heard elsewhere on my KZread channel.
The other two were introduced at the beginning of the show and were segued into a medley. The first of those was "Trouble' from King Creole recorded fifteen years earlier on 15 January 1958 at Radio Recorders in California.
The second of the two was 'Raised On Rock' recently recorded just two weeks earlier on 23 July in Memphis at Stax Studios and would be released on the album of the same name later in the year.
Whilst it appears that Elvis would never perform 'Raised On Rock' again after opening night, 'Trouble' would retained throughout the engagement. On closing night, 3 September, Elvis would use it as part of a tirade directed towards the hierarchy of the Hilton Hotel.
That closing night version would be the last full version performed by Elvis although a couple of one verse only versions would be performed in Huntsville on 31 May 1975, cleverly used as an introduction to his new record 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E', and finally in Saginaw on 3 May 1977 during the final show of Elvis' third to last tour.

I wished he had done these songs more often it's ashame that there ain't a soundboard clear version of these songs but that god for the person who taped this from the audience
Raised on Rock is a great song. He should’ve performed it a lot more than just once.

I wish Elvis kept Trouble in his set...especially how James guitar sounded later in the month!!! Raised on Rock needed lyric changes i think and some reworking..would have been great!!!!

Exactly because Elvis is singing about the music he made and helped create, he's kind of singing in first person about being a child and listening to rock and roll thru songs as Johnny B Goode, even Hound Dog is stretching it as it was written in 52 so Elvis was 17. Personally I love the song, thing is Elvis did change the one verse at the end: Mama played recordings of Beethoven's fifth, Moonlight Sonata down the classical Liszt. Daddy loved to listen to his country songs. I was in the back room diggin the Stones. Elvis changed that to "I was in the back room rockin on'

A good song I believe he only sung it once Vegas 73 opening nite pity trouble was he seemed 2 get bored of songs with an uptempo quickly great pity.
it's to bad he very seldon he would change he song list, and add in new ones.
