Lego gets it right when he says Marner does this to himself. He is the one not living up to his huge cap hit and just makes excuses. Matthews keeps breaking goal records and Nylander has been outplaying his deal the last 2 seasons so Marner is clearly the underachiever in everyone's eyes.

I'm no Leafs fan, but seriously? Has any team won the Stanley Cup without an elite or at least damn good goalie? This reminds me of the Bobby Clark Flyers era in which he refused to get a good goalie and their four year window came and went!

Compare Marner with Brayden Point. Both similar age, SHOULD have had similar value and signed at the exact same time. Marner took 11x6, Point took 6.75x3 and then extended at 9.5x8. One won, the other lost. One shows up, the other ghosts. Marner does not deserve the raise he wants. He can get it elsewhere.

Yeah but they’re not premier free agents, let’s be honest. Tavares is the only prime age free agent to sign for the team in the salary cap era. It’s not hard to figure out why if you live here.

  • @dalonge88

Gets 97+ points a year on a 11m contract and i heard him say not living up to expectations lol thats laughable. you could ask any team in the league if they would take an almost 100 point player for 11m 90% would say yup sign here. He is almost a point per game player in the playoffs 50 points in 57 games hes a +10. The only year he didnt perform in the playoffs was this year 2024 3 points 7 games 2023 14 points 11 games 2022 8 points 7 games 2021 4 points 7 games 2020 4 points 5 games Marner has about the same point average in the playoffs as Matthews but no one is demanding a Matthews trade 48 points in 55 games 2024 4 points 5 games 2023 11 points 11 games 2022 9 points 7 games 2021 5 points 7 games 2020 6 points 5 games Maybe both of them should be traded since they are not point per game players in the playoffs. Not everyone in the league is going to be McDavid

Why is Marner the scapegoat for the Leafs failure? Dude makes 3 million less than Matthews, has 10 less career points than him and had 1 less point than him in round 1. When you're paying over 45 million for 4 players, literally more than half the salary cap, and none of them can move the needle in the playoffs, you're screwed.

It’s a fair question, the vibe just seems to be that Marner isn’t loved. It’s not his contract or his stats, it’s just him. Matthew’s and Nylander (as you can see) don’t have this problem of being scrutinized like Marner is. Conclusion, he is not loved like some of the others

Why sign with the Leafs if the media wants to run all-star and future hall of Famers out of town. If you not putting up close to 100 points even when not playing all 82 games what will the media do or say about you. One of the better two way players in the game and you don't want him because he is the problem. Supporting cast has been good enough either but how do get the right ones if media scares good players away.

Remember, this is the fan base that booed a Stanley Cup winning Hall of Fame defence man out of town. This is also a fan base that turned on their captain and best player when he wouldn’t waive his no move clause. The Marner situation is going to be the same thing. Marner is probably going to be the best winger to ever play for the Maple Leafs all while the fan base is chasing him out of town while cuddling their two other more selfish super stars. There is a reason why Matthews demanded to start playing with Mitch and that was he knew Mitch would be able to help inflate his numbers to get the big pay cheque. Mission Accomplished. Nylander disappeared in the regular season once he got paid. Those are the two guys that this fan base is committed too. Can’t wait for Marner to walk and pull a Larry Murphy.
