Its crazy the amount of negativity our minds are capable of throwing at us. I found that daily meditation is the only way for me to more regularly gain this "observers perspective" and step out of those thought loops. It's often a pain to sit down and practice meditation but my quality of life improves significantly if I stick with it. Great video giacomo, keep it up!

I will be the summary bro: 1. The key to eliminating mental suffering is mastering your thoughts, recognizing that you are not your thoughts but rather an observer of them, and choosing which thoughts to give power to. 2. There are two aspects within you: your higher self, which seeks your highest potential, and your lower self, which seeks comfort and instant gratification. These two selves are in a constant war, with thoughts as their soldiers. 3. Giving attention to thoughts sent by the lower self empowers it, leading you towards a life of comfort-seeking and instant gratification, which is opposed to change and success. 4. To win the war against the lower self, you must understand it fully and refuse to give attention to any thoughts it sends. It is vital to critically analyze your thoughts and the actions they lead to, as they can be deceptive. 5. Success in this process involves training your mind to withdraw attention from manipulative thoughts and returning focus to the present moment. This can be achieved through practices like meditation and the discipline of understanding and controlling thought patterns.

So, the higher self also uses thoughts? Am I that higher self? If I'm not, how do I choose to observe thoughts without a thought telling me to observe thoughts and how can I be certain that this choice to observe thoughts doesn't come from the lower self?

There is no need to imagine a war with a ficticious "lower self". It's a mistake to personify a false self. That attitude only serves to strengthen belief in a non-existent separate "lower self". There is only conditioning, habits and a tendency to personify these things. It's not a useful fiction either. Imagining there's a "lower self" to fight only creates tension, more conditioning, more problems. You are most definitely the awareness of the silent observer, everything else arises in awareness. Welcome your thoughts as honoured guests without holding on to them is infinitely better than imagining they are products of an enemy. The problem is you will get what you expect and make an enemy of your mind. Look into self enquiry practice to ground this understanding. You will quickly discover first hand that "higher" and "lower" selves are fictional. There is only the oneness of a boundless "you" shared by all beings. Frankly I would trust the tried and tested traditions of non-duality, advaita vedanta and Buddhism over the almost-right but dramatic pronouncements on this video

I noticed it blocks me from trying new things, working towards my goals, talking to certain people it throws phrases around like “embarrassing” “not good enough” “too much time” “to much effort” to put me exactly where i am comfortable, and not where i truly want to be

I watched this video this morning. I used to think that young people were less credible because of their relative lack of life experience, but you’ve helped to change my mind about that. I can tell by the content of your video that you have been through enough of this struggle to speak with some authority. I had to pause to deal with something just after you explained about the lower self wanting comfort and cheap gratification and I wondered what you would say was wrong with comfort and cheap gratification. When I returned to your video a bit later, you didn’t let me down. You went on to answer my unspoken question. I agree with you about how crafty and patient the lower self can be. I appreciate that you acknowledge that you occasionally still stumble and that 9/10 successes is better than 0/10. It’s not like a vending machine where putting in $1.99 for a $2 item yields nothing. That’s really helpful to those of us who tend to be “all or nothing” thinkers. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I think one critique I have on this take is that I believe it is a misnomer to “destroy” the lower self. The goal is not to deprive oneself of simple pleasures of life, but to rather align the lower self and the higher self into one. Through this alignment, our actions both in the lower self and higher self propel us in a direction that is mutually beneficial. Therefore reinforcing the educational, relationship, or career goals that we set out for ourselves. Regardless, good video and helps provoke thought.

Thank you for this video. As someone who has been reacting to recent changes in a negative way, my mind gets bombarded with fears and thoughts that I don't approve of. When I finally had them have less power of me, it caused me to believe that I approved of them or that I was an emotionless person. So, I said them out loud and the real me criticized them. It made me realize that those thoughts aren't me and that my mind was portraying me as someone I wasn't. Because I had visualized myself as a bad person, it made me believe I WAS a bad person. I'm still recovering but I'm glad they don't have as much power over me as I thought they would. We all fear that we may end up a way we don't like or approve of but remember 85% of what we fear NEVER even happens. So, if we take that food for thought, we will be much happier.

Great video as always. You are one of the few that have really inspired me to start my own self-improvement journey. Keep making unique and influential content that people love, you have the power to change the lives of many. Keep up the great work, and I hope to watch many more of your videos and watch your channel grow.

i love how concise n straight to the point this is, it makes it way easier to wrap my mind arnd it n i realized jus how much ive been feeding my lower self, which in a way, even if i achieve some comfort, leaves me feeling a vague sense of dread n disappointment

This is what meditation is but it’s funny how people are so put off by meditation that they do t even investigate what it is - they just jump to their own conclusions. Really good video - the breakdown between lower and higher self makes it all crystal clear 💎

I was on the path to improving my time management and actually working towards something until I got sick a week ago. I allowed myself to choose comfort and pleasure, even when I started feeling better. I knew what I should’ve been doing, and then your video pops up. What a life saver. I am now writing in my journal, two categories: LOWER SELF and HIGHER SELF I am listing all of the thoughts that each side conjures into my mind, now identifying each tactic the lower self uses to self sabotage. I can now isolate all the HIGHER SELF thoughts, bringing those to light to allow myself to further focus on those thoughts, keeping me away from the “dark side.” Thank you for this video, it really opened my mind when I needed it.

Great idea man, I used to write down what tricks the lower self would play on me so I would remember them. Then you know the trick already and you can just laugh it off when it tries again.

If you follow your thoughts which you cannot control you can fall in real deep dark places If you can control your thoughts you're a real person who knows it's self, who knows what to do, who knows what to say. That person doesn't believe in taking the right decision he makes a decision and makes it right no matter how hard will that challenge be he will try to always win until the end :D

I'm glade you made a video addressing this issue that remains under the radar among society as the truth about this internal conflict is that once you understand it will change your mindset on the value of time as in order to win and be the better self-disciplined person one must simply win by having a specific goal that is gives your own sense of purpose by giving yourself a consistently productive monthly schedul, however time is a factor that will play for both sides depending on if you decide whether to give time and happiness to yourself now, or to invest the time into yourself in the future.
