Elijah Daniel Smith - Vermillion Glare (2023)
0:00 Melodies are split apart rhythmically, microtonally, and timbrally
0:59 Harsh prepared piano chords and flashes of string harmonics before falling out to gentler swells
3:21 A striking piano Cmaj7 chord pulls us out into a nearly pitchless soundscape
4:33 Out of the blur of sound, the original flute and clarinet melody returns
5:26 Warm chords over soft bells quasi out of time as the piece fades out, eventually losing pitch altogether

gotta shout all the cmaj7 chords haha
Wow the whole time it really did feel like something was staring at me. Wonderful piece!
One of today's more interesting composers. Him and Saad Haddad are standouts among today's young composers IMO.
wasn’t expecting to enjoy this but it’s actually really interesting. love the contrasts in texture and intelligent use of extended techniques to create them
I was half expecting a wasted sound effect on that ending with all the red and all tbh
is there any chance to get the score? I mean in document format
All of _that_ and it's in 4/4? Like having a ferocious pet lion and calling it Nigel.
Vermilion is spelled with one L in the score
This is just derivative, a leftover warm-up of Oscar Bettison with hints of Louis Andriessen.
Why….

Because plagiarism is fun?
falafel
Seven minutes of microtonal sound effects with barely any melody. I mean, to each their own, I guess, but this type of music does nothing for me.

I can appreciate the craftsmanship of the music but that’s about it for me.

Personally I love how Elijah is able to subtly manipulate timbre and evoke such strong tone colors. He is a real standout composer I discovered this year
