But did you know Tony? I guessed Silver - argh so close and yet so far
Poor Arthur - I hope this isn't the last I've seen of him!
Very happy for David, though poor Arthur Chu is what I will say since Arthur got locked out after missing a $10,000 Daily Double. At least Mackenzie didn’t get herself in the negatives.

1 way or another, Arthur was gonna hit the $400,000 mark, and this wasn’t MacKenzie’s day. Way too many mistakes took the wind out of her sails, and she couldn’t recover from them.
Mercury in Latin is Hydrargentum. That is why the symbol is Hg. I knew silver was involved in the name because the Latin name for silver is Argentum, which is why Argentina is called Argentina because of the rich amounts of silver in that country.

I guessed silver due to the Ag element 😫
@stephaniefoster1964

I knew Ag was silver (* went back and forth between gold and silver, but settled on silver, remembering gold was Au!), and I knew 'viv' had to do with life. I just didn't put together living silver->quicksilver ->mercury.🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️

Old Words is the category Clue: First appearing in an English dictionary in 1623, mesonoxian means pertaining to this word I would never have guessed this

@@Ocalif3 I did, actually 🙂_ high school Latin came in handy (I'm 60); meso = middle, nox = night, so middle night ->midnight!
I worked it out to quick silver, but fogot that was also the name of mercury!! So, had it, didn't have it!! Lol!!

I said Oxygen, because I thought Vivum meant life

@@chazztreat8317that was right! Argentum being silver, hence Ar for Silver. Living Silver is a new one on me, but it was close enough to Quicksilver to get me there!
Congratulations on advancing to the semi finals david
I didn’t see the episode and thought Ken said parents instead of parrots. Was confused for a second.

Yeah, me too! I didn't replay it double-check, either...
I know season 38 was the season of the superchampions because of James Holzhauer's strategy and the pandemic gave the future superchampions more time to prepare. Even in 2014 and 2019, there were two double digit champions in the same year and same season. That being said, it's really strange to think that after David Madden, who first competed in 2005, we wouldn't see an ultrachampion again until Arthur Chu's run in 2014!
Comnent to prevent commemt preventing spoiler fans fosho!
I got it becuase a remembered Maximus's horse's names in Gladiator.
Arthur Chu being the ultrachampion after David Madden is probably exclusively why they were selected to play against each other in the quarterfinals. I didn't know who to root for because of this.
Pieced it together right away, roughly! Nice clue! Not familiar with that spin on it, but enough to get by!
Closed captioning is great at giving you the questions, which everyone can read anyway, and really lousy at doing the off-handed answers, which is hard to hear.
I would have written What is quicksilver? just for the fun of it.

I just picked an element at random, and got it right. A blind guess counts just as much as knowledge.

rawk! what is mercury?? (whistles, preens feathers)
It is fairly easy if you know some latin (Argent is silver, vivum is life). Surprised they didn't all get it.

I used to look forward to tournaments. Now, I just want to see a new face.
This was pretty easy for anyone that knows Latin roots.
The girl with $600 could have gone for broke and gotten it right and still would have been a VERY distant third. 😢
Fun fact: While the two champions who had the most wins shared a stage in the GOAT tournament in 2020, after Amy Schneider beat Matt Amodio's streak in January 2022, and Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, Mattea Roach, Ryan Long, and Jonathan Fisher shared a stage throughout the 2022 Tournament of Champions, this is the first time the first three double digit winners in the show's history shared a stage!
I got this Final Jeopardy! clue right.
Mercury that correct, David is a semifinals congratulations 🎉
