    I'm too clumsy to hold the wine glass like that...I have tried and tried but it just doesn't feel stable in my hand...it feels extremely awkward like it's going to tip when I set it down. I loved this video!! I've seen people who claim to be of high status and do things like bite the cutlery when eating, eat with an open mouth or slurp beverages..it drives me crazy. I think these are not only things you should avoid to look elegant, it's just etiquette and EVERYONE should practice it.

    I'm very grateful that my grandmother took me to an etiquette course when I was about 8 years old. I incorporated all the rules since then and for me all of this is quite natural. I also hear compliments from different people from time to time that I am very elegant. I grew up in a simple immigrants family but I learned that even if you don't have easy access to money and affluent people, you can still stand out by: etiquette, proper manners, cultural knowledge, clean and well groomed appearance.

    Most of those rules are common in my household. My grandmother being an illiterate poor woman was very keen towards table etiquette since young age and she taught all her children, even though only my mom decided to really learn and use everyday what she learned through her mom and others... If you really want to learn and being natural while using this rules (and others) you have to practice daily until they're part of you

    I mean- I couldn’t agree more about everything else but this one. I have a small mouth. I like my tomatoes, toppings etc. evenly distributed throughout my lettuce. If I don’t cut my salad then I will have to strain my mouth wide open and literally feel like I’m stuffing it in. My dressing will be all over my face and I’ll have to eat my veggies separate because there is no way a huge chunk of lettuce plus anything else is happening. I just can’t understand why this is considered poor etiquette. I love etiquette and feel it’s not rules but rather being polite. I’m going to continue to cut my salad only because I don’t feel it’s impolite to do so.

    Great short video!!! I do have one caveat. While I was always taught that the salad should not be cut, that comes with the assumption that the restaurant has served it in appropriately sized, torn pieces. UNFORTUNATELY, that is often not the case. In that scenario I believe it is better to cut than to stuff an entire leaf (that cannot be folded) into your face.

    I love your content Ana. It always reminds me of my 5th grade teacher, Mr Williams in South Africa who taught us things like etiquette and table manners etc(which was not part of the lesson in class). He was such an elegant gentleman who just enjoyed teaching us such things and I’ve been applying it in my daily life ever since. I eat everything with a knife and fork. I am very old school and believe that men should open the car door for us etc.

    Hello. Just wanted to say big thank you to Anna, I hope she sees it. A year ago I was depressed, overweight, doing minimum performance in my life and work, obviously with no will to live. I started my journey with Anna and right now I am single again, I am chasing my dreams, being healthy, having new job in which I succeed, high quality people started to chase me and I am not yet fully developed! It all started from drinking from the glass and cleaning house (every item should have its designated place- I remember every sentence from Anna that changed something in my life)... Right now I have organised life and clean flat for the first time in my life. I went to the therapy to solve past traumas so right now my head is clear so I set new goals for next years. I have great body and hair and look younger than ever before. My skills in every field went up- watch me grow. See you next year, I will update :)

    I Ioved the part when you highlighted the proper way to hold the wine glass. I see a lot of people doing this. Besides the fact that this doesn't look elegant and obviously, it's not the proper way! If the wine happens to be cold then you will be warming it by doing this and it will totally change the wine notes even though it will actually take 70 degrees for this to happen. LOL! Thank you Anna!

  • @MrCmon113

    @MrCmon113

    3 жыл бұрын

    Firstly the warmup is negligible unless you hold the glass for a long time. Secondly not all wine is cold. A drink being cold masks the taste, so when you are drinking something really fancy, imo it should have room temperature. Thirldy, you don't have to hold it at the rim or something. Hold it just below the bowl. That's way more elegant than awkwardly balancing it at the stem.

    For number 2, cutting salad leaves... I would rather cut them into smaller pieces rather stuffing a humongous leaf into my mouth all at once. This risks smearing lipstick which requires a trip to the ladies room to correct. For number 8, if one has arthritic fingers like I do, then grasping the bowl of the glass can be necessary. If I used just my fingers to hold the glass’s stem, then I risk having it tip over resulting in a nasty accident.

    You miss the bigger picture. It's not your job at a fine dining establishment to be cutting your salad. Being elegant doesn't mean evading a polite request to have others do their jobs right.

    @@lucybraun8969 - Lucy is understands that cutting salad at the table indicates the chef's error. However, sending a salad back to be cut is exceedingly insulting to the chef, which is an entirely inelegant solution. Plenty aspects of dining etiquette are to respect the chef. The purpose of etiquette is to make everyone comfortable and keep a steady flow. Snobbery toward the chef and wait staff is not elegant living. Leafy salad is not intended to be used with a knife, therefore, using a knife with the salad is alerting that the dish wasn't properly served. If a lettuce leaf cannot be folded onto the fork, cutting is okay, but a chef aspiring to be the best would be embarrassed that the salad was not better prepared. We are trying not to embarrass people, which is what etiquette is all about. Cutting food in itself is not the problem. Respect for the host and staff is the key.
