His voice is like butter...smooth as silk. In the George Harrison tribute version of " While my guitar gently weeps" with Tom Petty, Prince, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison and Jeff Lynne....his voice is just perfection. He is a musical genius...... He still sounded amazing a few years ago. It just seems he is one of the most underrated singers considering all the amazing songs and the creative talent of ELO.

Oh, I don't know. 'Last Train To London' is searing indictment of the British transport system - no more trains to London due to industrial action or poor management or leaves on the line; 'Telephone Line' describes the communications infrastructure deficiencies that bedevil the country; 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head' - well, was there ever a song more descriptive of drug-taking's pernicious effects?

During the late sixties and seventies, "don't bring me down, man" just meant don't ruin my good mood/time.
Jeff Lynne is one of the legends. "Telephone Line" is far and away my favorite.
"Don't Bring Me Down" was the third single from ELO's 1979 album Discovery. Out of the Blue was the double record album they released in 1977, featuring the hits "Turn To Stone", "Mr. Blue Sky", and "Sweet Talkin' Woman".

I did a B&L throwback yesterday and watched you two react to Prince's guitar solo on _While My Guitar Gently Weeps_ in memory of George Harrsion at the 2004 Hall of Fame Inductions. You guy had no idea who Tom Petty was. Or Jeff Lynne. Or Steve Winwood. NOW, you know who Tom Petty is. You are listening to Jeff Lynne with ELO on this reaction. @Smarten up! You're a real live Sherlock Holmes. _Of course_ they do this for money. Why wouldn't they? They are the new sit-com. The new TV show. The old paradigm of TV show entertainment and commercials to pay for it is disappearing. Brad & Lex are on the cutting edge of its replacement, trying to make a buck while they can. Also, you have no idea what they listen to " _after the video_ ", but I have seen them make connections between the songs they react to now and ones they've listened to in the past. They do not forget them. I don't know what they listen to either. And I don't care. I don't know what they eat for dinner every night and my world doesn't end for that lack of knowledge either. However, your passive-aggressive statements and racist comments tell us all we need to know about you. I haven't had a TV in my home for almost 15 years now. My video entertainment is hand-picked by me and Brad & Lex earned one of my spots. If they seek to be interesting to me, I will cease to watch them. It's that simple. If they expand and make a channel that deep dives into a single artist for a live stream, I'll give it a shot. If it sucks, I'll give them the feedback and move on. You need to follow the advice of your moniker.
What a blast to my afternoon. This is one of my favorite songs just because of instruments and tune! Cant be sure that the song is about but it is still a favorite.

I think Professor of Rock actually had a video about this song here on KZread that talks about what the song was about among other things.
I'm surprised this song hasnt been recommended first along with "Roll over Beethoven "....This is one of my fave ELO songs
Jeff Lynne (author, composer, singer) and the technique of "full sound" brilliantly borrowed from classical music of the symphonic and philharmonic type. What is the so-called "full sound" technique? Eliminate any sound void by superimposing the instrumental tracks instead of juxtaposing them. Result for the listener: a pleasant and catchy sensation of being literally enveloped by the music, integrated into it. Lynne used the same technique in most of his compositions. Listen to "Strange Magic", "Evil Woman" et Can't Get It Out Of My Head"; it will convince you. It's the signature sound of Jeff Lynne, an underrecognized master. Thank to you two.
Hahaha! Lex "They go brrrrrr, oooh!!...ya know what I mean?" Brad "I have clue what you mean..." Lol!
ELO always reminded me of the lighter and fun sounding version of say, Pink Floyd. Their fusing of rock, pop and synth was no less than ear candy. They truly don't get the credit that they deserve and yet their sound is so unmistakable. 🌈
Everyone keeps on forgetting "Can't Get it Out of My Head", "Living Thing" and "Showdown" on top of ALL of those amazing songs they have listed. "Showdown" was used for the Peyton Manning and the other 5 or 6 other superstars in their Miller Lite Super Bowl commercial this last February.
Love love love this song. Thx for reacting to it!!! Jeff Lynn produced several Tom Petty albums. He & Tom were also part of The Traveling Wilburys. ML&R

Misheard lyric "Don't Bring Me Down" (1979) by ELO 0:24 A common mondegreen in the song is the perception that, following the title line, Lynne shouts "Bruce!" In the liner notes of the ELO compilation Flashback and elsewhere, Lynne has explained that he is singing a made-up word, "Groos", which some have suggested sounds like the German expression "Gruß," meaning "greeting."[8] Lynne has explained that originally he did not realize the meaning of the syllable, and he just used it as a temporary placekeeper to fill a gap in the lyrics, but upon learning the German meaning he decided to leave it in.[8] After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows.
Music is so vast, non-stop and never ending. As you get older, you may find it harder to keep up with the music. You guys are consuming and trying to digest decades and decades of music. I love how much you enjoy all the diversity, too bad you have barely scratched the surface. When humans become programmable as like in the matrix where you are fed a learning program, it would be nice to be able to install a grip of music in minutes ;) We have a long time before this happens, but It will, until then we still have to do it the normal way :D
"Do Ya" is my favorite ELO song.
Jeff Lynee (the frontman and songwriter for ELO) was also in the Traveling Wilburys.
The song refers to a woman Lynne knew that they fell out of friendship and be came more distant from him as she started hanging around "her fancy friends" thinkng it would lead her to end. Still a fun song.
The word he says at the end of the lyric is Gruss, which is German for greeting. Lots of people hear it as Don't Bring Me Down, Bruce!!!
@corneliuscrewe677

It’s not even that, it’s “groos,” it was just a placeholder in the writing of the song never intended to be in the final product. They left it in because it didn’t sound right without it.

The album this song was taken from is Discovery. The young man on the front is holding an ELO saucer. If you look inside the album cover, the young man is caught with the disc in his hands by mauraders. If you listen closely at the end of the song Don't Bring Me down, you can hear the spaceship being dropped on the floor-Don't Bring Me Down alludes to the young man (Bruce) dropping the spaceship on the "floor.".
And tightrope, one of my favorites.
I believe - that - especially: Lex - would like the song: "Shine the Light" - by ELO.

The great ELO.....so awesome. They have such a huge catalog of grooves....enjoy the ride 🕊️💗
My brother was Really into this band, for the variety, innovation, and full sound. I only gave them a chance because of my big brother, hehe, because I trusted his musical appreciation (he's the one who turned me onto Queen & Kansas). You can't deny the talent & awesome production value. By the early 80s he had given me his old Van Halen albums, and kept his ELO & Queen ones...but I still listened when it was his time on the turntable stereo in the living room after school 😏
You should check out ELO doing "Telephone Line" live from Wembley stadium. It sounds better than the studio recording and Jeff Lynne is in his 70s. I'm amazed by how good he sounds at his age. Plus he's a fantastic musician.
ELO are 70's icons!!!!!
I love ELO one of my very favorite groups I played them so much I drove others nuts, but love thier sound, and their voices and music, the songs are so lively and fun , dont bring me down , dont bring my mood down, doing the things your doing, hes telling her shes bringing their relationship down, bringing how he feels about her down

I used to roller skate to this song in the 70s
Jeff Lynne & ELO are AMAZING! I'm not sure if you'll notice this, (I started typing right after you finished the song), but once George Harrison broke free from the Beatles, when he handpicked friends to become the Traveling Wilburies (who you've heard), Jeff Lynne is one of the friends he chose, along with Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison. Also, before George's cancer got too horrific, he, & Ringo & Paul brought Jeff in to help (TONS) for their ability to sing "Free as a Bird" with John. John had a cassette tape of himself singing it, and with TONS of work, Jeff was able to pull Johns' voice out of a crackling cassette so that the other 3 could sing with him after he was murdered. Jeff helped not only with the "Anthology", but after George died, his son Dhani had Jeff help him finish his dads last album, Brainwashed. George had gotten too sick to complete it, but had left notes about what he was going for. Jeff & Dhani have said in interviews that they tried to do as little as possible, so that it would truly still be George coming through. He's been a trusted & brilliant friend to the surviving Beatles, from before John was murdered.
Music has no real meaning but what it means to you. Another Great band from my child hood. Keep kickin it out Brad and Lex

To give you an idea about how great ELO is, John Lennon of The Beatles allegedly said that ELO emulated the sound that The Beatles would have had if they had continued into the 1970's.
The answer to the Beatles "Yea Yea Yea" is ELO's "No No NO"!
ELO had almost 30 hit singles in the UK - most of them top ten hits - but oddly never quite made it to #1. This one got closest when it reached #3 in 1979. Next biggest was "Sweet Talkin' Woman" - which is the one I would recommend. Although it was never a big hit, I would also highly recommend 1983s "Four Little Diamonds"
That whole set was awesome, every song! Listen to the whole thing all the way through, Happy music.

We used to cover this in the 90's in a punk/metal/rock band. Superfun.
I was fortunate to have seen them much earlier in their career, then again around the time this song came out. They are sooooo good in concert, and they have dozens of amazing musical works of art, not to mention their wild eyed antics in concert. Must be seen to be fully appreciated. 🤟😎
If you recognize Jeff Lynne, the the singer, you may recall seeing him sing in the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. You reviewed at least one of their songs. One of only two "Wilburys" (the other Bob Dylan) still with us.
Great tune! Great reaction, always love to hear what you both think!
