In their red uniforms, the MEUTE musicians look like a marching band from 1920s New Orleans. But their sound comes directly from modern Germany’s techno clubs - except that it’s analogue, not digital. MEUTE call themselves a »techno marching band«: a dozen percussionists and brass players from Hamburg play deep house and techno on drums, marimbas, trumpets and trombones. As a marching band they have their instruments hanging round their necks, so that they can move freely and perform just like a conventional brass band. They appear in concert halls, at clubs and festivals - or simply on the street. »Our aim is to bring electronic music back to its roots,« explains trumpeter and MEUTE founder Thomas Burhorn. That means getting away from the DJ’s desk and getting right to the audience with a full brass sound and percussion. At their Elbphilharmonie session, the Hamburg band also presents two new songs: »Intentional Dweeb« by Australian DJ Eddie and their own composition »Expanse«.
All songs are played and recorded live.

I've never seen or heard anything like this before. It's unreal to me that there don't seem to be ANY electronic instruments here. Obviously, this is visually beautiful, but this sound is just incredible. It's crazy that the percussionists can keep such a solid, steady beat at such a fast pace. And the horns are so clear, smooth, and rhythmic. The band members seem to be having such a great time, too. I just discovered Meute and I'm already crazy about them! Honestly, I put this on as background music and couldn't look away.

Actually, just noticed that one of the snare drummers literally misses a beat (just one!) because his earpiece was coming loose and he needed to push it back in -- 12:53. Always a sign of a quality musician when something goes wrong, they stop playing for a moment to fix it, and then get right back into it as if nothing happened.
Egal wo Meute spielt , sie sind fantastisch und immer wieder super diese Band zu hören. Macht weiter so tolle Musik 🎶
Und der Beweis dafür, dass es wirklich gute Musik ist: Es wird mit jedem Hören besser. Das Eingängige erweist sich als zunehmend komplex.

Saw these guys at WomAdelaide last year. They were great - the best brass band I've seen. Obviously influenced by electronic music but completely analogue. It must have been terrifying on that roof! 😮

This has to be a studio recording we are listening too. The mics I would assume are only there to add some rooftop sounds for the sake of the video.

No, I think not. At 12:55 a snare beat is missing when the drummer is checking his earphone. Definitely live with maybe or maybe not some post production magic.@@mogglie

Truly, a new sound, an entirely new style of the likes never before encountered by a listeners ear. The drum beats and the instrumental melodies are exceedingly disciplined and this is what the world needs - discipline ! Jah, ich bin geboren im Deutschland but of Czech parentage. I knew something grand and glorious was going to break out soon because music of both countries were pointing in that direction. Now, finally, it is breaking out in a massive way. Meute is the greatest thing to happen since sliced bread and grilled mushrooms with a little cheese ! Thanks guys for your dedication, discipline and musical heroism ! A friend always ! I only discovered Meute today and I am really intrigued by them. They seem to call themselves a techno marching band, but you can hear other things in there too, for example a touch of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. It's addictive to listen to and I can imagine they would be great to hear live. Very high standard of musicianship. I also like the red marching band jackets. I think it's important that a group is well dressed like this.

Im not sure it’s live. We are hearing a studio recording. Sure that can play it live. But this is not. I would assume the microphones are to blend some live sounds on the top for the video sake. No hate. It’s amazing. I love this. Dirty loops has this approach to the yt videos too.
