I'm late to the party, having only just stumbled across Hania for the first time today. I still have tears running down my face, and the video stopped 2 minutes ago. It's rare that I discover music as moving and emotional as this. I'm now going to fall down what I suspect is a very deep rabbit hole.... Beautiful beautiful stuff. Ten out of ten to the videographers who were able to get us all up close and personal without intruding on her personal space. That took genuine skill.

I beg to differ, yes the camera work is quite good (movements, composition, focus, bokeh, etc) but the editing... bleh... they wanted to create an intimate look, the "beeing there" feeling of a live performance, but some cuts reveal either multi takes or heavy post-processing (like the artifact between 1m54s and 1m59s: an oscillating piano, swinging back and forth! See the AKAI mixer being deformed too, in its attempt to follow... Please, stop those computer gimmickry. Oh, and the disappearing rock on the synth at 7m17s ... Back on the keyboard at 7m39

​@@physiqueDrummond right, and at 9.01 she touches her hair while the right hand arpeggio continues playing magically. The music is great though, on line with Yann Tiersen, very pleasant to listen to. Somehow less sophisticated than Agnes Obel, but still I listen to this quite often.

I have been a serious and passionate lover of music for 60 years and I love all types of music. All flavours of rock music, metal, blues, jazz, country, folk, bluegrass, cajun, hawaiian, newage, world music, and I'm a big lover of classical music. I am also a musician and been playing guitar for over 52 years. I especially love guitar and piano music. Like you I'm still able to discover new artists, musicians and music almost daily. I live for music. It's the only drug I need to keep me happy (and the odd glass of wine).

The beauty of this comes from the fact that if this was never recorded and it was just her performing in this empty room....she would be just as proud of what art she just created

Hania Rani is one of those rare artists who has seemingly mastered the technique of restraint. She's always keeping you held on by a single thread, never giving anything away too early. Not many other artists with such a beautiful voice would wait 15 minutes to start singing- and yet, by taking her time to establish the instrumental world first, she allows just enough time for us to forget about the human voice, making it even more enchanting when she finally reminds us. She's truly a genius composer of modern classical.

I'm feeling the opposite. To my profane ears this music translates as unrestrained and self indulgent. She's promenading up and down the keys with an ethos and abandonment that don't match the blandness of what's coming out. I'm rating her high on the BS scale :)

Good point. She does not play the piano in a traditional way in this piece. I usually think of an acoustic guitar as having the ability to be more of a percussive instrument than a piano because you can use your right hand to play rhytym and get percussive sounds.

I’m 70, never really looking for new music but it finds me, through kids and the (mostly) amazing internet, and so happy to be found. This post is amazing and I’m awed by Hania’s creativity. Many thanks💜💕 I just read an article in the NYT, I think, about why are so many people revisiting our generations music and loving it so much. But it’s always been so. In the 70’s we listened to Stevie wonder, pink Floyd, the white album etc, but many of us also loved and sang and performed, or tried to, Ella Fitzgerald, cole porter, Beethoven and Bolero. I bless the internet daily for how accessible everything is, from Bach to Radiohead. And now this beautiful sound

She is one of the best improvisational pianists I've ever seen. She has an incredible ability to create intuitive music.

My sentiments exactly. Listening to this reminded me of the movie "Koyaanisqatsi" made in 1982. That movie made me think no other movie can live up to it. It is not even using the medium in the same way, somehow. It just IS.

The first time I heard this, I thought to myself thank god for everything that ever happened that led me to this very moment. If the point of my existence was to live to hear this, it's good enough for me.

My dear, you have something like no one else, never stop! And your voice oh my! When you started singing I was so alarmed ! I was jammin guitar to your music and then all of a sudden stopped struck by your tone! My heart exploded. Im in love ☀️ 🐝 🌹 I keep watching listening over and over

As a longtime fan of Philip Glass, this sounds absolutey brilliant, and takes me back to the 80s, when i would listen to Glassworks over and over and over. And, what a recording space!

gotta comment again on this on a return listen/watch. Still very moving and well developed piece to me! Glad Hania is getting some visibility!

Agree with the comment below. I’m 77 and found this by chance. Simply lovely .. intrigued by the use of acoustic and digital sequencing .. charmed by the mellifluous repetition and variations. Exquisite.. thank you Hania Rani.

it's not just that is it. there's electronics involved here. repeating, looping.. etc. it's stil brilliant, but technologically there's more going on here..

I just want to hear her play ad infinitum. You know when you finish a book and you have that wave of sadness that it's over and you just want to have more of it... that's how I feel after this session ends.. I've been listening to her music constantly while absorbing myself in art projects and I'm so glad I found this music...

This is one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. As a professional musician myself it's hard not to appreciate every little detail here and every note in this performance is there for a reason. She really puts her heart into it, beyond magical... still she seem so humble afterwards. Man, I am glad I stumbled upon this today, today is a great day. Peace

That last track 'Buka' is sublime! This music takes you 'home' in your heart and your head. It has perfect resonance and is complete. And it often makes me cry, too, when I think about how 'right' it sounds.

That smile and sincere "thank you" at the end. What a sweetie.

И если вдруг меня спросить - где и в чем итог человеческой цивилизации, где "выхлоп"? ...Вот он. Такое чувство, что Вселенная и родилась-то только для того, чтоб через почти 14 миллиардов лет создать вот это чудо. Гений разума, таланта и технологий.
