@Order and Madness 4kids definitely not (unless you want a laugh at the odd voice choices and silly censorship choices), haven't really gotten a great look at the funimation dub though. (Saw glimpses of Dressrossa and it certainly felt weird, I felt Doffy to sound a bit lacking in subtle ways)

Yes. Bartolomeo is Us. Just an absolute Strawhat Stan. And it's played *perfectly*. He's introduced as this sadistic asshole. Until he runs into Luffy and he goes full fan-girl mode and ends up being one of the best buds during the arc. And Bon Clay is indeed THE REALEST ONE. We all got beef with that one from his work in [redacted], but when I say he made up for that and then some, know that this is the understatement of the century.

Don't forget Dragonslayer is an obtainable weapon in Automata, though its called Iron Will, its description and look is pretty much a one to one of the Dragonslayer. Fitting for the guy that made possibly the darkest most depressing universe of media to stand beside Berserk while also making sure Kaine was fucking hot and that android ass was perfectly modeled.

Yeah, the foreshadowing in this series is absolutely amazing. There a character who's seen in the very first arc of the series in a flashback, and that character is not named at the time, nor is given any indication that they matter at all, but the crew meets them nearly 400 episodes later and is revealed to be one of the most important characters in the entire series. Although technically that doesn't apply to the anime because the studio that made it didn't want to make the effort to make them stand out because they didn't realize they'd be someone that had any significance. Also, there's MAJOR plot point in a particular character's backstory that's hinted at roughly 700 episodes before the plot point is actually revealed. It's absolutely nuts, because while it is possible that Oda had this planned out, it's equally possible that he might have just come up with it much later on by remembering the seemingly meaningless line dropped by one character at a much earlier point in the story. Either way, it's a very impressive feat of story telling that I've never seen any other writer accomplish.

They joined the Straw Hats pretty early on, around episode 60ish, to help her get back home to defend her country. Karoo is very close to Vivi, as they've been together since childhood, he is very protective of her & also serves as her primary mode of transportation since he is incredibly fast. Even though they aren't with them anymore they're still considered friends & honorary members of the crew. 19:30 Just gonna leave this here 26:28 I laughed way too hard at this whole event

Oda has absolutely mastered foreshadowing

I caught up with One Piece when Whole Cake island was starting (I watched from Skypiea to the end of Zou in 3 month plus I also read the manga from the beginning after I caught up with the anime.) and it was so painful to wait week to week for a new chapter/episode that I had to stop reading/watching and wait until there are 20-25 chapters/episodes out just to avoid really big cliffhangers. Also if you watch the anime or read the manga you WILL cry for a boat. Before watching One Piece I never thought I could cry for characters that were introduced only a few episodes ago but One Piece makes me love characters just in 2-3 episodes (sometimes 1 episode is enough *cough Oden cough*).

“How many movies are there?” 14, with a 15th on the way. That’s not counting the specials.

In case that you wonder who Kentaro Miura is (the mangaka they mentioned at 20:50).... oh boy, strap yourself for this. He is the mangaka that created what's arguably the best Seinen manga of all time, the infamous 'Berserk' manga, his work influencing many dark, bloody, gory, and gritty titles later to come since its three decade run, such as Attack on titan, Hellsing, and the Dark Souls series to name a few. Kentaro was know for his incredible story writing and breathtaking art, everything done by pen, panels with so much details that would take even doing it digital software a lot of work, he did that with pen and paper. Sadly, just like the tragedy found in Berserk, his own life met a tragic end in May of 2021. Throughout the years the mans health has deteriorated very badly, many people attribute the life style that he had as a mangaka (quite similar to that of Oda) that played a major factor in his health decline. A joke many people made along the years due to his update schedule growing more and more smaller in the later years (there were some years in which he barely manage to deliver 2 or 3 chapters). As such many said that at this rate Miura will die before Berserk gets finished. How right they were unfortunately. We as fans can be very demanding of them the creators, but at the end of the day their only human. As much as it may be bad for the series when its creator takes breaks, they shouldn't be pushed to the point of no return. Sad thing is.... some people speculate that Miura was aware a long time ago of his health issues, but he didn't let that stop him. Instead of abruptly finishing his story or passing the torch to his assistants he continued to draw even though he knew it may kill him one day. The man quite literally died for his work, for his art. And now his legacy lives on as a reminder for us all.

The nine supernovas and the 7 warlords of the sea where both created on the fly a single chapter before their introduction. So far over 700 chapters have been in arcs fully revolving around those characters, and a further 200 were influenced by them. One piece literally would have been over 500 chapters ago if it wasn’t for that decision, which ended up adding some of the greatest characters to the story.

Damn. I just watched that part again recently. Now I am also crying over a boat cause it reminded me.

Bro one piece is so great that I keep up with it, I have been invested since I was a kid, and there are times I reread the whole manga just to make sure I remember all the info given from way back. I so highly recommend watching it when you can because it's beyond phenomenal

it's funny how the anime barley lived up to what the manga portrayed in the past but now we're hyped to see how scenes from the manga appear in the anime. That and the anime sometimes adds more to scenes, fights and moments due to time restraints for the manga and ODA

Like his 'Public Service Anime' videos in which there are such gems as.... treating Harems as a dangerous weather front, A field-guide to surviving Isekais that refer to it as strains of an infection, Gendo Akari's Guide to raising children through neglect, Treating anime style powerups as puberty and refering to Magical girls as dangerous cultist's worshiping dark forces that take on the form of plush toys. Also a tour guide to Amestris is Hilarous. "We just want as many people in the country on that day in particular!"

Mothers basement is the worst though, his takes are bad and he's way to political. Not to mention how shallow some of his analysis video's are, by just using blanket statements about everything, he also always say this could have been done better here and there, to make it seem like he has an opinion.

Protip for watching One Piece, if a flashback starts, get ready for tearjerking. There is good reason why we of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet refer to him as The Great Goda. (Though whether that is pronounced "God-ah" or "Goh-dah" is a matter of some debate and accent.)

Hio a little funfact the video saied Marine fort is Odas biggest flex until now but if i remember correctly Oda saied in comparesen to the "final war/fight" that will somday come in the future Marine Fort will look cute or smal, and that is a fritening statment.

An awsome thing about watching one piece anime is that u can see how animation has evolve since the 90´s to this day. If u want the full one piece experience I recommend read the cover of the manga while watching the anime cuz it shows shortstories about one piece world aand characters that the anime cuts out.

I started watching OP in 2000... 22, soon to be 23, years... Oda announced the final stretch of OP and thus gave me hope I might still be alive to watch the end. I still hope it gets to the 30 year mark at least.

Since you’re doing Dorkly’s Pokémon series I recommend Mother’s Basement’s video on the Pokémon manga. Trust me you’ll love it. It’s a little dark though.

7:02 no no. you got it right. see: just like all Zoan type fruits they are all based on animals and like every species on Earth: they are classified under certain classifications like fish, reptiles, apes, etc. so what Oda did is create a Model System. you see: there's not just one dog, one cat, etc. they are all different versions of animals AKA Models. so one character could eat the Wolf Model of the Dog Dog Fruit or one could have eaten the Jackal. Dinosaurs, however, are classified under Ancient Models and are actually under the Dragon Dragon Fruit mainly cause, in Japan, they are called Kyōryū, which has Ryu which is Dragon. so any and all Dinosaurs fall under the Ancient Dragon Model and that includes a lot of different ones like Drake's (the man changing for the example) ate the Model Allosaurus or, and slight spoilers, the Model Pteranodon. the fact Oda really dives deep into how this world works is wild sometimes and i love it.

I usually tend to watch first and then read because without music and top quality voice acting it feels kinda empty. So when I read it I read with characters voices and feel the music in my head

My only warning is... Be prepared, because after One Piece there will be no other piece of art to satisfy you the way OP does.

There was a casual statement in chapter 1 that Oda brought back in like 1025 or something. It is nuts. Oda does the characters I think, and he has 1 or 2 people who help with landscapes. Oda's net worth is tiny compared to the value of the series, which last I read, was 21.9 billion.

There is a running gag with Usopp the fans say he has the most powerful obv haki since he can see the future and all the lies he tells will happen cause some have

I do highly recommend one piece, weather you decide to watch it or read it, it is a truly an amazing journey and I hope you figure out a way to be able too react to it like you want too without toei fucking your channel with bs copyright lol, whould love to see your reaction too this show, because i absolutely love it

I can only imagine if Oda did work with George Pérez. If you're not sure who Pérez is, look up JLA/Avengers, especially the double page spread of DOZENS of heroes, which he drew by hand to the point of carpal tunnel.

If you want to check out other stuff by Mother's Basement I would highly suggest his 'Public Service Anime' series. Think old school PSAs, but they are about anime tropes. I nearly gave myself a hernia from laughing too hard the first time I saw the episode 'How to Survive a Harem Anime'.

No mistake, it's great to see the satisfying end result to arcs but half the time that wait is because Oda's health is crap and we've waited months sometimes for one issue of the manga because the guy works himself to death...possibly literally, but the wait starts to feel like an unsatiated drug addiction because the series so good we wait in anticipation and every delay feels like getting stabbed in the heart

It doesn’t have nearly as much filler in total percentage compared to Bleach or Naruto, but it creates it’s own issues with how some of the canon arcs are paced in their adaptations. PLUS, when compared to some other long running shows, One Piece is actually eclipsed by some. Days of our lives for example, has been going since 1965 and has over 14k episodes under it’s belt. One Piece is a mere fraction of that in comparison.

I feel like you almost need a primer video on what a mangaka is (manga artist for the easiest translation). Id suggest looking up "A day in the life of a Mangaka" by Paolo from Tokyo - kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmemrdSNlcu1grw.html . There are other resources, but yeah this is fairly typical and is fantastic to understanding what work life in Japan is like, and what is expected of a typical Manga artist.

I now fully believe in what I’ve seen people say, “Those who say they do not like One Piece, simply have not have not read/watched One Piece”. I’m now proud to be a part of this, I’m little over halfway through Dressrosa right now, I’m almost caught up with the manga! Then I think I’m going to switch over the anime to see how it all looks in color and sound.

Yeah no kidding. And it's extra impressive that you can say that right now, because as great as Dress Rosa is, it's one of the hardest arcs to get through because it's just so long and drags in places. The payoff is worth the effort though, and what comes shortly after is some of the one of best arcs in the series.

@@omegashark1837 Yeah, but I'm actually just about to get to Wano myself. I'm taking a break from the series because I powered through Dress Rosa and everything else between there and Wano in the space of about a week and burnt myself out. But while I know Wano is a longer arc, everything I've heard about it makes it sound like it's still a much better arc than Dress Rosa for the most part, and I think that's attributed to just how much more I've heard is actually happening in that arc. I dunno if half the stuff I've heard is true, but from the sounds of it, it won't be as much of an ordeal to get through. Plus the fact that you're reading the manga rather than watching the anime helps. I've been an anime watcher through the entire series, and as much as I love it, the stories about the production value are absolutely true. There's still great bits that are worth watching the anime for though, because there are some things that I've heard the anime does better, and I've even seen One Piece KZreadrs like Grandline Review do lists of thing like this.

@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince I’ve been reading through it since early February. And I have come close to being burnt out. Though regarding Wano, it makes sense to me why it’s so long, the seeds for it have been planted for a long time. But at this point readers have on it for four years and the Japanese audience are starting to voice their frustration(rather demandingly though). I just hope that the editors claim that the climax will on par with Marineford is accurate.

@@omegashark1837 I honestly feel like it might exceed Marineford given everything I've heard. I don't mind spoilers, so every once in a rare while I do end up watching a chapter review, and the amount of stuff going on in Wano does make it feel like it will end up being a much bigger conflict IMO, and it's sounding like the manga is getting close to the conclusion of the arc. Dunno HOW close exactly, but it does sound as though it can't go much longer than it already has.

Being the King of the Pirates isn't about who's the strongest or who has the most booty, no to Luffy the Pirate King is the person with the most freedom in the world. For our little strawhatted kid, freedom is his one wish and in this time with the oppression of the world government almost literally weighing down on the average person the pirate life seems so liberating. That struggle between freedom and oppression constantly bubbles beneath the surface of a lot of the story. Luffy wants to have as much freedom as possible so that drives him, while other members who carry the will of D try to find freedom in other ways, like Garp working within the system or Dragon trying to change that same system. Now what Luffy plans to do after becoming King is the most interesting thing to think about because it will informs us of why he wanted freedom in the first place. Food for thought.

Miura the author of Berserk died recently....he is considered to be one the greatest manga artists ever.

You ask what’s not to like about one piece… Toei animation. Don’t get me wrong, I love the one piece anime (even though after dressrosa I switched to manga only but started at the first chapter cause I’m not gonna half ass it) but Toei animations is milking one piece to a point where it’s unhealthy. Oda had fantastic 2 page spreads KEY WORD HAD. Oda strait up changes his panel style and the pages are cluttered and full of words so that Toei has something to milk. A 2 page spread is frankly kinda bare now, I remember a spread where luffy, kid and law were facing off against big mom and Kaido and it’s just kinda blank in the background. I have absolutely no problems with Oda, he is without a doubt my absolute favorite author/illustrator/mangaka but he shouldn’t need to change how he does things. I never had issues with one piece’s pacing cause he had me gripped in the story the whole time but once you get to wano and you start reading you notice that panels that are so beautiful have started to become harder to follow, also Toei has been stepping up their animation but the fact that they are animating 8 pages and turning it into a 20+ minute long episode has been kneecapping the brilliance that oda has created

Well… that’s unfortunate to hear. I’ll see for myself soon enough. I’ve continually heard that Toei is among the lowest of the low in terms of reputation in the anime industry. As old fashioned as they come. Though MAPPA’s reputation arguably rivals that.

I don’t know why but I’m kind of annoyed that this guy is spoiling himself. This is one of the best manga ever.
