In this video I demo the very popular Electro-Harmonix Soul Food to see if this Klon Centaur Clone can work as a boost in front of a high gain overdriven amp for METAL!

For those that know me I love to demo and review overdrive and boost pedals, so I thought it would be fun to try out the EHX Soul Food in front of my EVH 5150 III Stealth 50w head since the soul food, and Klon Clones in general, are not typically used as boost pedals for high gain metal.
And yes, I know the EVH 5150 III Stealth is an amazing amp and sounds good no matter what, but the results of this demo were surprising to me. I ended up liking the EHX Soul Food as a boost way more than I expected.

I just picked up one from a friend for only $10usd. I'm mostly using it for blues and for my purposes, I really like it. For whatever reason, the neck humbucker on my Ibanez AX120 loves it and that's now my most often used setting.

Its better to have the Holy Spirit rather than EVH spirit. Only ONE gets you to Heaven and it isn't the EVH.
I’ve always loved klon style pedals to boost amps, I find that they just add girth to your tone while still keeping everything tight. May need to try the soul food out to see how it compares to the tumnus/archer I’ve used in the past to boost my evh 5150
Love my soul food, I use mine to stack with a TS

Do you put it b4 or after the ts?
I'd have added more treble on the pedal to really crisp and tighten it all up.
An other good centaur clone, is the NU-X Horseman for boost your AMP for metal
That guitar would look perfect with double-cream buckers

I almost did that actually. I have another video on my channel where I demo a pickup swap in this guitar. I changed them to brushed nickel covered bare knuckle silos. They look pretty good.
Try it before a Sansamp GT2 in california mode.. thats my metal tone

@@ScottBynoe i just use a different klone, the klone by tone. I also have a soul food and they sound very different... the klone by tone uses germanium transistor like a real klon. Soul food is more of its own thing
I tried mine into a Single Rec a couple years ago. Fuzzy and flubby, kinda like a Big Muff with low battery. Not for me.
If you want that tone...buy a clone. TM SBG 2021
