    "Didn't use a Y-Wing because nobody knows what a Y-Wing is" False, but also, nobody knew what these new bombers were either, and their first impression of said new bombers very quickly became, "What a piece of shit."

    saying that, he literally showed freshly released footage of Y-wings deployed against a Star Destroyer. a guy who didn't know what "a Y-wing" is would ask "hey, where'd those big fighters from that last year movie go, they were ideal to fight these things"

    My thoughts exactly! The logic is: “It’s okay because not everyone knows what a Y wing is, so it only makes sense to invent some new bomber that NOBODY knows about and that solved the problem”

    I can't remember which one, but I recall seeing his brief appearance on one of the EFAP Movies, 11-ish months ago ( perhap nearly a year ago). It was in the beginning few minutes. He sounded ok. Rags was making jokes, and Wolf was like "What?!", then Wolf left, and Jay joined, and the movie reaction started. I think Editor (or Mauler) kept it in, so to give subtle hint that, Wolf may be doing alright now. Hope thats the case. Best wishes for him. Really wish he joins for the 200th.

    My prayers go out to Wolf. I really hope he is doing well. I loved hearing Wolf's opinions, arguments, and rages. As for the Y-Wing. Why would a small rebel group with few pilots use a craft that requires 3 people? The Y-Wings the rebellion used were modified to remove the gunner because they didn't have many pilots. Also, these bombers are more expensive than a Y-wing. totally something underdogs should have. And finally, the armor and shields of the bombers makes no sense. They should have heavy shields and armor. An example of a better realize bomber is the strategic bomber from Planetary Annihilation. They are the slowest aircraft, drop a powerful bomb, and have the second most help of all aircrafts in the game (the only one beating it is basically a giant airship).

He got heated so quickly and dropped "retarded faggot" right off the bat. Odds are Wolf, who is probably doing much better after having left the internet, would not behave like this again if he came back. And I think it's better for him.

    It's that TLJ was built around visuals, from visual to visual. He went back to WW2 imagery. Instead of just the fighter footage, they went with the bombers (have to be slow to recreate in the time frame needed), and battleships (need gravity to arc the shots similarly). They ignored the reasons not to use those tropes, and did them anyway.

    but Lucas did too, the chat between squadrons attacking the first Death Star were directly pulled from WW2 records of "Lightning" pilots' logs, I think. And as a first movie in a franchise he could potentially establish b-17 analogs. Yet he didn't, to keep it sci-fi enough. And here comes THIS guy...

    Okay but like. Why would it matter if no one DID know what a Y-Wing was. To those people it would just be a new ship, you lose nothing but the reference value by using them anyways, and most Star Wars fans ARE aware of y-wings anyways. Fuck dude *I* know Y Wings exist and I'm not a Star Wars fan. And otherwise, the utter destruction of the fleet and Leia's subsequent shitting on Poe is based partly in the fact that the bombers were all destroyed due to their shitty design, and while they could've just bullshitted the scene to be that way anyhow WITH Y-Wings, it makes the scene just that more egregious while watching. I mean fuck dude you could've invented a new ship, it just didn't have to be the stupidest thing ever

    This is such a non-argument. Most people don't know why the sky is blue either. That doesn't mean you can't point out that the sky would be different colors at the edge of the world in a debate against a flat-earther. This would happen because the Ozone layer would be thicker at the edges allowing lower frequencies through meaning it would continuously look like morning or evening at the edges of the world.

    To put more salt in the wound of the StarFortress being a shitty bomber, the IRL Bomber they are based on: The B-17, was also used to attack Naval Vessels out in the open ocean. Reality proved to not conform to the people that believed the Bomber made Naval combat obsolete as the entire time they were used in this role early in the War, they only have 1 ship to their name. The IJN Mutsuki, and that is partially because the captain didn't order evasive maneuvers because "the bombs never his anyway". Only for said captain to be fished out of the ocean later. The B-17 was great doing any other role, just not attacking fleets due to Anti-air Guns having gotten better since the B-17 was produced.

    The sad thing is even though wolf is 100% right it doesn't matter. Just Write's argument is a deflection. It does not matter if people remember Y-wings. The bombers are a dumb design. They should not have been built. I propose to show that even a cannon ball is better than one of those bombers. The heckin B-52 is still in service with the US Airforce. That means Ryan's bombers make sense, right? Wrong. Today's B-52s are used to: 1. Absolutely bury low tech armed forces 2. Launch cruise missles from very far away-- behind the horizon far away--literally a whole pie slice of a planet far away. 3. Launch nuclear missles (again from very away) when submarines and missle silos fail 4. Very rarely (in Vietnam) to carry electronic warfare equipment to defend other bombers 5. Very rarely (in Iraq) to drop guided bombs from so high up older radars literally couldn't see them. Uses 1, 4 and 5 only worked against weaker forces, and burying opposition sounds like something The Empire would do. The Resistance could have tried uses 2 and 3. Cruise missles don't work as well in space, though. Cruise missles rely on two tactics to work: 1. Flying low over a planet's surface so that they are obscured from tracking until the last possible moment 2. Flying up to the edge of space to come straight down on top of their targets, again flying out of tracking range for as long as possible, and then coming down at speeds too fast to be tracked-- ... Also with multiple warheads just in case one is stopped ... Also using nukes which don't need to hit their targets directly to begin with. Neither of those tactics work in space. A half decent telescope will show you a cruise missle has launched long before the missle itself reaches you. If you shot a cannon the cannon ball stands a good chance of hitting the bomber before it's missle hits you. A mass driven slug or a laser beam? Missle bomber's fucked in those cases. Hmm, are there lasers in Star Wars? Here's a real world example: It takes a few days flying at many thousands of kph to get to the moon from Earth. It takes light a few of minutes. And with light you don't see it until it's already hit you. That's what seeing IS. In space a slow moving bomber would be dead minutes before it even decided to shoot it's missle. And this is the absolute best case scenario. Ryan chose... differently. I'm annoyed. Why does our fantasy have to be brainless? I liked Star Wars when I was 6 because I thought it was realistic. I also thought I saw mummies in the corner of my closet and that the Pilgrims and the Native Americans had a nice meal together on Thanksgiving Day where they bonded over funny hats and got along forevermore. If the woke world wants to remove Columbus Day because they are interested in facts I say llet them. But let me remove Star Wars for not understanding light, stars or wars.

    Sorry to get a tad political, but I’m convinced that Just Write fell as far as he did strictly because of politics. Bear with me: Just Write used to value objectivity in movies. But then he watched _Black Panther_ and _The Last Jedi:_ two movies that are objectively flawed, but overtly political and strongly left-wing. Just Write leans hard left himself, and he fell in love with those movies because they sang to his beliefs. Then he went online and saw, to his annoyance, that fans were too busy nitpicking lore and character issues to appreciate “the Message.” In a moment of cognitive dissonance Just Write had to make a choice: either A) accept that the films were bad but that he liked them anyway, or B) abandon his principles and claim they were good just because he liked what they had to say. He chose B. He chose wrong. Just my personal theory, but it adds up.

    Just Write has a completely backwords and objectively inaccurate understanding of what objectivity is. Objectivity is Truth of reality, and it exists irregardless of human perception or opinion. There was a time that everyone in the world believed that the Earth was flat and the center of the solar system, but these beliefs were still not true -- obviously wrong -- because that's not accurate to reality. Even if no one in the audience knew what a Y-Wing is, that still doesn't annul the fact that they objectively exist it the Star Wars universe, and Ruin's bombers objectively not did before Ruin's TLJ. Ruin Johnson's TLJ broke Just Write, to the point that he has to mire himself in the willful ignorance of sophistry just to keep from admitting and accepting that Ruin Johnson's TLJ was an awful, wretched, broken, irredeemable, unforgivable vandalization of Star Wars. Just Write is one of those people who you could ask "If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, did it make a sound," and he would say it objectively did not make a noise because he subjectively didn't hear it: peak sophistry, all to defend a movie that hates him.

    There is a reason for those bombers Y-wings are what youd call a light bomber, limited payload but move fast The ones in last jedi are what you call a Heavy bomber- very large payload, but move slowly Its the difference between strapping torpedos to the bottom of zeroes to attack pearl harbor instead of flying bombers vs the us using a b-52 to hit ground targets Also its to reflect how the resistance doesnt have access to that sort of stuff The xwings they use may be newer than the ones from the OT but they designed them with the idea of them being slightly older models that were sold off after the new republic got the new ones. The ones in the OT iirc are 60s, the resistance uses 65s, but the new republic apparently uses 70s. Yes, y-wings exist. But that does not mean the resistance has them Its like asking why the french resistance didnt fly their b52s to attack bridges during the nazi occupation because the americans had them at the time. Ya, this government body that only somewhat tangentially actually supports this resistance movement has these things, does not mean they are going to give them away. A lot of what they use is scrapped together- heck the transport leia uses in TFA was designed to be a B-Wing theyd retroffited into a transport, The resistance is actually supposed to be Waaaay smaller than the rebellion was.

  • @prkr07

    @prkr07

    Жыл бұрын

    An admirable attempt, but JustWrite's explanation was based in the context of movie production rather than in-universe. Regardless, a rebuttal. Your analogy of "why didn't the French fly B-52's if the Americans had them" doesn't quite work because the B-52 Stratofortress didn't come into service until the 50's. I presume you meant the B-17 Flying Fortress? They are the ones that flew missions in WWII (both theaters, though mostly the European Theater). In regards to in-universe logic, Leia was responsible for the creation and funding of the Resistance, which would have made it easy to funnel old Rebel equipment through the contacts she built up during the Galactic Civil War. I very much doubt that one of the workhorses of the Alliance Starfighter Corps would be thrown away, more likely just retired; she probably would have recruited veteran pilots when it came time to start the Resistance, and they almost certainly would have kept track of what happened to their craft. Heck, we should be seeing actual B-wings rather than their cannibalized knockoffs, given that they can punch so far above their weight class that they were deployed against capital ships; why would someone forming an armed Resistance gut that kind of firepower to make transports or skimmers? If we want to discount that, the Y-wing is a multirole fighter/bomber, capable of dogfighting if not necessarily excelling in it, which the StarFortress bombers are clearly easy pickings for, so you'd think they'd have at least a handful of Y-wings if (as the movie implies) we are following the entirety of the Resistance in their escape. If the Rebellion had enough faith in the Y-wings to deploy them against the Death Star as their primary plan of attack (for which Red Squadron, the X-wings, were just supposed to provide cover until they became the last option), and the second Death Star in a multirole capacity, surely Leia would be well aware of their combat value. If we discount that, the StarFortress logically must be far more costly to create and resupply, given their 1048 (?!) proton bombs compared to the 8 proton torpedoes (can't find official numbers for carrying a proton bomb payload, presuming it is between 8-12); thus the poorer-funded Resistance should absolutely be stocking up on Y-wings given their used price of 65K credits or less. If we discount THAT, the battle is taking place in SPACE. The capital ship is the target, not a base or otherwise stationary objective. While not actually being 1:1 for a naval battle, it fits way better than planes performing a bombing run on an enemy facility. Having a bomber that can survive the fighter screen on the way to the bombing run would be far more important than carrying thousands of proton bombs in a craft too slow to reach their objective. Using a B-17 equivalent (as I assume you mean), which is to say a heavy bomber, would need a thick support screen of interceptors (A-wings) and X-wings just to reach its target, which would weaken such defenses for the capital ships (though apparently they're vulnerable to a single fighter's torpedoes, so...). A light bomber squadron, by contrast, could protect itself on the way to the target, freeing up the rest of the starfighters to keep the capital ships safe. Not to mention, the target capital ship could, conceivably, just jump to hyperspace to escape the heavy bombers if they see them get close. Faster, lighter bombers would have a far greater chance of striking before the enemy can deal with them (which, incidentally, is quite the useful tactic in any war). And finally, if we discount *all* of the above, the original argument was "Rian HAD to use new bombers because most people don't know what a Y-wing is". Now, this argument is incorrect for several reasons, but the core of the matter is that Rian WANTED to use bombers that were inspired by WWII-era bombers such as the B-17 (hence its in-universe designation of "B/SF-17). This in itself is not bad, as it shows passion for his craft, but the problem was that he didn't care that he wanted this while making a movie in an established universe, contrary to pre-existing in-universe weaponry. "But that's how I want it", in summary. He wanted the bombers to be large, slow, and shredded by enemy fire, regardless of the fact that the Resistance should absolutely be using the cheaper, quicker, and much more effective Y-wing, because that was his vision. JustWrite's sophistry does not change this.
