I've studied some Poli.Sci. and there is a notable trend in polling. I'm forgetting what the exact term is, but there is pretty regular answer bias where people will trend towards middle options on topics they feel insecure about or dont care about. Seeing the 5 response breakdown I divided the total for "kind of liked it" response in half and gave half to "liked the ending a lot" and the other half to "no opinion". The "liked it a lot" ended up being 45%, not the 60+%. Opinion polling is notoriously inconsistent as seen by changing the question from "did you like it?" To "were you satisfied by it?" the response dropped to high forties as opposed to mid sixties.

Hello! Psychology graduate here! Basically this is a form of social desirability, or investigator effect. Basically participants wants to be liked by the researcher or want to help them confirm the hypothesis they're studying. From that they will either try to figure out what the study is researching and that will affect their results, or they will try to not show a strong opinion either way (hence picking the middle options). This effect is so prevalent in research that now it is recommended if you're using Likert scales you should have an even number of options so they cant pick a middle road. Of course the limitation there is that they must display an opinion even when they may truly not have one.

@@jwc-lw3sp I wouldn’t say Tyrion’s character is ‘assassinated’ by this episode, but it is certainly the jump-the-shark moment for his narrative and lots of people see it as the catalyst for the show's decline. Whilst the scene itself is good (and very well acted), the showrunners decided to remove a major plot twist that occurs in the book, one that the show had also been building up to. Earlier in the show, Tyrion talks about his first wife/love Tysha and how it turned out that the entire thing was set up by Jamie as a way for Tyrion to lose his virginity. It was revealed to him that Tysha was just a hired prostitute taking advantage of Tyrion’s naivety and that she didn't actually love him. The wedding was then annulled and Tyrion is left with great insecurity surrounding love and lots of resentment. Tyrion mentions his ‘wife’ a few more times in the show, where it is made clear that he is very bitter about the ordeal and how Tywin handled it. In the books, when Jamie frees Tyrion, he confesses that he was ordered by Tywin to lie about Tysha being a whore as a way to break up the marriage (Tywin didn't want Tyrion marrying a lowborn girl) and thus Tysha’s love for Tyrion was genuine. This is why Tyrion risks going to the Tower of the Hand to confront Tywin, as he wants to know what happened to Tysha. Him killing Tywin also makes more sense here as it is in response to him saying Tysha is “wherever whores go” rather than referring to Shae (someone who was playing Tyrion) as a “whore”. This change is significant as it removes the overarching narrative goal that Tyrion has in the books: to find Tysha. It is very noticeable that past season 4, Tyrion just bumbles around with no real goal, acting more like a secondary character rather than one of the main protagonists. Whilst he also goes to Essos in the books, he still has his own personal drive which makes for a more compelling narrative as he has an end goal. To be honest, I have no idea why they removed this plot twist. They gained nothing from it and the audience would have liked it.

Mundane Matt did some great commentary on Ghostbusters 2016, what happened to him. Why are we laughing at him?

EFAP is good at critically reviewing TV but here they are statistically illiterate. 2200 is a perfectly adequate sample size. As for the question only actually being answered by 300 people, yes that makes it weak, but not worthless, the margin of error on a poll with 300 respondents will be quite high but not make it worthless. And then they criticize it for controlling for age and gender? They don't realize how their straw poll is completely statistically invalid, there's more to polling than getting a big sample size? Do they have no idea how this works? It's really not hard to believe that there are more casual viewers who were OK with the season versus invested fans who hated it and made the majority of online commentary.
