    But wait, sky is blue (after dawn til before sunset) because the majority wavelength of photons passing through the Earth's atmosphere that our eyes receive corresponds to the wavelength of the color blue. So, it is technically accurate that the sky is blue, and colors do have a meaning, physically speaking.

  • @thaynedye1292

    @thaynedye1292

    5 жыл бұрын

    Eh...Technically it's because blue light scatters more in the atmosphere. The rest of the light tends to pass through it and strike objects on the surface, where they get absorbed and re-emitted as a new color. It's not that blue light is "the majority wavelength of photons passing through the Earth's atmosphere", just the majority that gets bounced around in the sky.

  • @IGSA101

    @IGSA101

    @@thaynedye1292 And also because we lack the cones in our irises to visually see ultraviolet light. Bees for instance can see those wavelengths so the sky would look much different to one of them. So the sky isn't blue, we just can't see anything except for the blue.

  • @nicolasbanks7871
    @nicolasbanks78713 жыл бұрын

    The "sky isn't blue" argument is flawed. Colour is a measurable physical property - measure the most common wavelength of visible light coming from the atmosphere and if you can call it a certain colour.

    Water is wet. Dry water would be a single molecule of water, because it's not surrounded by water (which fits the definition). Water, therefore, is in a constant state of being wet by other water molecules. Water doesn't make other liquids wet, because they're already liquids. Therefore, they're already wet. You can't make wet things more wet, they're just wet.

    @@zohzie The concept of being wet means that the thing in question is covered in liquid (usually water). Water being H2O. H2O being covered in H2O would mean that it's wet. Therefore, water itself is wet. Refusing that would mean refusing what it means to make something wet.

    I disagree with the person saying the sky isn't actually blue. The sky is blue because blue light has a shorter wavelength than other colors in the spectrum and get scattered through the atmosphere by tiny molecules in the air, which is why the sky appears blue most of the time. The colors "exist" as wavelengths of light. This is why we see rainbows when light is refracted through water or a glass prism. All wavelengths together create white light but get separated apart when refracted. White is the combination of all wavelengths of light in physics, and black is the total absence of light. Quite the opposite of what they teach in art school, where black is the combination of all pigmentations (colors), and white is considered the absence of color, as in a blank white canvass.

  • @phoenixsplash135

    @phoenixsplash135

    4 жыл бұрын

    From memory in art that works because pigment is different to light (RGB vs CMYK I think?). It's all super subjective because it depends on how the viewer is looking at the 'sky'. If its from Earth, at certain times it will be blue/red/purple/orange etc. From space it's not visible, because you aren't at the angle to see the refraction. Technically, the gases that make up the atmosphere are colourless, so the sky is colourless.

    So can you splash another liquid with water and make it wet? And what about glue? Is it sticky? Or does it make things sticky? And fucking hell, if Ice is melting, is it wet? If the answer is yea then you’re just saying that water in a solid state IS WET. But that’s only because when water solidified it became the object, and nothing can be wet or dry without an object to begin with... unless we’re talking dry air or something... And is ice slippery? Or is it that when you touch it it melts just enough to make the water it produces the thing that makes it slip?
