I think particularly if you want great photos and all you have is these two lens I would go for the 10-22mm it just seem that bit more sharper and it has better manual focus and uses standard 77mm filters, place you have that extra zoom in there. I do Think though if you use your DSLR for VIDEO and not very many photos then the 10-18mm is a no brainer its the best ASP-C (crop sensor) wide angle lens you can get if you want smooth stable video with out doing any thing fancy to your camera like buying a gimbal or stabilizer of some kind it also has a silent auto focus which is prefect for audio on video being clean no mater what mic you use, it usually will pick up the sound of the lens motor on the 10-22mm even if it is slight it can be still annoying, 10-18mm doesn't have that problem so my recommendation if you going to do VIDEO get the 10-18mm if you want to do photos too and your on a budget the 10-18mm is fine but if you can go the better quality 10-22mm for photos.

I think the 10-18 has a significant edge as far as colours and clarity are concerned. It also has less distortion. So to me the 10-18 just seems to be a better lens.

Thanks! The 10-22 is my main UWA lens as well, however I have been rather disappointed by the sharpness of it. Has the 10-22 been delivering relatively soft images to you? (The 10-18 isnt any sharper than the 10-22 either)

ZY Productions yes, soft-ish, but my alternate for wide-angle just got more expensive Canon fisheye 8-15mm < which has a dangerously curved lens front, thus just waiting to scratch it - full frame is in my future; 5d MkIII when the MkIV etc comes out

Yes, i have a 10-22 too... I bought it 2 days ago and i'm very impressed :)) I like this lens... My second favourite lens is a 100mm USM macro and third one is a 70-210 USM. :))) These are my lens for my canon 700D. :)

i have 10-18mm for my canon 760d..and satisfy with it...

l got a used 10-18 for shooting mainly stills with the EOS M50. l chose it over the 10-22 because of smaller size, lower cost, and lS.

The Samyang 8mm is a fisheye, I generally prefer rectilinears on glidecams so I think the Canons would be a better choice, since they are slightly wider than the 14mm Samyang, and you can adjust the focal length of the Canon zooms depending on your needs :)

The 10-18 aperture is the biggest problem in low light indoors/shade scenarios. If you have good light the wide angle view pictures are mind blowing.

Please use a D-esser in the audio...

+Justin Sweeney If you'll be using the video autofocus feature then the10-18's STM should work slightly better. However for manual focus, I would prefer the 10-22's mechanical manual focus.

Thank you for the great video. I am looking to buy a new gear next month and I've been very confused about what to buy. My old setup was a Canon Xti with Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye that I use for skydiving. I am going to buy the Canon EOS Rebel T6i and for lens I am between: Tokina 10-17mm F/3.5-4.5 DX Autofocus Fisheye, Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or the Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM, but this would be my last option since the price is double of the other, also double of the weight and is only f/4. What would be the best option? Should I just keep the Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye? Which I don't see much wider when using with my xti. Thank so much. Peace

+BrazilianShark Picking between a fisheye and a rectilinear ultrawide will give you rather different results. Depends on what look you're after. If you prefer a fisheye, I'd probably say stick with the 15mm, because the 8-15 L is probably a bit too bulky and heavy to skydive with. For a rectilinear ultrawide, I'd probably say the Tokina, as it's better value for money compared to the Canon.

1) Not too much difference, helps abit when trying to keep the frame still, but difference is subtle. 2) Tokina 11-16 F2.8 :)

Im planning buying the 10-22 because of the extra f stop, 3.5 is probably notably better than 4.5 and i can get it cheaper than the 10-18, would you say thats a good reason? i do only video work

Deyomash the stabilizer could be helpful for videomaking. The 10-22 doesn’t have it. And STM is more silent than USM. So for videos I think 10-18 is a better choice.

Paul Brassington It sure does since it is an APS-C sensor camera with a crop factor of 1.6. So you multiply the focal length by 1.6 to get the actual focal length your camera picks up. So 10mmX1.6 = 16mm.

do you recommend the 10-18 ultra wide or just the 24mm wide angle? I use a cheap camera body. (T5 and 1.4 50MM)

Tony Tan I got the 24mm prior to switching to the 10-18mm and there's a huge difference in wide angle views. You can check out my channel to see some difference. the last 2 videos I believe is the 10-18mm and a few before that was the 24mm.

10 to 18mm for video and photography 10 22mm for photography but faster focus I love my 10 22mm it is great couple to 24 105mm

in singapore, bnew of 10 -18mm is 340 lowest price i found . 720 for bnew 10 -22mm Is it worth dishing out twice the price for a bnew 10-22mm ( 2nd hand is around 450 btw) 10-22 seem to be more flexible in performance indoors. since it can go to f3.5, but will the double price be worth it for that f1.0 difference? im caught up between the two. I have a 50mm 1.4 that performs great indoors and i was thinking do i really need a f3.5? or i should settle with f4.5? mainly deciding between the two bec i dont have any wide angle lens yet

Im considering the cost as well. Tokina 11 -16 if im not mistaken abit higher price compare to 10-22mm. Mostly ill be using it for landscape. so i think its safe to say 10-18 will be the best for its price?

The 10-18 appears to be more value for money. The 10-22 is not a cheap lens. Having bought a 10-22 myself, I wished I went for the 11-16 instead.

I have always thought that the 10-22 had an all metal body, not plastic like he says. If the 10-22 is plastic, then it is a very hard, thick plastic. [EDIT] All of the 10-22 images looked brighter, and the fringing can be corrected with one click of the mouse.

I was going to go with the 10-18mm until I found the 10-22mm on market place for $300 lightly used.

...this is a great review. I have both lenses and this is very helpful review especially for those who might be on the fence about one or the other...

It's a little hard hearing you say "chromatic aberration" when I see darkening in the corner, the darkening is vignetting. Chromatic aberration occurs when different frequencies of light are diffracted differently so you get red fringing and blue fringing on the edges where contrast is high, for example, when I tried to photograph a silver gull using a Sigma 85mm lens wide open.

I got the 10 to 18 it's an incredible lens super fast in focusing it doesn't actually feel cheap at all if anything it feels like but that's a good thing in my book you can use it for all social situations that image quality I've got from them is incredible

Are these good for real estate photography?

Absolutely. If you're shooting a Canon crop sensor camera with the EF-S mount, these are definitely your best options for real estate photography (especially interiors). I recommend shooting in the 11 to 14mm range for Best results. Shooting at the widest 10mm tends to cause barrel distortion.

10-22 is superior to 10-18 if you are taking indoor pictures. However, for outdoor, I did not see any difference besides the slight chromatic aberration in 10-22mm. For video I would go with 10-18.

I'm surprised about the CA on the 10-22.
