I've been looking at reviews for the 10-18mm lens and this review is the best because you show how close you can get compared to the others. Thanks!
As always, you're reviews are spot on and so helpful!
Thank you for making this review. I have been making tons of notes have had the hardest darn time figuring out which features are worth giving up on a wide angle lens and which I will be using more. Your straight to the point, non boasting personality also make you enjoyable to watch. So many people start off talking for so long that I have to fast forward to get to the actual info. Thanks again, I will check ya out on Facebook!
Excellent review that helped me so much with making up my mind about which wide angle lens to buy. Every second of the video really well used. And you did it with no cuts :) Thank you.
I really appreciated your video. It's about one mounth i'm thinking to buy one of this three objectives, and today i've bought the canon 10 - 18. I'm waiting from Amazon. And than i saw your video. Happy to see i've done the right choise.
Terrific review,Toby. You answered exactly what I was wondering and wanted to know...
Great video! I’m using the 10-18mm for my real estate videos. Love the ultra wide angle capabilities it offers. Thanks!
Nice breakdown on the lenses, so excited I just bought my 10-18mm lens online about to get it this week. Thank you man. I ant wait to do my vlogs with it.
I own the 10 - 22 for about a year and I think if I had to choose once again, I would still buy the 10 - 22. USM is more trustworthy than STM with my 7D, more light than 10 - 18 and, don't forget, that 22 mm on crop sensor is about 35 on FF - which is wide standard and works pretty good in repo.
I've been really wanting to see a comparison of these thank god you put it up. :)
Thank you for this review! I've been trying to figure what wide lens to get :)
Thanks a lot man, your video has definitely helped me with my decision!!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks Toby!
So informative, and well done. I love your videos. you are appreciated.
This video helped me out greatly several years back when I first started shooting with canon glass. One thing I have since learned is that 10-18 has some seriously crazy lens flares when shooting towards a light fixture such as a chandelier, etc. I shoot real estate so this happens often. I also have the tokina 11-16 and it produces 0 lens flares when shot in the same situation as the 10-18. I just bought the 10-22 to try out now and hoping it is like the tokina with less flares because I really like that 1mm extra width from the canon. Tokina definitely has more chromatic aberrations (easy enough to fix in post). Figured I would add my 2-cents to anyone curious on how these do for real estate.

Is the 10-18 still usable? Or is there a way to mitigate the lense flares?
@ThePhotoForce
4 жыл бұрын
@@luisungredda9029 yes, it is 100% usable. I used the 10-18 professionally for years and it is easy enough to edit out the lens flares. They typically show up around unshaded light sources like chandeliers. I still have one of my shooters using the 10-18 daily for property shoots. I personally use the 10-22 now if on a crop canon and my 15mm Loawa if on my full frame sony. It just saves me a bit of time not editing out the flares but again its not every picture, just when pointed at an open light source. Hope that helps,

@@nishanketbaniya9476 really depends on what kind of work you are planning to do with it. I shoot real estate so a full manual lens works well for me. Loawa does a 15mm full manual (focus and aperture) lens for canon full frame. Reason I like loawa is because they have a zero distortion and f2.0 is great for low light interior video. Look up on B&H Photos website "Venus Laowa 15mm f/2 FE Zero-D Lens for Canon EOS." That is my go-to for real estate. Lens is on the pricy side for full manual for the zero distortion and high quality image saves me a lot of time from post process editing. If you need auto focus, probably go with one of canons 16mm full frame options. They have several like a 16-35, but I am very happy with my laowa. If you need a more budget friendly full frame lens, Rokinon has several. Their 14mm puts out a decent image but you will have distortion that you have to correct in post processing. I have used all of these at one point. Best of luck!

Great review you are a pro! Question: What set up did you use to film this review?
thank for the review. I've bought the 10-18mm because of all the glowing reviews everywhere. I have a 17-40mm but I wanted an even wider lens and this seems to be the best one (for cropped sensors)
Thank you sooo much Toby, I really needed this review as I am looking for a wide angle lens for my Canon 90D and with your help I have come to a consensus on the 10-18mm lens.
I actually bought the 10-18 for real estate photography and had to return it. It consistently made a magenta ghosting effect at windows, chandeliers and any bright spot in the photo. I bought a used 10-22 and was much happier. No ghosting on the old 10-22.
Thank you! this is the best video on youtube displaying the auto focus noise! a lot of other reviewers either skip this issue or don't compare the sounds! I'll be getting the 10-18 for the silence :)

love your channel!!! i watched your reviews and commend the detail you give and how professional you are with your delivery and with your videos. For fast moving objects or persons in your video... which lens do you recommend for my canon 70d, the tokina or canon 10-18? thank you!
Very good review. Had to hit the subscribe. I just got the Sigma 17-50mm but I am missing that wide angle so this review was very helpful. Keep 'em coming.
Greatly appreciate this video. I will be purchasing the Canon 10-18mm after much debate and watching this video. Definitely cleared it up for me, and allowed me the ability to make a sound choice. Great work, you have a new subscriber from here on out! - James, DJMP
Thanks for the review Toby!
I'm an absolute noob with these lenses and this video was great.
It seems I always seek out these comparisons after the fact, but it's nice to see I chose the right lens! I had ordered the 10-18mm on a $299.00(Canadian) boxing day deal, but then was considering a used Tokina at the same price. The Tokina owner is out of town, so I couldn't pull the trigger; glad I didn't. Thanks for a great comparison review of exactly the three lenses I was considering, your effort and expertise are greatly appreciated. 🙏
I've had the Tokina for several years and I don't go anywhere without it. Great lens and love the f2.8 feature of it.

This was an excellent review. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I am in the processes of upgrading my gear and since I shoot real estate, the 10-18 is a top contender now.
thanks for this review! it was super useful for me.
Thanks a lot for the detailed review. I was confused between 10-188mm and 10-22mm since the former has a plastic mount. This review helped me a lot. Going for the 10-18mm.
Best comparison video between 10-18 & 11-16
Thank you for your review. You helped me make a definitive decision on purchasing the 10-18
I was torn between the Canon 10 - 18 and the Tokina 11 - 16 but this video helped me clear my ideas! I was really looking for a review like this with the photo and video comparison (with also the sound, as I was thinking about using the lens also for shooting some videos). Thank you much! @100adventurer - Which lens did you go with? How has it been?
Best review on this lenses I seen so far .thanks .
I love night time photography. The Tokina really is the only choice. Philip Bloom has recommend it at 16mm for a FF camera. Ive tried it on a 5DMII and found it to be crazy wide but usable (smidgen of vinette). However I bought the Canon 10-18mm for daytime shooting, and which now I will try for silky smooth water falls. I like to shoot inside Cathedrals when I travel and found the 10-18mm was very weak in these darker sanctuaries (ISO cranked adds grain, and the shadows were unacceptable). Thanx for your review.
Came across your video today. Love the comparisons. U explained all very well and at an understandable pace. I will buy that 10-18mm lens for my Canon EOS 800D. It will suit my Real Estate well.

Great review. Helped me decide to grab a 10-18. Thanks
I have a 7D with a couple of L lenses, 70-200f2.8L non is, 17-40 f4L,(my general walk around zoom lens), and was looking for a wide angle crop lens for my Canon. I found great information and specs with your video on these 3 lenses that I'm currently considering. I think I might have a winner with the 10-18 Canon. I definitely needed this range to be completely covered. Thanks for this great informative video.
Thank YOu for the review. I was reviewing the Canon 10-18... I didn't know about the other two at all....
Great comparison...just what I needed!
thanx, helped me make up my mind. just bought it. great lense.
I have used the Canon 10-22 for a few years now and it is great! However, I suffer from G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome) and may just have to pick up that 10-18 for video with that STM quietness! Thanks for your reviews with video AND pics.
COOL! Great review, good job.
Hi, I have a question. I know that Rokinon FE14M-C 14mm F2.8 wasn't mentioned in this video, but I just couldn't find any comparisons between it and Canon 10-18mm. In case you tested both, can I ask, which one of them would you recommend for video recording more? They are both at pretty similar price point right now and I am not sure which one to choose. Thank you very much for your time. :)
Thanks for the detailed review. Apart from the problem while shooting night sky with Canon 10-18 which you mentioned in the video, is there any problem with it while shooting landscapes? Also is there any other lens suggestion that you have for wide angle landscape?
Great video. Thanks. I have the 10-18 for my Sony A7ii. Love it.
Super demo. Thank you. I'm probably getting the Tokina.
I'm a little confused on the focus distance indicator being a problem for starry skies. Why can you just focus it all the way as far as it will go for infinity distance? Btw I am not a pro.
great vid man!!
Thanks for the review. I too shoot the Canon 70D. I have to say, I'm going to rent each of these lenses and shoot some field tests. I am going to shoot an indie short this winter, and I need to shoot a lot of wide interior angles. Keep up the good work!
Really appreciate your review. Much Respect!
Which on would you recommend for filming shortfilms and landscape fotography? 10 - 18 because of the IS or the 11 - 16 because of the f 2.8?
Thank you very much for this review
Canon 10-18mm is miles better than other lenses in this comparison. It gives equal sharpness BUT is much better at chromatic aberation than Tokina, much quieter and smoother in video capturing, has IS, and can focus very close. Slower f-stop doesn't mean anything, as it has aforementioned IS, and with it it actually becomes more capable of taking handheld sharper pictures in low light than any other lens here. It is slower maybe 1-2 stops, but it is compensating this with 4 stops capable IS ! Today's DSLR mostly have excellent ISO performances, so that doesn't matter too. And is cheapest lens here..all in all great lens for money.

Can you hear the IS one this lens? I can hear the IS on all of my other lens. I just purchased this 10-18 but I can not tell if the IS is working.
Fantastic video, thanks for making this. I've got a really tough decision as to which lens to get.... I'm going to Iceland soon and want to take photos of the Northern Lights if we are lucky enough to see them whilst there. Having had a look on flickr there are some absolutely amazing shots with the Tokina, and obviously hardly any with the 10-18 due to the aperture difference (such a shame Canon couldn't make this lens 2.8 but then I guess the price would be a lot higher).. our trip is for a week, and then when I get home I will be shooting landscape shots between dawn, day and dusk, in England, UK... so I wouldn't neccessarily _need_ the Tokina back home.... What do you think I should do ? I could hire the Tokina for Iceland and buy the Canon when I come back from our trip I guess, but I don't know whether to just buy the Tokina and save having to spend money on hiring a lens just for Iceland.
Thanks for your really useful video, of all the reviews on the 10-18mm lens, I found this to be the most informative. A wide angle lens is something I have been sitting on the fence on for a while, mainly justifying the cost. Helps that the 10-18mm is the same filter size (67mm) as 18-135mm, saving lots on extra filters! Could I just ask, how does the 10-18mm perform on long exposures, I know you said no starry skies, but what about dawn and dusk shots? PS. Sorry but I don't shop from B&H, mostly due to the customs charges that I'd be dealing with. Believe Amazon UK also give commissions? Not sure about DigitalRev or Onestopdigital?
I came from the Tamron 10-24mm which always had distortion on the edges(old model not new), but i worked with what I had then. Just two months ago I got the 77D, what was my first choice for UWA lens? the Canon 10-18mm stm, trust me all the reviews are NOT wrong about this lens its painfully sharp right across the lens. I would have got the Tokina for low light work, but I really don't need 2.8 in a bright sunny part of the World that I live in. Toby is right, unless your doing star trails and night time landscape the Canon will trounce the Tokina every time. Thanks for a great comparison Toby, love your reviews, always balance and sensible conclusions built on hard facts and your experience.
Thanks for this informative comparison. Quick question, would you still recommend the Canon 10-18mm over the new Tokina 11-20 Atx-i?
Love the video! Quick question.. I'm getting into wide angle photography and am interested in this 10-18mm lens as well as the Tokina 11-16mm. I will definitely use either lens for daytime landscape shots and other shots during the day but i'm also trying to get into astrophotography and low light shoots. I know that the 2.8 would probably be better than the 4.5 for these low light situations but wanted to get your opinion on these specific areas. I'm also thinking about adding the 50mm 1.8 or the 40mm 2.8 for these low light options/ astrophotography but wasn't sure if either of these lens would perform well for these tasks. any help is appreciated thanks. also currently shooting on t2i
Hello, after watching your video, I'm still hesitating between the Canon 10-18 VS the Sigma 10-20 F/3.5. Did you try the second one?
thanks for this demo comparison the 10-18 is still an impressive little gem of a lens

Great comparaison :) Thanks a lot :)
What would be a better choice for the BMPC 4K for real estate videos. The Tokina or the Canon 10-18?
Excellent video!!
Question: How is the vignetting when putting on a screw on filter to the 10-18mm? And the other two for that matter? :
Hi, thanks for great review! I am looking for wide angle lens to shoot for mainly night photography. I currently have 30mm f/1.4 sigma. which does great photos in the dark but obviously it doesnt zoom and many times its frustrating because things like buildings and night sky don't fit. so I am leaning toward tokina 11-16. it seems to me for the price it is the best choice. what do you think?
I have the Canon 10-18, and the Tokina 11-16. Tokina for low light stuff and in doors, as I don't find the Canon isn't much use after dark. Having said that, the Tokina flares terribly in night street photography, the Canon is better if the scene is a non moving one. The Canon is brilliant in the daytime, and is ultra quiet and ultra light if you need to carry it around all day, like I do. However, the Tokina is also brilliant in the day, and produces lovely starpoints/starburst when you stop it down. The main drawback is the Tokina weighs a ton in comparison to the Canon, and doesn't focus nowhere as close to the subject if you need that. For video, use the Canon; for photography use the Tokina. If you use the Canon for photography, make sure you have light or a flash.

Most of what I shoot is video indoors in basement so I require the STM and larger aperture. I have video lighting but not sufficient for even my 18-55 at F3.5 without pushing the ISO. It's too bad Canon doesn't have an F2.8 at higher price point. It will cost me a couple hundred just to get sufficient lighting for F4.5. I'd rather that money go into a more robust lens.

Nice review, I would have loved to see sample interior images with the same aperture at 11 mm ( as Tokina doesn't have 10) mainly to see the difference in chromatic aberrations and sharpness.
Thank you for this video. Made my decision clear to get the canon 10-18.
