We have been using this saw commercially for over a year and no failures at all its passed our test.

This saw is still available, and the only thing that's really changed is that the handle is now plastic. A real shame.

Best 40cc saw made, if you open up the muffler it will cut close to twice as fast.

Thank you. After hours and hours of research and watching KZread video reviews about chainsaws, I think I appreciated your manner of video review better than any others I have seen. Furthermore, I think I have also now decided to buy the Echo CS-400-18. I had come close to choosing the Ryobi RY3818 (from Home Depot $199), but your review has impressed me enough to consider spending $299 to get this Echo. I also like that Echo is made in Japan rather than China! Thank you. God bless you. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.

I went through a dealer . Same price as it sells for at Home Depot $299 . But I can take to him for the length of 5 year warranty. Compared to the Blackmaxx chainsaw I was using before I purchased the Echo to replace it the Echo is a beast .

Correction: it's a professional-grade saw although I bought it for homeowner use it plainly states that on the box. 🙂

Thanks for that review Chris. Do you still have the saw today and if so how has it held up? I see a used one with low hours on it for $150 over here.

I still have it. My saw collection has grown, so it hasn't really seen heavy use, but I haven't had to do any work to it yet besides a muffler mod and adjusting the carburetor. It's still one of my go-to saws. I would definitely buy another, but I think the newer ones now have a plastic handle bar.

Chris Hester what did you do to it muffler wise? Cut it open and hollow it out? Or is there an aftermarket one? I’ve heard the mufflers slow them down a bit.

Check FaceBook Marketplace. At least here in NY there is usually 1 or 2 for sale brand new in box, asking price usually around $250, I offered $200 and got mine. They must be falling off trucks, who knows, I didn't ask.

Very nice and informative video sir. I am considering either the CS 370 or The CS 400 16” bar. Which would you recommend?

My choice would be the 400, but either would be a good saw. The 400 would just have a little more power.

They have plastic handles at HD. But still a nice saw.

Carb adjust screws are reg flat blade after you pop the plastic caps off chainsaw mechanic

Echo says homeowner but everything they make is quality. I’ve used echo trimmers for years run them into the ground and still run fine with maintaining regular maintenance. Echo guy here

I think so too. Kind of hard to get it dialed in just right with the rev-limiting coil, makes it sound like its 4 stroking when its not

This is a reliable saw, but proper maintenance and keeping fresh fuel with a stabilizer for storage will extend the life and ensure reliability with just about any small engine.

I paid $299 at home depot but sometimes you can catch them on sale cheaper.

ECHO considers this a 'Professional' grade saw. . even though you refer to it as a 'homeowner' grade saw.

I haven't heard that, but i's probably just a marketing gimmick. I do believe that this is as close as you can get to pro grade in a homeowner saw. The basic definition nowadays is that "homeowner" saws and "farm and ranch" saws have a "clamshell" design where the motor is all one unit that bolts into a plastic chassis, whereas professional saws will have a split crankcase made out of aluminum or magnesium that actually makes up most of the body of the saw.

Definitely not a pro grade saw. Echo's are a lower quality build at affordable prices at box stores. I got one for xmas a couple of years ago and it still sits on the shelf. I'll probably just give it away. I have started it twice though...LOL

Have echo, husqvarna, stihl, and an old mac 10/10 echo is my favorite (and smallest) never gave me problems. Husqvarna cuts faster but ots almost twice the size.... Haven't touched the stihl or the mac for a while...

@@bobdodge3171 I was considering buying a pro mac 10-10s on ebay. Powerful saws for their size, but the lack of quality AV on them turned me away from buying one. I have problems with my arms and hands going numb. I'll stick with Echo and Husqvarna. The ones I own all have steel spring AV that work excellent.
