If you have to confirm your details before you bid, how will sniping work? Most items sell with snipe bids on the auctions that I am on, with usually 60% to 95% of the overall bid price happening in the last 4 seconds. If snipe bids aren't allowed it leaves out a lot of money for the sellers, or if the larger bids happen early, it allows for shill bidders to run up the price to find the high bidder's max bid. Both scenarios are bad, so I hope that there is a way to place a bid where you don't need to accept the credit card and address, and it can just go with the default payment method and address in your profile. With the make an offer function I need to accept the details each time before the offer is officially sent.

Also, combined shipping will be a nightmare. More cost for buyers. Can't use two credit/debit cards for one item through PayPal is another. The influencers supporting this have no idea and don't care at all about the negatives, otherwise they would support better ways to combat non-payers and shilling instead of blind support for this garbage.

I have always been fine with that because I never really bid/offer on anything I don't plan to have. Lol, I will have to stop buying on eBay soon anyway. I just got notified they will no longer accept American Express after August 17th. I have 2 American Express cards I used for sports cards and the other cards I have are used for other things (Amazon, Apple, etc..). So with the eBay first removing PayPal and now Amex, it doesn't leave me with a lot of options I am comfortable with. I mean yeah I could put my debit card on there, but I don't like to do that because of security and if I have to dispute things. So when that happens I'll have to stop buying, until I personally decide on another way.

Hi Justin, We always hear about buyers not paying and now this ebay`s latest move. As a collector and not a seller I can`t complain about that. Wish you would look/comment on the other side : when sellers take way too long to send cards and about 8 months ago I bought a raw Eric Davis Rc for 5$ about 3 weeks later an envelope showed up in the mail from the seller COMPLETELY EMPTY zilch nothing inside. Contacted seller said all I got was an empty envelope no card, he said I got the card and I said the envelope was empty. I turned it into ebay and they said tracking show it was delivered and I said yes but nothing in the envelope and the case is closed. Im out 5$ and way too much head ache. It`s still the wild west on ebay. Glad it wasn`t a 500$ card. So the buyers got theyre beef too but it`s crickets on that side. Have a Good one!

This will positively affect cards 1K-10k, first few of new releases sell (say red autos of mid-high end stuff) for 5k and 6k, and people want to shill it to the initial price they paid on release month… when in fact prices should settle 25-50 percent lower… stay there for years and then see if the “set” built a narrative on its own to grow from… so I expect to see cards drop 25-50% in that range by mid 2025 - IF EBAY FOLLOWS THROUGH… we could use this, and if you believe your card is valuable - then believe in it and hold on to it

I think you are right. We will get use to it. It’s nice to see them at least try to deal with the schilling.

This move might be a great thing. If you have a really strict credit monitoring policy on your credit card, you may not be able to make a purchase on the default credit card on eBay, even if you can afford it. With American Express taken off as an option come August 17, 2024, give or take, this could be interesting.

All for cutting down on shilling and non payers. Just wish there was a way for them to incorporate batched shipping, especially when buying from overseas..

Why bid if you dont intend on paying? Great news for the hobby in my opinion.

Maybe than can quit putting sold items that aren't paid in the sold section and also if something is OBO and it sells show both list price and final sale price these sould be the standard

I love it but they need to allow every form of payment on it. Example I use the pay in 4 all the time for bigger purchases. I always pay it off fast as possible so no interest hits me. But I get paid once a month from all my customers. So it’s a huge advantage for me to use it and honestly it helps prices from continuing to fall.

Finally! Good news.....shill biding on eBay was out of control.

It’s unlikely this auto-pay will really mean anything. Many folks await sales to pay for a card. Because you still could have your credit card declined because bid went too high - and you have to change payment. This is different than buy it now. Buy it now is buying a product directly.

I’ll go a step further. For my sales - I’d gladly turn off auto pay if it means more customers. My non- payments are literally 1%. But i work with buyers to pay on time if needed. And it has driven my collectibles higher because of that flexibility and service I provide.

1) Sellers CAN opt out of auto pay. If they do, the listing will not list “Auto-Pay”. You will be able to sort by auto-pay vs traditional. 2) to get around auto-pay, if you “deleted” your payment method after you start bidding - then re-add it back, if you win - it won’t do auto-pay since the new payment entry has a different payment ID.

Rick Moranis was the only good thing in Spaceballs, which is arguably the most over-rated Mel Brooks. For the life of me I don't understand why Gen Xers geek out on it.

Ebay still a great place to buy and sell ... buyer and seller are all ways protected

This will certainly 'stop card sales' because no one will want to sell by auction anymore when people stop bidding because there's no payment flexibility. Anyone who bids heavily understands this. The ones supporting this are small time bidders who don't understand that auctions are an ecosystem, not another way to 'buy and pay for cards immediately'. This is a "cut off your nose to spite your face" measure. Way better ways to fight shill bidding and non-payers than this short sighted nonsense.

Hurts liquidity in the industry. I’ve never had a card not paid for. Some take a few days, and others get paid instantly. I know it’s happened to some, but bad execution from eBay

This is not good. Shill bidding and scamming is simply a tool that helps sellers make more money on eBay. This will actually hurt the card market
