It always puzzles me why people from far away countries often feel uncomfortable when asked their origin. It’s an obvious conversation starter. Would you rather talk about the weather or some random, mindless banter? Unless you feel bad about your origin, own it. Of course, some ask because they don’t like your presence, but don’t assume that’s the reason - otherwise you’re as narrow-minded as you imagine they are.

It’s okay to talk about it but his point is in the timing of that question. People ask upfront which builds like a wall right away, a divide between them and you. Ask them later after you get to know them a bit more. Most likely they will tell you themselves. Etiquette.

Because it's usually only a question people of colour get, when in fact you really can't tell where someone comes from from what they look like. White people get asked that far less. Often people of colour, their Britishness is not believed or is questioned, things like that, it can definitely have racist undertones or overtones and can be a loaded question for that reason, it's context

@@mariannehavisham8323 How do you know what “white” people get asked? Every single time I travelled in countries far from my own, I was asked the exact same thing. I know it was not always a friendly question but it was still a fair question, a conversation starter. I mean, if you want to know something, ask. If you want to start a conversation, ask a question. Not everything you don’t understand is an attack. Meet other people with the same open mind you would like them to have, and life is much easier.

I am a Christian and I believe in live and let live. If Jesus we're alive today I'm certain he would have a homosexual as a close friend. He took up with the underprivileged and minorities for a reason. He did not surround himself by a bunch of uppity snobs that judge others. Your sexuality does not define you unless you let it. All people should be treated as equals and what goes on in someone's bedroom is nobody's business. PERIOD! As a straight christian it infuriates me when other Christians tell gay people they are going to HELL. My question for those people are what makes you worthy or more worthy to enter heaven than anyone else? GOD judges and Jesus's message was simple, be kind and love one another. How you treat people is of the upmost importance. Judging people is NOT your right at all. I will never ever believe for one second that gay people are destined for hell. What offense have they to answer for, for loving someone? Yes I have many gay friends and the pastor of our church welcomes all because he lives by the words of Jesus. These Zealots are running around condemning people and are spreading hate and making people think they are unloved and unworthy of God and heaven. That is the opposite of true Christianity. I have no right to judge anyone because I am no better than ANY person in the earth. I advise those people to read Jesus's words again and remember the company he kept. He is and was a beautiful loving and un-judging redeemer. Why don't people focus on the pedophiles, child, drug, and sexual traffickers, and the greedy people who are supposed to be running this country that oh so love to divide us. The same people who cause our division and hate, have the pill stop it, but they do not. It's quite simple mind your business and sweep off your on front porches instead of others. #MindYaBusiness

He also said, "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
